I found her when she was in the final stages of her national service. We fell in love and started making plans for the future. After her national service, she told me she wouldn't go back home because there was nothing to pick at home. She would rather stay in Accra and look for a job. That was the beginning of our cohabitation.

I loved her but it was hard living with a woman who gave nothing but took everything from you. I was feeding her, providing shelter, paying for hair and nails and buying sanitary pads. Six months later it got to me. I got angry easily. I blamed her for everything that was wrong in my life. She kept asking why. I kept telling her to find a job and leave.

The fight turned physical one night. She broke my TV. I broke her nose. I asked her to leave. She asked me where she should go. "Home! Home where your parents will take care of you. Leave my life alone," I screamed.

She begged for one chance. I gave her none. I told her it was over so she should leave my place. She was deviant. She stayed.

She begged me. Maybe, I should have considered her because she was a good girl. She kept the house clean. She washed and cooked. She ran errands but those weren't enough. I expected her to contribute something financially. So her existence in the house made me angry often.

One day she said she was leaving. I wanted her to stay but she was not ready to listen. Another physical fight ensued. I screamed, "Leave. You'll never get a man like me. Never. You'll run back to plead but it will be too late."

I desperately wanted her to stay though I did not know how I was going to work on myself to contain her in the house. She left. Three days later, I called to ask her to come. She told me, "I pray I never meet a man like your kind. You're a beast."

Two years later, I had a wedding invitation in my inbox. It was from her. She added, "This is from deep down my heart. I want to see you there.”

I quickly went on Facebook to look for the guy she was going to marry. It was easy. Their ‘save the date’ photos were plastered everywhere. Quite a wealthy man looking at the house and car they were in. I read how they met in one of the posts the guy had shared. They met when she went looking for a job. She landed the job and also landed the owner of the company. I smiled. She did it.

I thought she couldn't do it without me. She did it and came back to show me the receipts. I was serious when I said she wouldn't get a man like me. It was true, she couldn't get a man like me. She had a better man. Someone who won't beat her because he's the one buying sanitary pads.

I didn't attend the wedding but I sent a message; "Congratulations. I'm proud of you. Enjoy your marriage." She responded, "Thank you and thank you for everything. I haven't forgotten what you did for me."

The best closure I've ever had and I'm happy to know she's in a good place but that doesn't stop me from wondering how life would have been with her by my side.

Just yesterday, I proposed to a lady I've been talking to for a while. She accepted but before that, she gave me three guidelines that according to her will sustain our relationship. She said;

#1. "I'm a woman so I like to be taken care of but I don't like to ask. If we can go far, don't wait till I ask."

#2."I like to be pampered so if you don't know how to pamper your lady, kindly start learning."

#3."I know something will happen between us as far as we are dating but please, I don't like intimacy like that. Once or twice a month, fine."

I asked her, "So what's in it for me? After all that, then what happens?" She answered, "Abi you're a man. You have to make your woman happy."

I nodded in agreement while she spoke but thinking about it now, I don't know what she really wants. I want to know, what does a woman want when she tells you number one and two? Number three is clear but I don't know why I'll do number one and two only to be served with number three. Does it even make sense?

I'll be honest. My wife divorced me because of cheating. I had no reason to cheat except for the fun of it and also the idea that I could get any woman I wanted when I wanted her. We were married for fifteen years and got divorced when I was forty-eight years old with three kids under our belt.

At first, I didn't mind about the divorce. I went through it with breeze until we got to the final stage where it became official.

It hit me like a thunderbolt that I was going to lose someone I'd been with for over twenty years of my life. There was no turning back at that point so we signed and parted peacefully. A few months later, she relocated with the kids while I was living in our family house, about to start life all over again.

I told myself I wasn't going to give birth again so I went around looking for a woman who had no desire for kids. It was very hard. The ones who said yes were not the ones I wanted to be with in the long term. The ones I wanted to be with in the long term said, "No, I will want to have kids with the man I settle with." Even the woman with three children already wanted more.

So I had to give up on women and live my life. Currently, I have no desire for women, not their presence or their companionship. I feel like I've had enough but living life alone at fifty is hard, especially when you've wasted over twenty years of such life.

