๐—ข๐—ก๐—˜ ๐—ฆ๐—ง๐—˜๐—ฃ ๐—–๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—ฆ๐—˜๐—ฅ. Today, August 30, 2024, students applying for graduation from the four departments participated in the College Graduating Students' Assembly at the LCCB Auditorium, bringing them one step closer to their graduation dreams.

The assembly was set into motion by Mr. Joselito M. Diaz, MBA, Head of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) and Supreme Student Government Adviser (SSG), shedding light on the necessary requirements for graduating students including grades completion, retreat scheduling, and the criteria for the Latin honors.

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t define you,โ€ Mr Diaz quoted; this filled the auditorium with a sense of inspiration for students who think they failed to meet the criteria for the Latin honors.

Despite the power interruption during the afternoon session, a fundamental part of the assembly pushed throughโ€”a talk titled "School to Work: Fostering Good Ethics in the Workplace." The session was graced by the presence of honorable Ms. Catherine Obaredes, RPm, CHRA, who served as the guest speaker.

According to her, the qualities that underscore good workplace ethics include punctuality, time management, accountability, professionalism, and dedication, particularly for graduating students transitioning from academic life to professional careers.

Both the morning and afternoon sessions addressed key points for graduating students, enabling them to take another step closer to entering the professional world.

As a member of the generation who speaks upโ€”Generation Zโ€”I am very much exposed to a culture that was always prevalent tracing way beforeโ€”the Marites culture. Often associated with a negative outlook, the term โ€œMaritesโ€ has evolved. It has become a symbol of the widespread culture of gossip and rapidโ€”and I say rapidโ€”dissemination of information, often passed with verification of what is the truth or whatnot.

I would sayโ€”this culture is a double-edged sword. With its many facets, let us focus primarily on the complex pros and cons of โ€œMarites cultureโ€. Think of this like this: Have you ever been a โ€œMaritesโ€? I think we all have been, both consciously and unconsciously. Surprisinglyโ€”it is all not just โ€œconsโ€, even this is how modern society or common consensus plays it outโ€”and in a wayโ€”it is a useful instrument in becoming socially aware of what is happening around us, but thereโ€™s a catch. This only works if we know how to draw the line between healthy discourses and harmful gossip of โ€œchismisโ€. I know, itโ€™s still kind of confusing.

As social beings, we strive for connections, and exchanging stories and information is a natural part of our interactions as humans. Marites culture has long been used to create communities where people feel like they belong because of their shared experiences and tales. When information is shared with the right people, it can raise social consciousness and inspire group action on important topics. For example, knowledge about social issues or local changes helps communities to be proactive and watchful. However, this culture can be used to disseminate false information, incite conflict, and harm people's reputations when it overflows into malevolent gossip.

It is impossible to overstate the importance of Marites culture in the Philippine context. Unchecked information can have a big impact in a society where gossip and news circulate quickly. It begs the question, is having these discussions necessary? Sure, but exercise caution. While it's critical to keep up with current events and have meaningful conversations about issues that impact us, it's also crucial to distinguish between reality and fiction and to refrain from spreading false or dangerous information.

We must learn to distinguish clearly between sharing essential news and spreading unfounded rumors. Marites culture can be beneficial, but it requires a conscious effort to move from being simply purveyors of gossip to becoming responsible information "specialists." This means that we should be more careful with the words we say, especially on social media where our words have a larger audience and more impact. Inquiring about the sources and motivations behind the information we receive and share requires us to be alert information consumers.

Let's embrace Marites culture in a way that encourages social consciousness and fruitful discourse, to sum up. Let's concentrate on problems that have an impact on our daily lives and improve our communities. We can change the Marites culture into one that promotes knowledgeable, involved, and responsible citizens by being aware of the information we share and take in.

โ€œForgiveness is the remission of sins. For it is by this that what has been lost, and was found, is saved from being lost again.โ€ -St. Augustine

Celebrating the Feast of St. Augustine reminds us of his great faithfulness and dedication to the Almighty God. His journey has been a path of turmoil, but along the way, he found his way home, where the truth lies that led to his transfiguration.

Let us take this momentous time to commemorate the ample teachings from him that grant us wisdom and devotion that steered us to experience renewal, too. St. Augustine's history was a testimony that even the last, the least, and the lost can find acceptance and grace through God's ceaseless love.

Rev. Fr. Jepser Bermudez, OSA, led the congregation attended by the staff, faculty, and students from the Integrated School (IS), Senior High School (SHS), and College Department.

In Fr. Bermudezโ€™s homily, he said that we should love God and our neighbor as this is the center of life in our community. It is not about โ€œIโ€ all the time, so we should look after the people around us, living a Christian life, to continue to live in oneness of mind and heart.

In times of uncertainty and constant historical distortion, it is significant to commemorate all Filipino heroesโ€”past and present, known and unknownโ€”who have sacrificed their life with bravery, defiance, and fortitude.

Today, August 26, 2024, we celebrate National Heroes Day, marking the anniversary of the Cry of Pugad Lawinโ€”the pivotal moment that ignited the Philippine Revolution. Let us take a moment to reflect and pay tribute to those who paved the way and fought for the freedom and liberation of our country, the Philippines. May we, as Filipinos, continue to stand against the oppressors and uphold what they have fought for.

This resulted to a long weekend as National Heroes' Day, a regular public holiday, is observed on August 26 (Monday).

The School of Sciences, Liberal Arts, & Teacher Education (SSLATE) trailed as second placer, while the School of Business and Information Technology (SBIT) placed third, followed by the School of Architecture, Fine Arts & Interior Design (SARFAID).

SHTM proved that they are indeed a powerhouse after dominating the early games of Newspaper Caterpilar Race, Dodgeball, and Three Legged Race securing the bag for their overall victory.

On the other hand, the Little Giants and the ARFIEN Republic clinched two wins each: Egg Catch and Flag Tag for SSLATE, and KaraOkay and Longest Line for SARFAID.

Meanwhile, the Lions Lair, despite not winning a single game, managed to rack up multiple runner-ups eventually placing SBIT third in the overall standing.

With the theme "Larong Pinoy", Freshie Day marked the conclusion of Welcome Week 2024, an initiative of the LCCB Supreme Student Government (SSG) to welcome students into the new academic year 2024-2025.

Today, August 9, 2024, we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day (NIPD). In commemoration of NIPD, may we all be reminded that they should be recognized, valued, and respected, for they are an integral part of our country.

Long Live The Philippines' Indigenous Groups!
