NNPC Ltd, TotalEnergies Sign MoU on Adoption of Methane Detection Technology
…As TotalEnergies Boss Lauds NNPC Ltd on Reforms

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPC Ltd.) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TotalEnergies for the adoption and deployment of a methane detection technology known as Airborne Ultralight Spectrometer for Environmental Application (AUSEA) in all its upstream operations.

With the agreement, which is a direct benefit from the Company’s participation at the recently concluded United Nations Climate Change Conference (also known as COP28) in Dubai, UAE, NNPC Ltd. will be able to deploy the TotalEnergies AUSEA technology on its upstream operations sites to ascertain the level of methane emissions from them, with a view to working out emission curtailment measures to help in combating global warming and climate change.

The MoU was signed by NNPC Ltd.’s Executive Vice President, Upstream, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, and Managing Director and Country Chair, TotalEnergies EP Nigeria, Matthieu Bouyer, on behalf of their respective companies, under the watch of the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) NNPC Ltd., Mele Kyari, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné.

Speaking on the collaboration at the MoU signing event, the GCEO, NNPC Ltd., Mele Kyari, described TotalEnergies as a great and reliable partner over the years with whom the Company was looking forward to exploring greater opportunities in the nation’s energy sector.

On his part, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné, said his company was offering the technology to NNPC Ltd. in keeping with its commitment to promote responsible production of hydrocarbons.

He applauded NNPC Ltd. for its successful transition into a limited liability company, stressing that he could see and feel the energy that the reforms have brought about, not only in the company but also in the sector.

Putting the deal in proper perspective, the NNPC Ltd.’s Executive Vice President, Upstream, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, said the pilot phase of the TotalEnergies AUSEA deployment would be on NNPC Ltd.’s owned operations, adding that the deal would enable the company to deploy methane abatement measures.

Other benefits of the TotalEnergies AUSEA technology include identification of unaccounted emission sources, establishment of a basis for querying and improving current emission reporting processes, provision of data to review operational system and implement corrective actions, and estimation of flare combustion efficiency.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU: RISK MANAGEMENT VITAL FOR AFRICA’S FULL TRANSITION TO CLEAN ENERGY

Fully aware that Africa contributes the least to global carbon emissions but bears a disproportionate share of economic burden for transitioning to cleaner energy, President Bola Tinubu says risk management is vital for Africa’s full and swift transition to cleaner energy, emphasizing that Africa must not become a victim of the disruptions that come with climate change mitigation measures.

Speaking on a panel on African Green Industrialization hosted by the COP28 Presidency and the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, President Tinubu said Nigeria and Africa urgently require investments in alternative energy to be able to fully and effectively transition.

The President said there is an urgent need to heal the bleeding earth, but there is also an urgent need for new investments in critical sectors to leverage on Africa's massive potential contribution to the new global green economy while enabling the continent to effectively adapt and transition.

"Global manufacturers must partner with us to invest in the health of our collective environment. Africa doubles as an unrivaled opportunity in this respect. We are removing all obstacles that are inhibiting progress as Africa's largest economy. The investment environment is becoming cleaner and better.

"But how will Africa not be a victim of all these changes? How do we get value for our resources. We all agree that the earth is crying for healing, but how do you tell a grandmother to stop using firewood to prepare her food? It is for me to invest in solar energy, alternative energy.

"Here, you must encourage investment, and equally consider: how would this investment affect us? Yes, we have the market and sufficient housing that you can electrify with solar panels. There is iron ore; there is investment there, too. Risk management is very key for Africa. The opportunities must be translated sooneest. We are moving forward with urgency, and we will maximize the value given in return for those resources," the President affirmed.

WHO REALLY WAS AYIBATONYE MARK OBEBA?

A Compendium Of Peoples' perspectives.