So I wake up and miss my ex-wife and the children. I miss raising the kids. I miss watching them crawl, walk and talk gibberish. I miss being a father so I pick up the phone and call the boy.

He feels distant, like he hasn't forgiven me for abandoning the ship in the middle of turbulent seas. I force the conversation; stretch the words until I get three minutes of talk time with him. The girls don't want to hear my voice. They feel wounded by what I did to their mom.

I won't sit here and pretend all is well. I've lost their mother but I can’t afford to lose them so I'm saving money. I'll travel and stay not too far from them. I'll establish a new relationship with them. I'll begin again. I'm fifty but not scared to start all over again. It's the price I have to pay for being wayward. If you're reading this, I want you to know this, there's always a price to pay so live well.

We've been talking since we met and exchanged contacts at a friend's wedding. She's cute and I've told her. She's bubbly and I love her for that. She's outgoing and I think the two of us will be a perfect pair.

We had our first date last Saturday. We had fun and were caught in each other's aura until the end of the night she did something that got me thinking.

Our waitress was charming and patient. She ordered the waitress around all night, changing orders and asking for things she could have asked them once. Each time the waitress returned with her order, she smiled and asked, "Is there something more you'd like me to do?"

She stood around and watched us dine until we were done. When she brought the bill my girl was on the phone so I paid and asked her to keep the change. Immediately she hung up the call she asked me, "How much is she keeping?" I wasn't sure so I said, "Oh something small."

She got up and went to look for the waitress and took the change, telling her it was a mistake. She placed the change in her purse and told me, "That's all you guys do and waste money on unnecessary things. What did she do to deserve GHC92? Was she not doing her work?"

Is she a red flag? I've made it obvious that I like her but nothing concrete. Should I retreat?

I met Jigga at an interview. When he saw me entering the room, he shifted, indicating I could sit next to him. When I sat down, we shook hands and became friends. After his interview, he called me on the side and gave me a brief of all the questions he was asked. When I went in, most of the questions were asked. When I came out, Jigga was out there waiting for me.

"How did it go?" He asked me.

"Bro, you really helped me. All the questions were asked."

We exchanged contacts and went our separate ways. When he was given a role in the company, he called to tell me. We were like brothers. We met and celebrated. Little did I know my call was on the way too. A week later I was called. We were over the moon. When we started working, we told our new colleagues that we were brothers.

Three years later Jigga married Alice. I was the best man, wedding planner, in charge of alcohol, and in charge of miscellaneous. After the wedding, I became the advisor in their marriage. They had a terrible start but I served as a competent mediator, resolving every issue that came their way.

Alice was four months pregnant when Jigga drove into a stationed articulator truck and broke every bone that existed in his body. He was at the hospital for a week. He opened his eyes and saw us by his side but he couldn't say a word until he sunk into the ditch of mortality.

I lost a brother. Alice lost a husband. His parents lost a caretaker and his siblings lost a brother who had become a father to them.

I swore to help Alice through the grief and even help take care of the baby she was carrying. "I will dedicate my life to ensuring their safety and take care of them as Jigga would have done,” I told myself.

Alice had a baby girl. I was there. I was there during the naming ceremony. I was there when she took her first step. I was there singing Happy Birthday during her first birthday. I was there when she was admitted to the hospital.

Now I'm here deeply in love with Alice but thinking about the moral angle of my feelings.

I've been with her for so long she has become like a better half. She tells me everything and she knows the reason I can't have a stable relationship. She cooks for me and does little wifey duties to keep my bachelor life going.

She doesn't know how I feel about her romantically and I don't know how she feels too. Most importantly, I don't know how Jigga will feel knowing I have a thing for what he left behind.

Would he rest in peace if we end up together? Would society look at me in a favourable spectacle? Would they be kind with their judgements?

These are the questions slowing my pace to love. I'm convinced she's the one. She's way too kind and I’m the one who understands her perfectly. It will be easier for us to raise the girl, I believe. She's already my daughter. I don't know whether to go ahead or withdraw my feelings from what looks like an indecent affair.
