No survivors as wreck of missing plane carrying Malawi Vice President and 9 others is found – President.

Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera said Tuesday, June 11, that there had been no survivors when a plane carrying the Vice President and nine others crashed into a forest.

“The plane has been found and I am deeply saddened and sorry to inform you all, it has turned out to be a terrible tragedy,” he said, in a televised address.

Malawian searchers have found the wreckage of a plane that was carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima, a military source said Tuesday, a day after the aircraft went missing in bad weather.

The military plane carrying Chilima, 51, and nine others disappeared on Monday, June 10, after it failed to land in the northern city of Mzuzu due to poor visibility and was told to return to the capital, Lilongwe.

Photographs shared with AFP by a member of the military rescue team showed army personnel standing on a foggy slope near debris bearing the registration number of the Malawi Army Air Wing Dornier 228-202K aircraft.

President Lazarus Chakwera was due to address the nation. It was not immediately clear if there were any survivors.

Rescuers had been combing a fog-cloaked forest south of Mzuzu on Tuesday, after authorities located the last tower it transmitted to before the plane disappeared.

Earlier, army commander General Paul Valentino Phiri said other countries, including Malawi’s neighbours, had been aiding the search effort, with support including helicopters and drones.

The group departed just after 9:00 am (0700 GMT) from Lilongwe on Monday to attend the funeral of a former cabinet minister some 370 kilometres (230 miles) away in Mzuzu.

Malawi’s former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri was also on board.

A Florida police sniper took what has been considered an impossible shot in a bid to rescue some persons taken hostage by robbers in a bank.

Officers for the Lee County Sheriff’s Department surrounded a Fort Myers Bank of America after a 36-year-old man attempted to rob the facility. The robber took 2 hostages inside the bank, using them as shields while communicating with a negotiator.

The Sheriff’s Department has released video of the standoff, with a sniper steadying his aim onto the suspect while right outside, balancing his gun on another deputy’s shoulder.

Despite the negotiator’s attempts to talk down the robber, he’s heard referencing the man’s children at one point. The robber refused to surrender and instead puts a knife to the throat of one of the hostages.

This led to an immediate response from the sniper who took a shot, with the bullet traveling through a desktop computer screen and right in between the 2 hostages, successfully striking the robber.

The suspect falls to the floor as the hostages run off. Police then moved in, throwing in flash-bang grenades and doing a sweep.

Lt. Todd Olmer of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement;

“Shooting positions like these are trained regularly by snipers for time-critical incidents like these. Due to the suspect’s limited exposure, the sniper took a planned and deliberate shot through a computer monitor, striking the suspect in the center of the forehead, killing him instantly.”

The Late Nollywood icon, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, will be buried on June 28, 2024, in his hometown of Amuri, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

A committee has been set up to plan a burial ceremony that will include a star-studded tribute performance at the Base Event Center in Enugu, a novelty match in honor of Mr. Ibu, and other commitments to make the burial a historic event. The committee has also debunked news that the family is begging for funds, stating that any publication soliciting funds in Mr. Ibu's name is misleading.

FG DECLARES JUNE 12 PUBLIC HOLIDAY

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, June 12 as a Public Holiday to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Nigerians on the occasion.

The minister in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry and released on Tuesday, Dr Aishetu Gogo Ndayako said; “As we mark another Democracy day in the history of our dear country, let us all reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secured, peaceful and indivisible entity”.

He urged Nigerians to remain steadfast on the tenets of democratic governance.

Hon. Tunji-Ojo reiterated that President Bola Tinubu is committed to positive reforms to revive the nation’s economy and enhance security.

The Minister also called on Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to appreciate the progress that has been made, and look forward to a better future for Nigeria’s Democracy.

For God sake, Men are humans too.

Is it a crime being a man?
Where is it written that men don't deserve good things, men don't deserve to be pampered or men don't deserve to be spoiled with gift?

Must it always be ladies all the time?
Se|fishly seeking for what they can't give, if the table is turn?

When will guys come to the understanding or realisation that relationship/marriage is a partnering stuff, where both parties are to join force in bringing to the table, than always pressurizing the other to depression?