BIRTH: Madam Ayibatonye Mark Obeba fondly called Mama-Eteta was born on March 23, 1921 of Chief Abhila Abharashiba by Princess Ashabor Abharashiba (Nee HRH King Igbeke Erekuma), at the ancient city of Opume in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. Her name, Ayibatonye is synonymous with Azibator as it is called in our Ogbia local palace. Her paternal grandfather, Abharashiba, hails from Olali group of Houses of Otu- Ekon compound of Opume and OtuApatamu group of Houses of Otakeme community. Her maternal grandmother, Princess Aduebal or Adeyal Iworiso, the daughter of HRH King Iworiso or Ooto hails from Iworiso Royal family of Olali group of Houses of Otu-Ekon compound of Opume and Ebhasi, Awere family of Aziba group of Houses of Amirisan or Esan compound of Opume. Her paternal grandmother, Obholo, hails from Igbalia, Okokodia family of Isibo group of Houses of Amorokon or Okuer compound of Opume and HRH King Ebereguo Royal family of Ogidi compound of Otu-Ogidi community. Her maternal grandfather, HRH King Igbeke Erekuma hails from Igbeke, Erekuma Royal family of Inema compound of Otuabula II community. All in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State of Nigeria.

EARLY LIFE: Tonye was a beautiful damsel during her prime age. Earlier, she lived with her parent. Her parent gave her good parental care, love, protection, joy, peace and hope for a better future. Unfortunately, she lost her only older brother Late Master Gabriel Abila Abharashiba when he was in standard 6 (six) at St. Michael School Oloibiri in about 1930 due to illness. Again, while she was still tender, enjoying the company of her beloved parent, death struck and cut short of her parents' life at different intervals. As a result of her parents' death, She lived and spent most of her early life with her maternal grandmother, late Princess Aduebal or Adeyal Iworiso. Adeyal Iworiso was a very strong support system, a safety net, and a strict disciplinarian to the core. While she was with her grand mother, she learnt many things, especially culture, good behaviour, Obedience, loyal and respect to elders; the art of cooking, farming, fishing, trading etc. Madam Tonye Mark Obeba though from a Royal blood, was able to successfully navigates the daunting challenges that typically confronted an African orphan through obedience, honestly, dexterity and hardwork. Her life of service to God and humanity, industry, humility, peaceful disposition, moral integrity and generosity are attributes she apparently gleaned from late Princess Adeyal or Aduebal Iworiso's outstanding and indefatigable tutelage.

OCCUPATION: Tonye Mark Obeba was an entrepreneur. Her main occupation was farming, fishing and trading. Her husband, Late Chief Frank Mark Obeba-Erekereso(IV) was one of the greatest farmers in Opume. She accompanied her husband in farming. God in his benevolence blessed their farms with much increase, sufficient enough for the upkeep of the family. She also accompanied her husband with dugout canoe for fishing expedition along the rivers. Mrs Ayibatonye Mac-Frank Obeba always supported her husband by taking bunches of plantain, canoes, palm oil, paddles, raw rafia palm fruits, cocoyam to various towns and markets along the coastal trade route even as far as Nembe, Ewoama Okpoama, Okpoama, Twon- Brass, Abua, Odual etc for trading activites and barter exchange system.

MARITAL LIFE: Tonye got married to a renowned patriarch, a community leader, late Chief Frank Mark Obeba-Erekereso (IV) of Opume community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State of Nigeria. The marriage was blessed with twelve children. Unfortunately, four of her children went to be with the creator at their tender age. They are: Master Newman Mac-Frank, Miss Inemo Mac-Frank, Master Lonamikioma Mac-Frank and Miss Amisini Mac-Frank. She was a virtuous woman who built her home and family on the moral path of righteousness. She was very submissive to her husband. She lived a happy and peaceful life with her husband and children. Mutually, her husband and children loved and took very good care of her.

CHRISTAIN/SOCIAL LIFE: During her early life, Madam Ayibatonye Mark Obeba believed in tradition and culture of her people. She belonged to many cultural and traditional dance clubs in Opume. However, she knew that God Almighty exist, but she did not attend any church denomination. At a point, when she reminisced on her life ordeals, including the painful and untimely demise of her parent, only sibling and four children. She humbly gave her entire life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Initially, she started her Christian journey with prayers and fasting at the Devine Order of Cherubim & Seraphim at Otakeme in the early 70s when there was no functional parish in Opume to worship. Later, she changed her denomination to St. Peter's Anglican Church, Opume Parish where she was later baptized on November 21, 2021 by Rev. Cannon Temple Ugiri. Tonye was a devout Christian. She served God wholeheartedly and a generous soul to the needy.

