“I REMAIN A STAUNCH PDP MEMBER, BUT WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT PRESIDENT TINUBU’S ADMINISTRATION - GOV ENO TELLS DEFECTORS

In a carnival-like atmosphere, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, today, at the Ibom Hall Grounds, Uyo, received thousands of defectors from other political parties in the state to the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The defectors comprised top former office holders, such as the former House of Representatives Member, representing Oruk Anam, Ukanafun Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukoette, former State APC Publiicty Secretary, Nkereuwem Enyongekere, former Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Samuel Effanga, former Youth Leader of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, Ubong Edem, former Transition Chairman of Ukanafun Local Government Area,, Barrister Abasiono Udonfuk, Hon. Mabel Udongwo, former Oruk Anam State House of Assembly Member, youth and women leaders drawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC),Young Progressives Party, YPP, New Nigerian People’s Party, NNDP, and Social Democratic Party, SDP.

Also received into the PDP, were former foot soldiers of the above parties who were front and centre in the fight against the ruling party at the last gubernatorial election.

Governor Eno, in a very exciting and impassioned speech while receiving defectors spoke of his spirit of inclusivity and the kind of a partyman he is.

“A lot of people have asked repeatedly: Are you in PDP? Yes! I am in PDP but my PDP is not the type that insults people. So I want to beg you as you come back, one of the things you must drop is let's not attack leaders.

“From the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we will and must show him support and respect. That is the PDP I run.

“We don't attack leadership because what goes round comes round.

“If I have a suggestion, I have access to the President, we will go and give our suggestions. We will support our leaders and we will not fight them.

“I am a pastor trained to respect people and we must continue to show that all-important character of humility, of compassion and of respect to constituted authority.

“That, I shall continue to do. I and our Party will continue to collaborate with the Centre so that we can bring dividends of Democracy to Akwa Ibom. I will not fight the Centre. Nobody will fight the Centre. That is the point and now that you are coming back, that is what we will maintain. We will give peace a chance.

“The last administration that God made me to take over from was a peaceful administration and so there is a continuity.

“Without peace, there can be no progress. So please for those of you that were abusing us, don't bring that spirit of abuse and begin to abuse people in authority. Please drop that spirit and let's work together. We have only one President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and we owe him our allegiance.

“We must show respect, decency and loyalty. That's why, everything that the President had promised us, God will touch his heart and he will give it to us. You don't abuse somebody and then turn round and want to go and benefit from the person. Is that good?

“But for PDP, we are standing firm in PDP in Akwa Ibom State. Don't let anybody deceive you. Don't attend any illegal meetings, don't go. They call you in the night and say come to this place, someone wants to see you. That is a lie.

“This is me, and I will take care of you in Akwa Ibom. Don't allow anyone to deceive you.

“When we give you good good governance, that is what we mean by taking care of you. We are giving out free food through palliatives.

“We are creating jobs and ensuring that our young ones have something to do.

“You voted for good governance and I am sacrificing everything to ensure that we do good to our people.”

Earlier, the State PDP Chairman Elder Aniekan Akpan had welcomed the defectors to the party and enjoined them to work for the continous growth and expansion of the party. The Political Adviser Dr. Godwin Ntukudeh had presented a register of over 40,000 new members to the Governor.

The Governor, had earlier in the day inaugurated the Board of Akwa Ibom Bulk Purchase Agency, which is tasked with the onerous responsibility of administering the Arise Food Security Programme, a compassionate scheme where free food vouchers are to be given to the neediest and the most vulnerable through the State’s Social Register, to be redeemed at designated redemption centers throughout the thirty one local government areas. The programme is scheduled to be launched next Tuesday.

GOVERNOR ENO FLAGS-OFF 16.5KM ROAD PROJECTS TO LINK SIX LGAs
..announces enrollment for skills acquisition at DASAC

In line with his commitment to build a network of economically significant roads across Akwa Ibom State, Governor Umo Eno has flagged off the construction of 8.6Km Ediene Abak-Ikot Ekan road, linking Abak, Etinan and Uyo Local Government Areas.

