We didn’t make to the finals, nevertheless we are proud to present to you this mini-documentary we planned and made earlier this year.
We call this film, ‘Danao,’ the local name for the Agusan Marsh—one of the most diverse wetlands in Mindanao and the home of the largest crocodile that was ever caught in the world. In this film, we tackle about the importance of Danao, its cultural and economical significance to the villagers of indigenous Sitio Panlabuan, and the efforts the Department of Environment and Natural Resources is currently taking.
We would like to thank the blessing of our school, Philippine Science High School — Caraga Region Campus, in the success of the conduct of this film. We are extending are gratitude to Director Ramil Sanchez, Dr. Michelle Barbon, Sir Chardy Fernando and Sir Michael for assisting and aiding us. To DENR Caraga13 Regional Office, especially to the Chief of Protected Area Ma'am Milafe Nohara, thank you for entertaining us when we asked for an interview. Special thanks is also sent To the Protected Area Superintendent of Agusan Del Sur office. To Datu Remy of the Agusan Marsh community, your insights and stories were a real eye-opener, and we will always value the wisdom you have shared to us during our visit to Danao.
The visit to the Agusan Marsh was an unexpected experience. Yes, we have fallen short from achieving our original goals, but the beauty and serenity of the Agusan Marsh is more than any award’s satisfaction. ❤️