Tribute to a veteran mother: Late Mrs MarK Ayibatonye will always be remembered and felt by all those that knew her and generations to come.
We knew you have gone to eternity, but the memories of your exceptional parental creativity and innovations will ever remain preserved in our minds.
Though, death had taken you away from us, your legacy will remain conserved for future use, just like silage is preserved for livestock consumption in scarcity of green pasture.

~ Comrade Justice Okoloba
Chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC) Opume

Mrs Ayibatonye Mac-Frank, a.k.a Mama Tonye lived a very peaceful life worthy of emulation. Indeed, it can be better described as a life well spent. A woman endowed with peace, humility and wisdom. A generous woman with a large heart. She accommodated everybody in the family. Very soft spoken with gentle touch, she cared and reared Children, grand children, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Like the biblical instruction, she increased, multiplied and filled the earth. At her ripe old age, mama Tonye had very sharp memories. Each visit I made to her was filled with blessings. Because she cared so much for her children and others, the Lord compensated her with long healthy life. She was not bed ridden, neither was she senile. Her sight was perfect, her speech was audible and coherent. She told me tales of old and reminded me always of our relationship. A very neat and clean mother that I cherished. Her humility endeared her all embracing title of "THE MOST PEACEFUL WOMAN IN OPUME". On the 19th February 2023, when I stopped over to see her, in her usual characteristics, she prayed for me to be blessed with long life as well. That was the last I got from my sweet Aunt. Adieu Great Mama! Rest in perfect peace.
For Mama Tonye's children/and grand children that took great care of her. I pray your children will also bless you same way at your old age. I appreciate you all for a job well done.
~ Hon. Lady Immaculata Love Amaseimogha JP, KSJI- Niece

All is well with her SOUL, REST IN PERFECT PEACE TONYE MARK OBEBA.
Your LOVE flame will hardly be smothered.
My sincere heart condolence to the ENTIRE Macfrank family and OPUME Kingdom, for the return value of her inextinguishable love and participatory stance in the burial commitment.
~ Amb (Chief, Hon) Obi Maclean Wilson -Nephew

Tonye, you have moved beyond us and enter into a new Communion. You were a loving and caring mother. You showed me, my children and my late mother a platonic love. You never abandon my mother even in sickness and stood by her until her last breathe. Mama- Eteta as we popularly called you. Indeed you loved your family very much, especially your close relatives. You usually answer each time we call your name. But now, your name will be called and without any answer or a response. Oh Mama! You lived a life worthy of emulation and a very fulfilled life. "There is good and multitude of rubies but the lips of knowledge are precious jewels" (Proverbs 20:15). I have been thinking about your words and advise to me. Be rest assured that they will forever remain in my consciousness. Those good life style of yours will never be forgotten. I will miss you dearly MAMA-ETETA. I will carry on perfectly well, though my tears will never cease. Your memory will linger in my heart forever. You have left a good legacy that will last for ages. Above all, you are a lively child of God. As you have returned to your father in heaven. Ayibatonye, I cherish you but Jesus cherish you most. May your soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
~ Chief Jacob Akpana Adomba- Nephew

Death is an unfortunate reality a lot of people do not like to confront. It is why we are left battered, beaten and broken when it strikes. However, the Bible in Genesis 15:15 says you will go back to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age. Also in the book of Revelation 14: 13 says "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on, they Rest from their labour for their deeds will follow them. My mother played a major part in my childhood and upbringing. She was a special woman to mankind. You may have passed on but your memories will always live on with us. Thank you for your care, sacrifices and your concern, love and everything that you have done for me.
You were an example of woman described in Proverbs 10: 31. Your children and all those lives you touched will remain proud of you. My dear mother, you held yourself with dignity in all your days. Your unconditional love, care and honour will be missed and remembered. Your good memories will always be in our hearts. My mother, I will forever be grateful and thankful to you for being such a wonderful mother to me. May your gentle soul rest in the Bosom of the Almighty God in Jesus name. Amen.
~ Chief Richard Iniketo Mac-Frank-Abharashiba(Son)

