NEWS | GS students, faculty celebrate 'Wellness Program, Grad School Day'

After weeks of class suspensions due to consecutive typhoons that hit Cagayan, students of Cagayan State University Aparri Campus Graduate School joined the fun as they celebrated their Wellness Program and Graduate School Day at the administration lobby today, November 24.

Initiated by the Graduate School Student Council, activities include on-the-spot Zumba competition, teachers' day celebration, and team building, as they promote the importance of leisure amid the challenges brought about by their academics and researches.

Though quite delayed, the students did not forget to honor their instructors, including Engr. Audie Quebral, the campus executive officer, Dr. Mark John Tamanu, the school dean, and all the teacher-students, by giving them tokens.

Meanwhile, the zumba competition, prepared only for almost an hour, made the event extra special as the students unleashed their talents in dancing.

The team building activities, on the other hand, showed the unity of the students even though their groups were composed of members from the five programs - Doctor of Philosophy in Education Major in Educational Management, Master of Arts in Education Major in Educational Management, Master of Arts in Education Major in English, Master of Science in Teaching Mathematics, and Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT).

Furthermore, four of the MSIT students are recognized for being qualified as Department of Science in Technology scholars, namely: Princess Diane Brunio, Albert Canlas, Louise Christine Raneses, and Gino Carlo Rabina.

APARRI, Cagayan - As Cagayan State University Aparri Campus Graduate School (GS) geared toward fostering innovation and excellence in research writing and publication on its new curricula, 28 studies from its doctorate and master’s degree programs were presented during the Annual Research Colloquium today, March 10.

Group researchers of Educational Management, Language Education, Mathematics Education, and Doctorate Education programs each propounded four studies, while Information Technology researchers presented 12 studies this term.

GS Dean, Dr. Mark John M, Tamanu, in his address, said the colloquium is necessary to further scrutinize the researches for their publication, which is now a requisite in the new curricula of graduate school programs.

“Wherever graduate school you enroll in, publication of researches is now the trend. The number of academic units in your degree programs are decreased because we want you to focus on your theses and dissertations,” Dean Tamanu said.

Citing the need of educators and scholars to contribute to the demands of the 21st century, Tamanu reiterated the school’s goal to publish more researches in national and international journals, thereby decreasing the minimum academic units of the doctorate program from 48 units to 30 units and the masters program from 33 units to 27 units in their new curricula.

Dr. Quirino G. Pascua, GS Faculty member and keynote speaker, is also supportive to this endeavor as he encouraged the GS students to continue doing research works.

“Innovative teachers are not only educators. They are also researchers,” Pascua said, delineating the role of teacher-researchers as Education 4.0 workers to Education 6.0 leaders.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kevin D. Caratiquit, before ending his presentation during the plenary session of his dissertation on the “Effect of Techno-Efficiency and School Support on the Relationship between Teachers’ ICT Competence and Attitude towards Digital Use in Teaching: Input for a Training”, said researches should not only end in publication, but also in implementation.

He shared the successful implementation of his Project ICT at Lal-lo National High School as an output of his dissertation, which is just one of his researches now published in known scholarly journals.

Also among the presenters during the plenary session before the breakout room presentations were Marivic A. Gorospe, MA, Vanessa M. Lagumay, MA, Abegael Tabaco-Rabara, MS, Iolanie A. Silvestre, MS, Jeric R. Macatuggal, MS, Irish Keith A. Villanueva, MA, and Lemuel O. Ponce, LPT who produced ‘noteworthy’ studies in their respective degrees. #
