"Caboloan" is the ancient name of the Pangasinan province from the pre-colonial times until the Spanish colonial period. It comes from the root word "bolo", a native bamboo species (Gigantochloa levis) that used to grow abundantly in the region. Sine Caboloan is the independent cinema of the Pangasinan province.

ANAK LIGLIWA'Y ATENG is a Pangasinan folk lullaby translated as "A Parent’s Joy" in the Pangasinan language. It is about children being the balm for fatigue and sadness, a common theme found across many lullabies.

Witness a mother’s unconditional love for her daughter in the music video of the song.

The Pangasinan music video was commissioned by the CCP's Himig Himbing II program in 2023. It is a collaboration between Pangasinan and Manila-based filmmakers from groups like Sine Caboloan, Pangasinan Youthcaster, and Project 55 with a cast of homegrown Pangasinan actors. The film was shot on location at Dagupan City with support from the City Government of Dagupan, Office of Congressman Christopher De Venecia, and the Pangasinan Tourism and Cultural Affairs Ofice under the Provincial Government of Pangasinan.

Interpreted by:

Ruth Anne Mendoza (Vocals), Erskine Basilio (Guitar), Jesper Mercado (Keyboard), Meong Pacana (Bass), James Gazmin (Indigenous Flute), Jorge San Jose (Drums)

Credits:

Marianne Senin Aquino, English translation, "Mga Katutubong Awiting Pangasinan: Cancansion na Pangasinan", Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, 2002

"Aripuen" (The Servant), a new feature film I have been writing since 2010 is now officially a finalist in the upcoming 20th edition of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival 2024. Thank you to the 2nd Southeast Asian Film Lab, the 58th U.P. National Writer's Workshop, and the 2023 Cinemalaya Film Lab for the chance to workshop and develop the screenplay. This project is lovingly dedicated to fellow overseas Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia and South Korea and to my immediate family in Pangasinan. With the Almighty Lord's guidance, may this project find the funders and artistic collaborators to bring the film to its' completion. Mabilay!