It always seems like we have all the time in the world, only to realize how fleeting it really is. I wish we had more time to do and say the things we saved for later, which, along with you, is gone forever. I promise to keep you alive in my memories. You were more than just a parent; you are my mother! Rest in peace, Mama! Bye bye to eternity.
~ Mrs Onyaniyar Egbo Mac-Frank-Daughter

Mama, you left us on Friday 12th May 2023 to meet your Creator. I cannot query God because you have fulfilled your purpose on earth. You have also spent a remarkable 102 years before your transition. Your love to me and my children was marvellous. Your generosity to me, my children and others is beyond human measure. Mama-Eteta, you love your children, relatives and others without any form of discrimination. Who will tell me those tales that are full of moral lessons again?. Of course, none from a mother. You have demonstrated to the world that you were indeed a practicing christian. You hate quarrel, fighting, immoral behavior, killing, stealing, and other vices contrary to the will of God. Your legacy will remain even as you sojourn to be with your Creator. May your soul rest perfectly in the Bosom of the Lord. Adieu Mama-Eteta.
~ Mrs Purene Ikusa Mac-Frank (Ekon Women Leader)-Daughter

The shocking News of your death Mama on Friday 12th May 2023 came to me and my family with mix feelings. On one thought, we were comforted with the ultimate will of God Almighty to call you back home at a ripe age of 102 years, a time when no well meaning individual can interrogate. Your good works, footprints, and legacy on earth are visible, indelible, and immortal. On the other note, the most challenging and confronting one for me and my immediate family was your sudden stoppage of your philanthropic gestures, love, wise counsels, moral impacting stories, prayers, and fasting occasioned by your physical absence. My mother, Tonye Mark Obeba (Nee: Abhila Abharashiba) who was popularly and respectfully called Mama- Eteta was a devout Christian. She served God wholeheartedly. Madam Tonye fasted and prayed continually for her family and others. She worships and praise the Lord always. Without doubt she was one of the most outstanding philanthropist and humanists. Tonye believed that what we have done for ourselves alone dies with us. But what we have done to others remains and is immortal. For Mama, giving out to others, sharing and placing the needs of others above self were the raison- d' etre for her earthly sojourn. She derived pleasure and contentment in bringing succor and comfort to the poor and apparent rejected of society. Tonye Mark Obeba was a shining light in her family, church and to humanity. She was a source of blessings and a pillar of strength to many people. She lived a legendary and examplary life, an epitome of love, peace and truth. She was a virtuous woman who built her home and family on the moral path of righteousness. She was very submissive to her husband. She was an understanding woman, a feature which help her to establish her home. She lived a happy and peaceful life with her husband and children. Madam Tonye Mark Obeba lost her parent and sibling at a tender age. Though from a Royal blood, but was able to successfully navigates the daunting challenges that typically confronted an African orphan through obedience, honestly, dexterity and hardwork. Her life of service to God and humanity, industry, humility, peaceful disposition, moral integrity and generosity are attributes she apparently gleaned from her maternal grandmother, late Princess Adeyal or Aduebal Iworiso's outstanding and indefatigable tutelage. Mama, you are a matriarch, Mama Eteta you have written your name in gold. Your legacy will continue to lives on. Your absence created a huge vacuum in human race, too difficult to fill. May your soul find Eternal rest in God's Bosom Amen. Adieu Mama-Eteta
~ Chief Kobokam Emmanuel Mac-Frank-Deputy Mark (Son)

