President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday congratulated renowned hip-hop artistes, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (WizKid) and David Adedeji Adeleke (Davido), on their awards at the Music of Black Origin.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President joined the teeming fans of the artistes in Nigeria and all over the world in celebrating the recognition, which saw WizKid winning “International Best Artiste’’ award, while Davido picked the “Best African Act’’.

The statement as reported by Punch read in part,

“The President affirms that both singers have showcased the rich talents in the country, and brought pride to the nation through their many songs and performances, commending their dedication, hard work and charity works.
“President Buhari also calls on the upwardly mobile artistes to be cautious and mindful of likely distractions to their careers, urging WizKid and Davido to serve as ambassadors of the country and role models to upcoming musicians.”

Saraki: Let’s discuss unity before restructuring

Tuesday, November 28, 2017 03:44Senate President Bukola Saraki says the unity of Nigeria must be discussed before the contentious issue of restructuring.
Saraki said this yesterday in Abuja at the 5th Anniversary Lecture in honour of his late father, Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki, organised by the Northern Union (NU).

In a goodwill message at the occasion, the Senate President said one of the things people should learn from his father was that he stood and worked for the people.
He said Oloye developed the habit of giving and gave his everything for the interest of his people, adding “That is one thing we should all be doing.”
Saraki said, “Some go into politics as business, but Oloye wasn’t like that. This is one lesson that we should learn. He also believed in consensus and bringing the people together.
“Like I said last week, before we talk about restructuring, we must talk about unity. We must not be afraid to do the right thing. As we all honour and remember him, we should continue to protect the unity of this country.”
A former Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada, Prof Iyorwuese Hagher, while delivering a paper titled ‘National Unity and the Future of Nigeria’, said the North led the discussion of national unity because it had the interest of the whole country at heart.
Prof Hagher, who also served as a senator in the Second Republic, said Nigeria’s unity was non-negotiable because the break up would not be in the best interest of the citizens.
While saying that all the agitations for secession were targeted at the North, he said the region would not allow its leaders to fold their arms while a few others beat the drum of secession because of its many experiences.
“When the international community looks at Nigeria today, they see a country with a lot of promises. We can address the national problem of fear, anger, anguish and the rest.
“Olusola Saraki stood for unity, worked for it and died for it. He bridged the North and the South. Any attempt for any section to secede is a serious crime that must be stopped by the state.
“Moldavia and South Sudan have become miserable after secession.
“If Nigeria breaks up, we will become too weak. Our economies will be weakened.”
Earlier, the chairman of Northern Union, Prof Ango Abdullahi, said the lecture was organised as a stimulant to generate other national discourse for unity and progress of Nigeria.

The pictures come on the heels of Atiku's resignation from the APC. Campaign vehicles supporting the candidacy of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have surfaced on the internet after his high profile exit for the ruling All Progressives' Congress (APC). The pictures started circulating on social media late on Sunday, November 26, 2017, with the image of someone that appears to be Atiku himself inspecting the cars.

The cars were branded with his name and the inscription "Yes. Atiku for Nigeria 2019."
While the pictures appear to be genuine, the Vice President's media office has denied that Atiku himself shared the pictures as reported in some circles. Atiku's resignation
In a resignation letter signed by Atiku on Friday, November 24, he accused President Muhammadu Buhari of neglecting him and condemned the APC for "instituting a regime of a draconian clampdown on all forms of democracy".

In a reaction to his exit from the ruling party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) urged him to return to the party where he served as the deputy to former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007, and lost the primaries election to former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011.

While Atiku failed to mention which party he'll be joining, or whether he'll contest for the presidency in 2019, he's expected to pitch his tent with the PDP after a series of private meetings with the party's leadership.

Atiku's presidential ambition
Atiku has contested for the president's seat a number of times, losing to the late President Umaru Yar'Adua in the 2007 presidential election and losing in the primaries to eventual winners President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP and President Buhari of the APC in the 2011 and 2015 presidential elections respectively.

While speaking to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday, Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai warned Atiku that no Nigerian can currently match President Buhari in popularity and contest against him in an election.
