The Akwa Ibom State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has visited the family of the 6th State chairman of the Party, the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong to commiserate with them over the demise of the wife of the late State Chairman, the late Deaconess Elizabeth Udo Ekpenyong.
At a condolence visit which took place at the country home of the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong, at Ikot Oku Usung, Ukanafun Local Government Area, Wednesday, March 6, Members of the State Executive Committee said the circumstances leading to the death of the late Deaconess Elizabeth Udo Ekpenyong was indeed a tragic one.
In their separate remarks of condolences on behalf of the party delegation, the State Chairman of PDP, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, who is also a cousin to the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong, as well as the State Deputy Chairman, Hon. Lawrence Udosen noted that it was quite painful that the matriarch of the Late Udo Ekpenyong's family has departed in a short while after the painful demise of the former State Chairman of the PDP, the Late Obong Udo Ekpenyong.
"The late Deaconess Elizabeth Udo Ekpenyong was not just a wife to my cousin, Obong Udo Ekpenyong and mother to Dr Frank Ekpenyong, Engr. Ekpenyong Ekpenyong and Silver Ekpenyong, but also a mother to me. I recall with a deep sense of gratitude that she had made tremendous contributions to my educational pursuits and celebrated all milestones in my life and that of my family. I am pained beyond words that she is left us at this time. We are however comforted by the sterling virtues she lived by while alive", Elder Aniekan Akpan expressed.
The State Deputy Chairman Lawrence Udosen in his own words said, "we are sure that while the late Udo Ekpenyong was alive, the deceased wife of the former State Chairman was a pillar to him and the family and contributed to the successes the late Udo Ekpenyong had in public and political service. To her children, she was still providing the motherly coverage till her very unfortunate demise. The PDP family in Akwa Ibom State fervently prays that God Almighty should comfort this family in these moments of successive grief."
Responding, first son of the deceased, Dr Frank Ekpenyong, appreciated the State Executive Committee of the Party for the show of concern and support given to the family, noting that although the demise is a very tragic and painful one, the family has found comfort in God's word.
He said, "for us as a family, even though this tragic occurrence has hit us in a hard way, we are comforted in the knowledge that God is still God and we cannot question his ways. Our mother who was the other leg of the pillar in our family has gone to be with the Creator and we can only trust God to comfort us in his own way. We appreciate this show of love by the Party and it will remain indelible in our hearts."
The remains of the Late Deaconess Elizabeth Ekpenyong shall be committed to earth after the funeral service this Friday, March 8, at Ikot Oku Usung, Ukanafun Local Government Area.