Mrs Ayibatonye Mark Obeba, my mother, lived a happy and fulfilled life. You are one virtuous woman very difficult to find in our present generation. You lived a peaceful life with your family members and any other person you comes across in this world. Words cannot describe how valuable you are to me and others. My nature in terms of character disposition cannot be fully written or discussed without the moral impact of my dear mother. My mother disgusts immoral talks and acts; and never wanted any of her immediate family members to engage in them. Tonye was a christian and God fearing woman. She was a kind and caring woman. Her length of generosity was immeasurable. She continually gives out money, drinks, food items, wrappers e.t.c freely to the needy in the community and elsewhere till death took her away from us. A tale she frequently told called "Ekudogia(Short Knife)" which contains multiple of moral lessons is still fresh in my mind. It touches all aspects of moral behaviours of human. The tale symbolically X-rays how a frequently cheerful giver or a generous person will always live in abundance and merriment. While the stingy individual will never be comfortable and unhappy with rewards received. Her expression of love to us as family was very strong and unconditional. Whenever one person is sick, she will never rest but support financially, physically, prayerfully e.t.c until that individual is heal. Even in the mix of abundance food, she will never eat until all her children have eaten and satisfied. Dear Mother, your demise have created a big vacuum too difficult to fill. You have actually exited the world stage at a time when you have actually accomplished your purpose on earth at age 102 years. May your soul rest in God's Bosom. Adieu Mama-Eteta
~ Chief Azibanator Mac-Frank-Obeba (Son).

Grief is like the ocean; it comes in wave ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm Sometimes it's overwhelming. All we can do is learn how to swim. My mother late Mrs Ayibatonye Mark Obeba (nee: Abila Abharasiba) popularly known as mama-eteta was an inspiring soul. She was always there for all who came to her with their diverse issues. Her home was open to everyone and her hospitality was second to none, it made them feel important. She was the most loving, humble, compassionate, understanding, family oriented woman and one of the beautiful souls one could ever meet. Mama, to the world you were one person, but to me, you were the world. You didn't have much, but we always felt like everything is at our disposal. Though, you didn't leave millions in your bank account, but you left a legacy with so much more. You were precious, a gift from God to us and to salvage humanity, so much beauty, grace and patience you possessed. You touched my life in so many ways. Even on dark days, your strength and smile made me realise I had an angel beside me. I don't know how I will do life without you but I will find solace in the lord. I am going to miss you so much mum.
~Anthony Mineteta Mac-Frank-Son

When we heard about the news of mama's death, we were shocked, confused and could not even believe it initially. Mama was such a wonderful woman. We have never seen or heard about grandma abusing or quarreling with her husband or any other person. Mama was a kind, caring and hard-working woman. She loves giving out freely even with her very last money, wrapper, drink, and food to us or any other person. We have never come across such an individual before in our lives. Talk of moral lmpact that comes with tales, mama was there. She was always there for us physically, financially, and of course materially. She will always advise us not to fight, quarrel, but to read our books always and be of good behaviour. One amazing thing she does even at a very old age was that mama prays and sing songs continually to glorify God. Mama was a peace loving christian. Mama, we miss you. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace in the Bosom of the Lord. Mama-Eteta, we love you but God loves you more. Adieu Mama
~ Ruth, Princewil, Azibalua, Joy, Destiny Mac-Frank-Grandsons & Granddaughters.

A tribute to my one and only grandma (Mama-Eteta): I'm having a bleeding heart each time I remember that you are no more. It's difficult to believe that Mama-Eteta is no longer exiting on earth. Mama-Eteta, you are generous, capable, loving, caring, truthful, honest, peace etc. You have impacted good legacies on me, which I adhered to it, and improved my life positively. Mama-Eteta, I missed you so much but God knows it best. Gialuzaro.
~Mrs Obebatein Ikusa- Granddaughter

My Treasured Grand Mother, Late. Mrs Ayibatonye Mark Obeba, I am missing you.
It was hard to take it when I saw you lying down on your bed speechless. At that moment I knew that all the moral lessons I do grab from the stories you tell had come to an end. No one can take your place in my heart Mama. Who is going to let me take the first glass of wine from every bottle they ask me to open? Who can be more generous to me with all they have? There was a time I overheard you praying to God “Jehovah add more years to my life just as you did to Hezekiah after seeing reasons with him as he prayed to you”. It surprised me because I knew that you never had any educational experience, but still you could quote and explained the Bible scriptures vividly on how God added fifteen years to Hezekiah’s life. ISAIAH 38:1-5. I pray and wish to possess all the good characters of yours; your outstanding generosity which is beyond measure, kindness and humility which is hard to find. You spending 102 years on earth is very obvious for your kind of person. May the Lord prepare a perfect place for you as you return to the Maker. I am missing you and at the same time wishing you the best because I know that an end here on earth is the beginning to internal life and all that God had promised his children. Thank you for the sacrifices you’ve made, thank you for influencing us positively with your God-fearing characters and thank you for being my Grand Mother because I believe that all these good characters of yours are embedded in our gene too. I will forever be glad that you are my Grand Mother.Rest in peace Mama-Eteta.

