ROAD TO MT. MAYAPAY IN AGUSAN DEL NORTE COMPLETED

Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar announced that locals and tourists are now benefiting from the recently-completed road leading to the famed Mt. Mayapay in Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte.

The now paved 1.36 kilometer 2-lane road from the junction of Buenavista-Bunaguit Road leading to the foot of Mt. Mayapay now provides a safer and faster travel to mountaineers, hikers, and nature lovers who want to view the breathtaking details of Butuan City.

The first phase of the road improvement project involves concreting of 607.5 meters beginning at NRJ Buenavista-Bunaguit Road. After its completion in January 2020, construction works on the remaining 752.5 meters resumed in February and was completed on July 18.

“Significantly also, local residents who mostly belong to the Higaonon and Manobo tribes living in Mt. Mayapay as their ancestral domain, now have a more convenient access to basic government services and commodities giving them an opportunity for economic development and an improved way of life”, Secretary Villar said.

With an allocation of P29.3 million, the road project started on August 2019 under the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program with the Department of Tourism (DOT) to improve access and connectivity to tourism sites.

WAWA PARALLEL BRIGDE SOON TO OPEN

The wait is over as the completion of the 240.80 l.m. 2-lanes Wawa parallel bridge in Wawa, Bayugan, Agusan del Sur is at its end.

“The public will soon enjoy a much convenient, safer and fast travel along this part of the Daang Maharlika Road (Agusan-Davao Section) as schedule of inauguration and opening is placed in August this year”, announced Secretary Mark A. Villar after he received reports of its completion from DPWH RO XIII.

The Php 399.819 million completed parallel bridge with 750 meters of concrete road approaches will provide alternate route to the existing 50-year old Wawa steel bridge that has undergone series of retrofitting of steel components and re-decking due to passage (sometimes forced entry) of heavy loaded trailer trucks (carrying falcata logs), and will accelerate the mobility and efficiency in the delivery of basic services in the region as each bridge will now be accessed in one-way traffic.

Butuan to Bukidnon Road, Mindanao 🇵🇭

Completion of road works is expected July this year for Agusan- Malaybalay Road that will connect Butuan City, CARAGA's major city to Bukidnon bypassing Misamis Oriental, the traditional route. Otherwise known as the East- West Lateral Road project, according to DPWH this project will connect agricultural provinces to equally boost economic development and symbiotically benefit from each province’s main produced agricultural products.

When completed in 2022, Nasipit – Buenavista – Masao Port Coastal Road will address the increasing traffic buildup along Butuan – Cagayan de Oro – Iligan Road (BCIR) and will improve accessibility and mobility of people and goods going in and out of Agusan del Norte through Nasipit Port.. This will also serve as an alternate route to the Surigao-Agusan section of Daang Maharlika.

BREAKING: Based on the SARS-CoV-2 anti-body test
(lateral flow method) administered on PUIs and PUMs,
we are saddened to break the news that we now have
several presumed positive cases in Butuan.
These test results are yet to be validated using the
Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction
method (RT-PCR method) to be administered by DOH.

Butuan has acquired last week 2,000 rapid test kits
for COVID-19 and testing has commenced
yesterday after days of training and preparation .

Mayor RCL is strongly appealing to the people of Butuan
to please stay at home and comply with the government’s
guidelines on the Localized Community Quarantine
of the city. We can only slow down the spread of the
virus if we religiously observe the protocols and
guidelines of our community quarantine.

To augment the number of health facilities nationwide, DPWH is prepared to convert 125 evacuation centers to serve as COVID-19 Health Facility. In Butuan, the evacuation center has already been converted into a heath facility specific to COVID-19 patients by the City Government of Butuan and the Butuan City Medical Center.
