GOV ENO ATTRIBUTES SUCCESSFUL PDP LG PRIMARIES TO PEACEFUL, UNDERSTANDING NATURE OF A’IBOM PEOPLE

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has attributed the hitch-free conduct of the Chairmanship and Councillorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the state to the peaceful and understanding nature of Akwa Ibom people.

Speaking at the Nsit Ubium Local Government Council Secretariat, Ikot Edibon, after the conclusion of the party primaries in the area, Gov. Eno reiterated his appreciation for the understanding and good conscience exhibited by Akwa Ibom people towards the government and the state in exercising restraint amid the nationwide protest.

He therefore restated his commitment to ensuring that the welfare and security of the people remain top priorities.

The Governor noted that funds that would have been spent on repairing damaged facilities and treatment of injured persons, if the situation had turned violent in Akwa Ibom as reported in some other states, are channeled into programs that will register the appreciation of the government to the people of the state.

The State Chief Executive also commended the security agencies in the state for their commitment to peace and for being civil in their approach, which, he maintained, has yielded the right results.

“I want to thank God for what He is doing in Akwa Ibom State, and I want to thank the entire people of Akwa Ibom. I have said so for the umpteenth time. I thank them for their understanding: our youths, our men, our women, market women, transporters, our elders, our students. Thank you for keeping our state peaceful. For me, it’s a big encouragement.

“When something wants to happen and a leader steps forward and appeals to the people and the people show restraint, it means you have good followership. I know things are hard and I have a clear understanding, but I want to thank all of you.

“Speaking from Nsit Ubium today, I’m speaking to Akwa Ibom State; for not participating i

AKWA IBOMITES SNUB NATIONWIDE PROTESTS, INSIST ON PEACE

Akwa Ibom people have reaffirmed their belief in the Governor Umo Eno led administration, insisting that they will continue to support his ARISE Agenda economic blueprint for the State.

A cross -section of residents told our reporters that instead of joining in the nationwide protest, they felt inclined to heeding the appeal of the Governor for peace and sustainable development.

Although few shops and business premises within the State capital were not opened, other law abiding residents were seen going about their regular activities while the streets were not as busy as other days, but overall, there was peace and tranquility all over the state.

“The Governor has already spoken with the youths and he is addressing their grievances and we believe there is no need for a protest”, Samuel Ibanga James, a phone repairer at the popular Ibom Plaza in Uyo said to reporters.

Governor Eno, had on Wednesday completed the sharing of 48,000 bags of rice and 4,800 bags of garri to 2,282 villages in the State, with each village getting 20years of rice and two bags of garri.

This gesture was also extended to the communities of non indigenes, the security agents and civil society organizations.

Governor Eno on Tuesday had met with leadership drawn from youth groups, Students, Market Associations, labour movement, Civil Society Organizations, traditional fathers and had appealed to all concerned that the State will benefit more in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

"Let me also emphasize that we are a peaceful State and we have maintained this hard-won peace, over the years.

"We have paid over N22 billion gratuities to the retired Primary School, Local Government and State Civil Service retirees and N50 thousand stipend to the elderly in our ARISE Elderly Care Initiative.

"Our free voucher programme through our Bulk Purchase Agency has so far touched 314, 422 families in the state, the social transfers to the aged, physically challenged, chronically ill, widows has equally impacted and touched over two hundred thousand beneficiaries drawn from the revised Social Register.

"We have also paid wage award for three months to cushion the effect of the high cost of living arising from the removal of fuel subsidy.

"We paid the 13 month salary tagged ’Enomber’ last December and about a month ago, had paid 1.1 billion Naira as bonus to all public service workers to mark the ‘Public Service Week.”, the Governor had said.

The strong presence of the police and other security agents at strategic places was observed across the State. The state is peaceful and the youths have hearkened to the appeal of the Governor not to participate in the planned protest

A'IBOM GOVT SET TO COMMENCE ARISE SHELTER INITIATIVE
.. as Gov Eno Urges Aides to Further Rural Devt Agenda

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has disclosed government’s readiness to commence the Arise Shelter Initiative, an housing scheme for the less privileged in the local government areas across the State.

Governor Eno announced this during a meeting with the 368 Ward Personal Assistants at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.

The Governor who decried the dilapidated state of residential houses of the less privileged in the State, assured on the readiness of his administration to change the narrative by providing 31 houses to the poorest of the poor across the State in line with the rural development component of the ARISE Agenda.

He explained that the houses which would be fitted with solar power and water facility will be built in batches across the 31 local government areas of the State.

He said, "we are starting the ARISE Shelter for the Less Privileged. Firstly, we have finished the design of the buildings, costing has been done for two bedroom flats with solar lights and boreholes.

"I did this quietly because I didn't want this politicized. If I had given people opportunity to do this, they would have chosen people from their families. So we had to do this quietly, and we want to start awarding this quietly to all these people and when we finish, we will go round again. This is because I care for the rural people.