My grandmother Late Mrs Ayebatonye Mac-Frank (Nee Abila) was a very cheerful giver and a special woman who was specially made by God. I remembered that when I was little she fondly used her name (Tonye) to call myself anytime I visited her. And she would make sure I go back with some gifts. Her death was a very big shock to me. Going to the village has been amazing because of her but now that she is gone anytime I go to the village I feel empty inside of me but l know that she will ever live on in my heart. Goodbye my lovely and sweet grand mother and may your gentle soul rest in the perfect peace of the Bosom of the Lord. Mama Gialuzu aro

Gone but never forgotten: Tribute to a virtuous woman and quintessential mother. The news that Late Mama Ayebatonye Mark Frank has gone to be with the Lord came to me as a rude shock as I never wished for my dear Aunt to leave the earth this soon. Words are insufficient to express the grief in my heavy heart or to describe the kind of person you were to me, my dearly aunty and friend.
Mama Tonye, as I fondly called you; a successful farmer, you were such a supportive and inspiring person, I clearly remember the comfort you brought and the peace that you resonate whenever I was around you. You were a go-getter who was determined to achieve your dreams, as evidenced in your numerous achievements particularly in your quest to unite the family and community. The honour of our bond and in reverence of the memories of all that we shared together in this life has made me to pen down my sincere thoughts.
Late Mama Ayebatonye Mark Frank and my late father Chief Cornelius Freeborn Mondebo (Esan) were first cousins, but they lived and grew up together as though they were twins. Her love for me was exceptional, she called my first son Ateti, the pet name of late Chief Alpheus Mondebo her maternal uncle because she saw the little boy as a replica of her late uncle who she loved dearly.
Her husband late Chief Mark Frank Obeba was a reputable personality in Opume but he gave his wife unhindered leverage, hence there was no incident or issue in Asi's (maternal) family that Mama Tonye did not create time to play a key role.
You were a caring mother, a loving wife and wonderful aunt. You have left an indelible mark in the lives of your children, extended family members and friends; you were generous soul who literally touched and transformed a number of lives. Mama lived a fulfilled life here on earth, the legacies you left behind would never be eroded as generations to come will also build on these legacies.
Her life was very impactful, loving and kind. The elements were so mixed in her that nature might stand up and say to all the world that this was a mother indeed.
No doubt, I morn you, but with gratitude to God for your worthy life of dedication and undaunted commitment to the service of humanity and pray that the good Lord should comfort your children and the entire family with strength to bear this irreparable loss with hope that they will be further inspired knowing that our hearts goes out to all of them at this moment of mourning.
May your gentle soul continue to rest in the Bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Adieu Mama Tonye! Adieu

I believe you're in a much better place than when you were on earth with us. I'll be for ever grateful and thankful to you. GELZARO MAMA.
~Chief Minabai Aziboledia Michael -Alali(Nephew)

Rest in peace, Ma, you will remain to be one of our dearest forever. It always seems like we have all the time in the world, only to realize how fleeting it really is. I wish we had more time to do and say the things we saved for later, which, along with you, is gone forever. I promise to keep you alive in my memories.Giozaro Amama

The Vicar, the PCC, and the entire congregation of St. Peter's Anglican Church Opume, condole with the families of Mac-Frank, for the death of your mother, grandmother, great grandmother, who had left you by death. Though Mama died on a very ripe age, the fact remains that she is no longer with you and forever has gone to be with the Lord. We pray that the family, especially the children will follow the legacy she has left behind while on this earthly enclave, especially living a ripe age of about 102 years.
May God comfort you, and the Opume community on this irreparable lost, and may God Almighty accept her soul in His Eternal Bosom Amen.
Adieu Mama
