A couple of years ago I found a solution to the dreaded “where should we go?” every time my friends and I decided to catch up — an extensive list of cafes, bakeries, bars and restaurants on my notes app. Slowly but surely I have been ticking off all the venues recommended by my ‘for you’ page, friends and colleagues. Below you will find my favourite spots I keep coming back to and a couple of good ones I only discovered recently

YOUR AUGUST HOROSCOPE IS HERE 🌸🌸 [PART 2]

The theme for August is Activation. You will feel inspired to take action on something, to bring your dreams to life, and to move towards your goals.

August is certainly not a month to sit around and do nothing. Be warned that things might not happen at the pace you desire. There are a few challenging astrological aspects that can cause delays and discomfort but they are all very purposeful.

There is so much learning and growth ahead of you. You just need to be willing to roll up your sleeves.

Sauce interviews Kate van der Drift as her new solo exhibition opens at Sanderson Contemporary

Van der Drift is an award winning photographer living and working between Whāingaroa Raglan and Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

She has a particular interest in recording and highlighting the relationship between humankind and our natural habitat through ecological studies of the land using analogue film processes.

Known for her large-scale ‘river exposures’ the artist has extended her camera-less photographic explorations in this evocative new series, gently collaborating with nature and utilising site-specific materials.

Read more in the link in bio about van der Drifts exciting new body of work made in the Peat lakes region of the Waikato.

“I want to shift my focus to all the things I never had the time for. I’m sad, but at the same time happy.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After almost 40 years of pioneering the industry, it is with these words that Dries Van Notes announced he would be stepping down as the creative director of his eponymous brand. Not afraid to experiment and chart his own course, Van Noten or the ‘prince of prints’ has pushed the fashion industry to be more innovative. Today we look back on the past 40 years and highlight the most iconic moments.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Spring Summer 2005 Ready-to-Wear show is one of the most memorable. The designer’s grand 50th runway show took the form of a gala dinner with 500 guests. The models walked on a long dining table under 130 crystal chandeliers.

2. The designer’s first womenswear show was in 1994. The budget may have been tight but the set design of mattresses and cushions allowed the guests to get close to the garments, immersing them in the atmosphere.

3. Spring Summer 2015 Ready-to-Wear show was inspired by John Everett Millais’ Ophelia and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, resulting in a magical woodland setting.

4. Florence Pugh wearing a voluminous fuchsia dress at the 2020 BAFTAs.

5. Liya Kebede in a Dries Van Noten coat and dress for Vogue, September 2015. Photographed by David Sims.

6. Beautifully clashing prints backstage at the Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear show.

7. Look 1 from Spring Summer 2023

8. Looks 8 and 55 from Van Noten’s final show in Paris — wearable, yet innovative.

9. Dries Van Noten and his partner Patrick Vangheluwe 🤍

COSY SEASON RECS 💞

There’s a natural inclination, as the colder season approaches, to slow down and pay heed to the murmurings within ourselves. It’s almost as if we delve headfirst into hibernation as if it was court-ordered. I call this part of my week, Soul Sundays, a moment where I refill my cup, trust my inner sanctum and reflect on what makes my mind happy. The mind can be a symbolic cavern that can inspire or manifest magical thinking. In a world where our thoughts are driven by continuous external action and the proliferation of social media, there is also a desire to unearth a little inspiration here and there. If that means you add a splash of whimsy or perhaps entertaining the esoteric as a way to fill your cup, then by all means let this be your signal to lean in. As part of this new ongoing Saucy series, my Soul Sundays Scrolls aims to supplement the brain with a little candy sans the dreaded dopamine comedown.

HOROSCOPE GIFT GUIDE 🎀💕 [PART 2]

Each astrological sign houses recognisable idiosyncrasies which can be experienced by those around them. Think passionate fire, intuitive water, communicative air or detail-oriented earth. Every element possesses specific strengths and more importantly desires. Depending on their ruling planet, or perhaps tangentially their ascendant or moon placements, understanding overall what makes these signs tick is both a fun and revealing task.