"There is no local Government that is not represented here.we will start this projects soon and when it starts, I expect the Ward PAs to go and inspect the progresses of these projects and bring us reports.

"If we continue to touch these small lives, it will have a great positive effects such as increasing the life span of these dwellers. We may not be able to touch everybody, but let us show the way so that any philanthropic organisation will follow us," he said.

On the bulk purchase agency bill, the Governor said.

Senate suspends Abdul Ningi for three months over false budget padding claims

The senate has suspended Abdul Ningi, senator representing Bauchi central, for alleging that the 2024 budget was padded by N3 trillion.

The matter was debated in line with the standing order of the senate during plenary on Tuesday which lasted more than three hours.

The upper legislative chamber suspended the lawmaker after a motion on privilege moved by Solomon Adeola, senator representing Ogun west.

At the weekend, Ningi stirred a discourse when he made the allegation and said a “huge damage” has been done to the north and the entire country through the budget.

The national assembly had passed a budget of N28.7 trillion for the 2024 fiscal year.

President Bola Tinubu had proposed N27.5 trillion, but the lawmakers je**ed it up by N1.2 trillion.

While moving his motion, Adeola argued that his privilege was breached because he was part of the processes that produced the 2024 budget.

"My privilege has been breached because I was one of those who participated in the preparation of the budget. With what has transpired in the last three days, my privilege has been breached,” the senator said.

“One of the senators of this chamber granted an interview to BBC Hausa and issues relating to budget were mentioned.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I have the full transcript – notarised – of the interview and I have here in a flash the voice of Abdul Ningi and I want to lay it before the senate.

“It becomes necessary because of the headlines that have come from these interviews.”

Though Ningi got up to defend himself, claiming that he had documents to back up his claim, the majority of the senators sought his punishment.

Opeyemi Bamidele, majority leader of the senate, said the comments by Ningi were an attempt to “overthrow” Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“What he did was tantamount to a coup using the platform of the Northern Senators Forum (NSF),” Bamidele said.

A'IBOM GOVT SET TO PARTNER CHINA FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT, AGRICULTURE, TOURISM, OTHERS

There is hope in the horizon for entrepreneurs and other members of the business community in Akwa Ibom State, as Governor Umo Eno has opened discussions with the Peoples Republic of China towards securing trade privileges for people of the State.

This cheering news was the outcome of interactions between the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory,

Governor Eno, while briefing Government House correspondents at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, upon his return to the State, said discussions with Chinese Ambassador was strategic for the accomplishment of the goals of the ARISE Agenda and a step in the right direction for Akwa Ibom people.

He explained that it was important to initiate such interactions in view of State Government's intentions to collaborate with China in areas, including agricultural machineries, industry and tourism, as well as a trade trip of an Akwa Ibom delegation of young entrepreneurs to China to explore business opportunities.

These, he affirmed, were in keeping with his campaign promises to propel Akwa Ibom youths to the horizon of entrepreneurship, by exposing them to the global business environment while also bringing the world to them.

In his words, "During the campaigns we said we were going to support our young people who are in business and make them go international through certain products. This is the beginning of that discussion so that we can begin to have a trade delegation.

"We are also meeting them on agricultural machineries, industrial park and tourism. There are a whole lot of things we believe that we can collaborate with the Chinese, and it is important that we start talking to them. But particularly, we believe that at the end of it, we should be able to lead a delegation to China of some of our young entrepreneurs who will

GOV ENO DIRECTS UNCONDITIONAL REINTEGRATION OF YPP STALWARTS TO PDP
.. tasks returnees on Sincerity, Commitment

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has directed an unconditional reintegration of returnees of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), into the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the different wards and chapters.

Governor Eno gave the directive Monday, while receiving YPP returnees, represented by a delegation of forty six (46) champions, led by Mr. Ubong Edem, at Government House, Uyo.

According to the Governor, in politics, it is normal for people to toe different paths and create a healthy opposition, based on long- standing relationships and convictions.

He stated that, a healthy opposition, helps to challenge the government to gear up for greater performance, especially, if it is done, devoid of bitterness or enmity.

In his words, "Thank you for the fight you put up. May be we wouldn't have been where we are today, but for your resistance. Power is not supposed to be a walkover. There must be some level of resistance and it is that fight that made us prepare better and stay more focused. So, you did the right thing. And where there is no opposition, the government could take the people for granted, so I thank you."

The Governor commended the returnees' resolve to join hands in building the State and assured them that the PDP family at their respective wards will receive them back without any form of discrimination.

"We welcome you back home and I know that we will continue, by the grace of God, to work for our State. All of you that are back and those that will still come, the doors are wide open. We will continue to receive all, believing that you are sincere.

"I believe that the zeal you will bring to the party, will even motivate those of us, who are still in the party, to be more committed and value what we have. We are prepared to support you, we believe that your return will help strengthen our walls, so please go back