Men has really sacrificed alot and it's high time we start appreciating, supporting and pampering them.
*After strategizing their life
*they venture and grow their business
*start building houses
*later got married and pay in full
*send their children to best school
*making sure that everything at home is well taken care of

Yet Lot of our ladies still never see a reason to appreciate nor support their men rather than to compare them to other husbands, and nag them to depression.

Book a vacation with your husband and sort the bill, it not gonna make you a less woman.

Shower him with gift and praises, make him feel worthy

Support him financially, it shouldn't always be him everytime

The more you keep coming online bragging what men should do for you, without categorically stating what you will do in returns is a shame to womanhood

It makes you worthless

And it creates this ideology of we(women) having nothing to over in relationship/marriage

Rivers crisis: 27 defected lawmakers still PDP members – Court declares

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has affirmed that 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, are still members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Justice Okogbule Gbasam of the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt stated on Monday that the claimants were unable to demonstrate that Martin Amaewhule and the 26 other legislators had switched to the APC.

Justice Gbasam emphasized that party membership is established through being on the party’s register or possessing a membership card, stating that televised events or verbal declarations were insufficient proof.

The PDP had requested to be part of the case and was included as the fourth defendant.

Additionally, Justice Gbasam emphasized that the Rivers State government must adhere to all laws enacted by the Assembly since the members are still part of the PDP, and their inclusion in the party’s membership register is the determining factor.

He also mentioned that the state government must follow the laws created by the Assembly since the members are still part of the PDP and have not forfeited their positions.

TRIPARTITE COMMITTEE ON NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE SUBMITS REPORT

His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria inaugurated a 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, on Tuesday 30th January 2024, by the provisions of the Minimum Wage Act, 2019. The Committee was tasked with the responsibility of recommending a new national minimum wage for Nigerian workers in public and private sectors.

The Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage has concluded its assignment and submitted Report to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Monday, 10th June, 2024.

A formal presentation of the Report will be made to Mr President for appropriate action, when the leadership of the Organised Labour as well as representatives of the Government and Organised Private Sector, who are presently in Geneva, Switzerland for the ongoing International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conference, return to the country.

The SGF thanked the Chairman of the Committee, Alh. Bukar Goni Aji and members for their commitment and sacrifices.

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has said that local councils cannot afford to pay the proposed N62,000 as new minimum wage because of the lean allocation from the Federation Account.



National President of ALGON, Mr. Aminu Muazu-Maifata who addressed newsmen in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, on Monday, June 10, said all the 774 Local Government Councils across the nation get allocation of about 18 per cent from Federation Account monthly and it is not enough to pay the N62,000 minimum wage.

He said;

“Apart from payment of wages, we still have other responsibilities such as provision of affordable healthcare, education, security, traditional institution, rural roads as well as youths and women empowerment among others to contend with.”

Maifata who noted that council chairmen had thrown their weight behind wage increment for civil servants, also begged for increase in the monthly allocations of the 774 LGAs in the country to enable councils pay the proposed minimum wage.

He also called for amendment of the constitution to make the tenure of office of LGAs officials uniform across the country for smooth administration, pledging that the association would work with other stakeholders to ensure full implementation of the area councils autonomy as enshrined in the country’s constitution.

The Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State said;

“The tenure of office of LGAs officials should be made four years to enable them deliver on their campaign promises to the electorate. The tenure is three years in some states and two years in some other states which is not good for the administration at the local councils.”

An American citizen on Monday, June 10, attempted to commit su***de on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

Lagos State Police command said the American who is in his early 30s, had directed his baby mama to park her vehicle while he walked to a spot on the bridge, intending to jump into the lagoon.

The statement read;

“An American citizen, name withheld was at 1:23 p.m. today restrained from committing su***de on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

“The American, who is in his early 30s was driven to the Third Mainland Bridge by his Baby Mama in company of his daughter. He directed the lady who was unaware of his motive to park somewhere while he walked to a spot for a leap into the Lagoon.

“A passerby who observed his movement quickly alerted patrolling RRS operatives who persuaded him from jumping, re – united him With his wife before taking them to RRS Headquarters in Alausa.

“The Commander, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), after advising the man and his family, directed that the case be transferred to Gender Department, Lagos Police Command for further counselling and necessary actions.”
