Music which is not often represented and falls through the cracks in the music industry but provides strong, colourful threads in New Zealand’s musical tapestry. The programme is hosted by flautist, composer, dancer and facilitator Tamara Smith, the sole presenter since the shows inception five years ago. Falling Through the Cracks is a continuation of Tamara’s love of radio, which began in 1999 as the co-host of the popular PolyJazz hour, sponsored by the Jazz School. Tamara was facilitating concerts as part of the New Music Collective, and the music that was performed by local musicians at these concerts was world class. Falling Through the Cracks provide an opportunity to share the live recordings of the music at these concerts, as well as host interviews and get touring acts into the radio studio to give an intimate account of life experienced as a musician in all its various spectrums and styles. The programme also creates a supportive network where musicians can feel valued and represented. Falling Through the Cracks is a diverse programme that appeals to a broad spectrum of music lovers.
