WHY I AM SPONSORING WEDDING OF 100 GIRLS IN MY CONSTITUENCY- NIGER SPEAKER SARKINDAJI
says, "We are not forcing them into marriage."

The speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly Rt Hon Abdulmalik Sarkindaji has explained why he has decided to sponsor the marriage of about 100 girls from his Constituency in Mariga local government area of the state to get married to their long standing suitors, saying the marriage is being sponsored out his genuine concern for the parents.
He explained that the decision to take responsibility to foot the bills for the marriage of these girls was borne of his sympathy for the parents, some of whom are dead.
Reacting to misconception in some quota that these girls are being giving out in marriage against their wish, the speaker in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and communications, Mallam Shamsudeen Lawal Binaira in Minna on Sunday dismissed the insinuation that the girls who are in two categories are being giving out in marriage against their wish, stressing that over 50 percent of these girls though have suitors, their parents have no resources to meet their marriage expenses as required by their customs and traditions.

"The other categories are those that have lost their parents to insecurity in the area and have nobody to finance their weeding even though they have their suitors."
Shamsudeen explained further that "Majority of these girls are orphans who have lost their parents, including children of our galant vigilantes who lost their lives to bandits and nobody to finance their weeding despite attaining marriage age with someone ready to marry them.
"These girls are not been married out against their will or that their husbands are been forced on them, they have suitors of their choice but only that the parents and relatives do not have the means to marry them out.
Shamsudeen disclosed further that "according to the tradition of Hausa, you cannot marry out a girl without accompanying her with some essential needs to make her comfortable in her husband house like room furnitures, such as bed, mattress, kitchen utensils among others.
"That is what these girls are lacking, and that is the responsibility the speaker agrees to shoulder and relief the parents of such burden. Their parents have been postponing the marriage for lack of resources, and the speaker decided to take over it."

According to him, this is one of many gestures that the speaker has extended to the people of his Constituency who are in dear need and there is motive behind this other than to relieve the parents of the burden.

He pointed out that before arriving at this decision the speaker embarked on a wider consultations with the immediate parents who are alive, relations of the orphans among them, religious leaders and other critical stakeholders in the area.
It could be recalled that the speaker recently off-set the fees for this year’s Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination for no fewer than 100 candidates from his Constituency in Mariga local government area of the state.
In addition to this, all the 100 candidates enjoyed free training for Computer Base Text (CBT) to enable them to get acquainted with the knowledge and the use of computer before the JAMB examinations.
"In addition to this 137 indigents students from Mariga have so far benefited from the Speaker’s scholarship programme into various high institutions of learning.
"Again, all the successful candidates in the just concluded JAMB examination will enjoy free sponsorship in their university education as part of the Speakers educational programme for youth in his Constituency," he added.

NIGER STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY TASKS THE STATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY ON THE WELFARE OF IDPs IN THE STATE

The Niger State House of Assembly has urged the State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) to ensure that the welfare and wellbeing of all the Internal Displaced People (IDP) as a result of Banditry and floods across the state is given adequate attention it deserved.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji stated this in his office in Minna on Monday when the Director General of the agency, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, led other management team of the agency to pay him a courtesy call in his office.

He also asked the agency not to let any stone unturned in ensuring that all internally displaced people in the state are given a sense of belonging.

The Speaker who appealed to the Federal Government to come to the rescue of the state by providing some relief materials to this vulnerable ones, urged the agency to ensure that the little the state government can provide gets to the targeted beneficiaries.

He assured the agency that the 10th assembly will give it the necessary support needed to enable it discharge this all important responsibility to the people, adding that “our doors are open for you and the assembly is ready to give you all the supports to ensure that you succeed.

“We are the representatives of the people, and therefore, their welfare is a priority to us. We feel concerned about the plights of the IDPs in the state, and we will give the agency the necessary legislative supports”.

Earlier, the Director General of the agency, Alhaji Baba Arah told the Speaker that he was in the state house of assembly with his management team to solicit for the supports of the legislatures towards achieving it’s overall goal of catering and providing for those affected by one disaster or the other in the state.

He disclosed that there are internally displaced people across the seven local government areas of the state who enestly need relief materials, saying that the majority of these people are victims of Banditry and flood disaster.

Rt. Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Muhammad Sarkin Daji made this assertion when he paid a familiarization visit to the Executive Chairman of Niger State Universal Basic Education Board in his office.

Barr. Sarkin Daji also used the medium to congratulate the Executive Chairman and Members of the Board for their appointment, and wished them success in discharging their responsibilities.

He further urged them to justify their appointment by bringing their wealth of wisdom and experience for the development of the Educational sub- sector of the State by introducing best standard educational policies and programmes .

He reiterated the Commitments and desire of the 10th Assembly to continue to partner and legislate on laws that will improve the standard of basic Education in the State.

NIGER STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PASS #230, 300,000.00, BILLION NAIRA 2023 SUPPLEMENTARY APPROPRIATION BILL INTO LAW.

The Niger State House Of Assembly has today Wednesday 11th October 2023 considered and adopted the report of its House Standing Committee on Planning and Appropriation on the Supplementary Appropriation Bill of the State as presented by the House Committee Chairman on Planning and Appropriation, Hon. Zubairu Isma'ila.
The Chairman of the Committe disclosed that the content of the report was based on the input from Stakeholders which includes The Niger State Planning Commission and Ministry of Finance..

The Chairman on Planning and Appropriation Hon. Zubairu Isma'ila, disclosed that the Supplementary Budget was necessitated by the expected additional inflow from UBA #187, 000, 000, 000.00, Federal Government infrastructural Grant of #42, 000,000,000.00 and NCNI Serie 3 Bond of #1,300,000,000.00 bringing the total to #230,300,000.000,00 to enable the Government fund critical projects that will stimulate growth and development of the state economy.
He further explained that a total of #230, 300,000,000.00 comprising of #19,081,650,088.94 as Recurrent Expenditure and #211,218,349,911.06 as Capital Expenditure is proposed for year 2023 Supplementary Appropriation.

He further added that the Supplementary Budget affected personnel, Overhead and the Capital Expenditures, All the Capital Projects are viable and are in line with priority of the State Government.

The report of the Committee after presentation at the Plenary, was considered clause by clause and unanimously adopted in accordance with the recommendations of the report ....

In his remark the Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Muhammad Sarkin Daji, commended the House Committee on Planning and Appropriation for their diligence, hard work and commitment to ensure the smooth passage of the 2023 supplementary Budget of the State.
