The Presidential Campaign Council of the Labour Party will officially begin its campaigns on Saturday, October 29, 2022, in Lafia, Nasarawa State, North Central of Nigeria.

The PUNCH reported that the PCC of the LP had shifted the initial flag-off from October 20 due to the rampaging flood that affected 33 out of the 36 states of the federation.

A terse statement issued on Monday night by the Chief Spokesperson of the LP PCC, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, confirmed the new date to journalists.

He said, “Our presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, had to visit affected states to empathise with affected states and communities across the country.

“After his visitations, the campaign council of our great party has deemed it necessary to earnestly start the campaign from the North Central geo-political zone of Nigeria.

“We call on our support groups and teeming supporters to make themselves available for a worthwhile campaign for the 2023 general elections.”

The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old industrial action conditionally, a member of the union’s National Executive Committee told Channels TV early Friday.

The union decided to suspend the strike during a meeting of its leadership that started on Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday.

The meeting was called by the union to determine its next line of action after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week.

The Court of Appeal had ordered ASUU to suspend the strike before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work can be heard.

Members of the union’s National Executive Committee, which comprises the chairmen of the state chapters and members of the national executive, attended the meeting at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year.

I’m ready to coach Super Eagles again – Oliseh

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Sunday Oliseh, has said he will be willing to lead the team again, only if the conditions are right.

Oliseh was appointed Super Eagles head coach in 2015 but lasted eight months on the job.

The 48-year-old voluntarily resigned from the post citing contract violations, lack of support, unpaid wages and benefits to his players for his action.

The 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner then had coaching stints at Dutch club, Fortuna Sittard and German lower league side, SV 19 Straelen.

‘My priority is to get Nigeria back to the top,” Oliseh told Channels TV in an interview on Monday.

“I will do it (handle the Super Eagles) if the person employing have the interest of Nigeria at heart.'”

Oliseh was recently appointed as a member of the technical study group for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He represented Nigeria 54 times and scored two goals.

A final year student of the department of Theater and Film Studies, of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Joel Chibuzor Uzor Aka Joel Jonez has emerged the winner of the Big Break Moment Africa 2022, a TV reality show for talented undergraduates.

At the Big Break Moment Africa grand finale which held at the prestigious Eko hotels and suites in Lagos, Nigeria, Jonez, a professional dancer was awarded N30 million worth of cash and prizes.

He was given the grand prize which includes a 2021 Geely Coolray and N10M Naira cash.

Thousands of undergraduates auditioned for the show in July and 20 of them were selected from different higher institutions across the country, 5 undergraduates were also selected from the online audition.

The selected contestants were housed for 35 days at The Big Break Moment Mansion where they underwent a series of trainings from industry professionals.

10 Dream mates made it to the grand finale and 5 were selected for their final performance.

The Grand finale was anchored by super talented TV host, Denrele Edun and Ushbebe while the 3 Judges were Hollywood Stars from the USA; Andria Adams, Jonathan Coleman, and Doc Calvin Bonds.

He was born on April 12, 1996 and died on October 09, 2022.

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of our brother and friend Richard Dilichukwu Okonkwo a.k.a Tidinz, who sadly and suddenly departed to rest in the bosom of the Lord.

Tidinz did not die from any overdose as widely reported by the media. He had a health condition that was linked to depression and stress.

He fought!
He was strong!
He was a warrior!

Richard who died at the hospital in the arms of his father on Sunday 9th October promised his fans an album project and his homecoming concert before the end of the year which he has been working very hard on so as to give out the best to his fans.

Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. We plead that the public kindly give his family and friends the time to mourn their loved one. May his soul rest in peace.

FCT police command begins investigation into viral video of a lady claiming one of its police officers attempted to r@pe her

The FCT police command says it has begun an investigation into the allegation made by a lady, Miss Ugwoegbu Ugomwa, claiming one of its officers, DSP Jude Ifeanyi, attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the FCT Police Command, attempted to r**e her in their office.

In the video, Miss Ugomwa, claimed Jude lured her to his office and asked her to follow him so he can ease himself. She said when they got there, he attempted to r@pe her. She alleged that while defending herself, he pushed her from the staircase and she injured herself. She also alleged that he tried to k!ll her.

In a statement released, the FCT police command spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, said facts surrounding the situation have not been fully gathered as of now.

''However, ongoing investigation suggests that both parties are most likely in some sort of erotic relationship. and had gone out to drink and were highly spirited that evening.

The alleged Officer had promised to drop miss Ugwoegbu off when he branched into the office to ease himself as the video insinuated. An argument ensued between both parties on the stairways resulting in physical struggles hence the rash pronouncements that were regrettably too late to be retracted." Tge statement read in part

Adeh stated that while an internal investigation for necessary disciplinary actions has been instituted against the erring Officer, it is important to state that earlier that same day, miss Ugomwa had been to the Command’s SCID where she had earlier reported a case of Blackmail, Threat, Defamation of character and s*xual Harassment and sundry offenses against another person and had lauded the investigation approach of the Officers.

Emmanuel Osodeke, president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, says the union is optimistic of an end to its strike soon.

He said this on Monday at a meeting with the leadership of the house of representatives.

Also present at the meeting was Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives.

“Please, let all of us work together to put a beautiful end to this end to this thing we have started, so that every Nigerian will be proud that we have universities we can be proud of,” Osodeke said.

“Once again, I want to thank you. I also extend our appreciation to the president for intervening, I want to appeal that in the future, we should not allow strike to linger. Strike should not go beyond two days.

“If the way the national assembly has intervened, if we had done that long ago, or those in charge of labour and education had done exactly this, we would not be where we are today. We would not have stayed more than two or three weeks on this strike. There is strike all over the world — UK, US, all over — but they don’t allow it to last.

“So, once again, thank you very much and we hope that working together, in the next few days, we can put an end to this particular imbroglio in the Nigerian educational system.”

The Labour Party has reacted to an alleged attack on one of the supporters of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the party, on Monday.

A social media user, identified as Obi Flag Boy, was allegedly attacked at Oshodi, Lagos, on Sunday.

He posted on his social media account, , that he was attacked by the chairman of Oshodi and his boys for allegedly carrying Peter Obi’s flag.

He posted, “This is what the chairman of Oshodi and his boys did to us today at Oshodi because they saw us carrying the flag.

“We were almost burnt alive if not for an army officer.”

Reacting on Monday through its verified Twitter account, the Labour Party condemned the attack and intimidation of the party’s supporters.

According to the party, Obi’s campaign is a democratic movement, and no one should be molested.