He also flagged-off the 7.9Km dual carriage Ring Road-3 extension to link the three LGAs of Uyo - through Idoro, Ikono - through Itak and Ibiono Ibom at the Ikot Ekpene Road axis to the existing Ring Road III.

Speaking at brief ceremonies which took place at Ikot Ekan in Etinan, and Idoro in Uyo, Governor Eno said government has mobilized for the construction of 20 economically viable roads across the State, adding that it remains committed to development projects that will fulfill the ARISE Agenda.

He noted that the Ring Road III is economically viable as it will create access to some investments of the State in the area, including the low- cost housing estate, Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre as well as open up the various farm communities.

Governor Eno said he wants the youths to be meaningfully-engaged, and announced that the State was ready to commence enrollment into the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, (DASAC) in Ikot Adaidem, Ibiono Ibom LGA.

The governor restated his commitment to ensuring that Akwa Ibom has the best road network in Nigeria, to allow people live and work in any part of the State.

He reassured that his administration is determined to reach every part of the state with live - touching development projects and sued for cooperation of the citizenry by creating an atmosphere of peace, stressing that no price should be seen as too much for peace.

According to him, "we are here this afternoon to flag-off Ring Road III extension. This road traverses three Local Government Areas. But the attraction for me is because we have a Housing Estate on this road. I visited this road and saw the beautiful Houses, but there was no road, it is like building a city in a jungle. So that spurred me to say let us open this road because when we open the road, those houses will sell at good rates and also enhance the economic activity of the area.

"These are the kind of roads we want to construct because Akwa Ibom must remain one of the states with the best road network in this country. From any local Government, you can reach Uyo within one hour, and that is what we are driving at. If there is any one we have not been able to reach yet, we are coming". Governor Eno said.

Speakings at the Ediene Abak-Ikot Ekan road flag-off ceremony, the governor credited his administration's resolve to construct the road to an SOS video sent by pupils of St Patrick's School in the area, who were stranded on a rainy day.

He stated that this was evidence of his government 's resolve to accomodate the interests of all categories of the citizenry in appreciation of their support for his emergence as governor.

In his words, "I give credit to some school children that sent me the video of this road. It was on a rainy day, they were in the rain, and on this road, they took the state of the road and sent to me. I forwarded the picture to the Commissioner for Works and I told him, because of this children, let's do this road. So I want to thank those children that took the bold step and sent the pictures and what they inscribed on the picture was, "our dear Governor, please help us," and that is how this road came to be.

"This shows that we listen to all strata of people. Once we know that what you are saying is genuine, we will listen to you," he added.

He charged the contractors to ensure that they deliver according to specifications and expected time frame, while urging stakeholders in communities where projects are being executed to cooperate and support the contractors to enable them deliver accordingly.

Giving an overview of the projects, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, described the Ring Road III extension project as the completion of the road in accordance with the masterplan, explaining that the road will span 32.1metres, with 2metres walkway and drains throughout the 7.868Km length of the road, with a roundabout each at the Idoro and Ikot Ekpene ends.

The Commissioner said the Ediene Abak-Ikot Ekan road which crosses Uyo at Ikot Nsung is also designed to have drains through the 8.6Km length of the road, with an outfall drain at the lowest point of the road to ensure quick evacuation of water, adding that the road upon completion will enhance a network of the Abak-Uyo-Etinan axis and allow for ease of security and other services, as well as ensure the Saint Patrick School pupils access their school with ease during rainy season.

Leaders and stakeholders of the various communities including Federal and State Legislators, Transition Chairmen of the benefitting LGAs, Paramount Rulers and others celebrated Governor Umo Eno's commitment to the rural development aspiration of the ARISE Agenda and linking the economic nerve centres of the State with significant road projects.

