As a reflection of our on-going partnership, we will shine yellow in the iwi colour of Ngāti Whātua ki Tamaki to mark 182 years since the Tuku Whenua – the gifting of the tribal land on which our Tower stands 💛

In 1840, while standing on Maungawhau (Mt Eden), Ngāti Whātua rangatira Apihai Te Kawau outstretched his hands indicating the allocation of 3000 acres of land to Ōpoutūteka (Coxs Bay) and to Taurarua (Parnell) in the East to Governor Lieutenant Hobson.

182 years later, we honour Ngāti Whātua ki Tamaki, tangata whenua of central Tāmaki Makaurau who hold the mana over the tribal land upon which we stand, in recognition of this momentous gift for Aotearoa.
