“I remember playing away in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and then at Wembley is so difficult.

“That way they can dribble at their opponent and Erling could run. He was brilliant.

“We push him wider but in central positions he has the ability to dribble and run.

“After he has to have the quality to see the pass like Kevin, Gundogan, Riyad and Phil.

“His next step is to make the pass to Erling in the last moment. He played really good, he helped us to keep the ball and dribble.”

“We are still there in every competition, we spoke about trying to achieve everything we did last year, so I’m delighted that we are still there and we get to go to Wembley!

“We maybe lacked that final ball today, but overall I thought we did more than enough to win the game.

“I think it’s about mentality and working hard because they did have their moments at times where they counter attacked when we gave the ball away cheaply.

Pep Guardiola on Jack Grealish: “He feels good,”

“We have the game then after we have two weeks when he’s going to work as good and hard and as clever as possible so he can come back to be ready.

“The muscle wasn’t the hamstring it was another one, I don’t know the name in English but it’s a muscle that isn’t a big influence on the others which is why he came back quicker against Luton.

“But he’s trained really good in the last two or three day and feels good and positive.

“Maybe tomorrow we need him and especially these two weeks to work well so when he comes back we can have the Jack this season unfortunately we had few time and he can help us for the last part of the season.”

“We had five months without Kevin and two months [for Haaland] but when you compare to other clubs we’re quite good and have done really well again.

“It’s impossible to have a season without injuries but I don’t have the feeling we’ve not had much.”

“But he’s getting better. He’s not ready for this weekend but we spoke with the manager from Belgium, Domenico Tedesco, and he decide I’m grateful because he didn’t feel good and he could recover for the rest of the season.

“He played well [at Anfield]. All the players have problems but the day after he didn’t feel good, but it’s better to take care.

“Eddie is getting better, hopefully he’ll be ready after the international break.

“This weekend for sure [he is out]. He’ll have two weeks off then, he’ll recover, we’ll see how he feels. Hopefully as soon as possible.

“We have an incredible chance at home with our people. We need in home games the support of our fans like we had against United, I don’t remember that environment for a long time.

Pep Guardiola on UCL draw with Real Madrid: “It’s a bit like a tradition, three years in a row playing the king of the competition who have won 14 Champions Leagues,”

“It is what it is, hopefully we can have a good moment.

“[There are] still a few weeks before the first game in Madrid. We’ll see.

“The draw you cannot control.

“Normally when the people say the draw is easy, you undermine the other opponents.

“It’s not necessary to say what Real Madrid is in this competition, the second leg is at home but two seasons ago it was away, so it is what it is.

“We have to do two good games there and here to go through.”

“I would say for us it’s a little bit new, for Real Madrid it’s not special to play the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League,”

“For us in the last years we have been quite consistent, many times in the final, semi-final, final, now the quarter-final again.

“We start to be in this routine of being in the latter stages and when you play in the last stages you play the best in Europe.

“Real Madrid also is there. Sometimes the draw decides, sometimes we are through, sometimes we are out.

“I don’t pay much attention to any one opponent. All the opponents are really, really tough.

“We are excited because it’s a privilege every time we’re here, in the last 16 or quarter-final always it is. It is a special competition.

“I’ve said many times, I don’t know which one is the most difficult of the lot because the Premier League, La Liga or Bundesliga, Serie A… always it’s difficult with a lot of games.

“But this one [the Champions League] is special, going to Europe and with the team, with the club and the organisation, we go everywhere to try to play our best football.

“It’s so nice.”