BEING THE CHRISTMAS MESSAGE BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PASTOR UMO ENO, GOVERNOR, AKWA IBOM STATE, GOVERNMENT HOUSE, UYO-DECEMBER 25TH, 2023

Fellow Akwaibomites,

1.Today represents a great day in Christendom. It is the day the Saviour of mankind, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was born.

2.My wife, Her Excellency, Pastor Patience Umo Eno and I, extend to you our warmest greetings on this great and important day in the Christian Calendar. It is a season of joy, of good tidings, of love and of looking out for those who may have fallen on the rough edges of life. It is a day to celebrate hope, that, in the birth of our Lord and Saviour, our future and salvation to mankind are assured.

3.Let me again thank you all for the prayers and support you have extended to us, since you overwhelmingly voted for me, on March 18th, 2023, to be your Governor.

4.It has been seven months of hitting the ground running and working furiously to translate into practical and measurable terms our campaign promises as encapsulated in our ARISE Agenda.

5.This speech is not one to reel-off my Scorecard; in my New Year Day Broadcast to you my dear people, I will present what we have collectively achieved together in the last seven months, and what we hope to achieve in the New Year.

6.Let me use this opportunity to thank all those who have expressed such heart-warming and wonderful sentiments to us, for bringing Christmas cheers to our workers through the payment of the additional one month salary, making it 13 months which you have affectionately dubbed “Eno-Mber”.

7.We will continue to pay special attention to our workers and also ensure that we create the enabling environment for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, (SMEs) which is the engine of growth, in any economy to thrive.

8.We will continue to tackle those critically important kitchen-table issues, which affect families. We will continue to pay down gratuities to our retired workers, and ensure that our children go to school, especially at the primary level in an atmosphere that fosters creativity, academic excellence and social interactions, as exemplifies by the features and facilities at the newly rebuilt Model Primary School at Christ the King School, on Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, which would be replicated in all local government areas. We are doing same, in the healthcare sector, with the soon-to- be commissioned model healthcare centre, located in Ikot Nkowk, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

9.This is a season of joy and goodwill. I call on our people to continue to live in peace and unity and eschew tendencies that seek to divide us. As I have been saying: Politics is long gone. It’s now time for governance. We should bury and throw into the trash can, the cards of hatred, of whipping non-existence schisms and of demonizing our leaders and symbols of authority. From Ibibio to Annang lands, to Oro Nation, to Obolo, we are united and shaped by the language of love and unity. We are homogenous. Therefore, let no one throw a poisonous substance into our otherwise calm waters of unity and kindred spirit.

10. We will continue to flow with the waves of love and amity and as you celebrate this day, please remember to reach out to those who may have fallen on the rough patches of life. Don’t just give hand-outs, give them a hand to get up and let us together ARISE and work to extend the frontiers of the Golden Era of our collective growth, development and progress.

11. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance! God bless Akwa Ibom State, God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria and God bless us all.

2023: Welcome to Our Year of Shared Prosperity

My dear good people of Akwa Ibom State, we are grateful to God for the gift of a new year. Nonetheless, a new year, such as 2023 is not just about celebrations and resolutions but a year that defines many new beginnings for us as a people. God has blessed us with all that we need to excel. Thus, it is not enough to craft new year goals and resolutions but to be concerned about the kind of people that seek to take over the reins of power and govern our dear State.

No amount of resolutions would succeed where bad governance and leadership subsist. Your resolutions for 2023 should be to install quality leaders with verifiable pedigrees. We must as a matter of urgency and duty ensure that only the people's choice stands, as the quest to reposition Akwa Ibom State as one of the most economically viable states in the country requires a leader with genuine integrity, character, and compassion.

As you celebrate the 2023 new year, be cognizant that Akwa Ibom deserves the BEST, as we rally together to build a State where every citizen will feel secure, act in patriotism, and have the assurance of fulfilling his or her aspirations where hard work, creativity, and cherished values are rewarded.

2023 affords all that, and more opportunities to erect the Akwa Ibom State of our dreams.

Happy New Year, my beloved brothers and sisters.
