SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT.

This is to formally notify all partners, participants and the public that the Tourism Fiesta: Face of Tourism Pageant and Awards, originally slated to hold between Friday 24th of May and Sunday 26th May, 2024 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has been moved forward to a later date.

This is as a result of the ongoing activities to mark the One Year Anniversary of Government both at the States and National levels, involving the same VIPs, Guests, Corporations, Institutions, Individual Awardees and participants engaged and or expected at the Event.

We are, therefore, grossly constrained, after due consultations to move forward our Event to Saturday, the 17th of August, 2024, to enable us deliver a memorable and successful outing.

On behalf of the Tourism Operators of Nigeria ( TOPAN) and Management of Nigeria Today Magazine, we regret any inconveniences these changes may cause all the esteemed parties concerned.

Please, kindly accept our fullest regards and considerations, always.

THREE DAYS UNTIL THE LECTURE

As we prepare to unveil the Nigeria Today Magazine, our focus is on dissecting and ADDRESSING THE CHALLENGES OF INSECURITY THROUGH HOLISTIC INVESTMENT IN TOURISM DEVELOPMENT by way of a lecture and we can't talk lecture without a lecturer, therefore, it is only natural that you wait for him or her by waiting for us because it is only 3 days until we sit at the feet of this proverbial gray hair, wise one lecture, to receive wisdom on how to impede insecurity, attract investments and stimulate Tourism, whether medical through the Ibom specialty hospital, sports through the Nest of Champions, hospitality through the Four Points by Sheratons and Ibom Icon Hotels and Golf Resort and so on!

We came in from Abuja few days and we informed you when we landed. We didn't waste time in letting you know who we are and then, the state took ownership of our initiative.

We swiftly themed our mission and we gave it a dateline and a timeline before telling you about those partnering and backing us to make things happen.

FACE OF TOURISM NIGERIA BERTHS IN AKWA IBOM

Face of Tourism Nigeria - a pageantry - put together by Nigeria Today Magazine and Tourism Operators and Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TOPAN) berths in Akwa Ibom, May 25th, and accordingly, it is christened Akwa Ibom 2024.

The pageantry which is one of the four events billed for the unveiling of the magazine will be staged at Remalex Hotels and Suites, Uyo.

Other events slated for that day are: inaugural lecture, photo exhibition and awards ceremony. Speaking to the event correspondents in Uyo, the publisher of Nigeria Today Magazine: Eze Chikamnayo Esquire, hinted that the inaugural edition of the magazine was held in Abuja in March this year with president Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the cover page, which then makes his decision to bring the second edition to Akwa Ibom and sandwich it between photo exhibition, inaugural lecture and award ceremony, quite instructive because it means that his publishing house sees Akwa Ibom as the number 2 state after Abuja, and logically, the governor of the state: Umoh Eno will be on the cover page.

The lecture, he noted, is to update industry practitioners in the industry on trends, departures and prospects in the sector while highlighting juicy areas of investments for potential investors and industry players and then, finally, bulleting the attraction of the practice for aspiring practitioners, especially, the young people!

He further added that the photo exhibition which will be both still and motion, will be the nexus for guests, who may not be able to tour all the tourism sites dotting the state, to join their colleagues around the country who will be coming in for the event, to show their perspective in telling the state tourism story.

Elsewhere, he said that the award ceremony is primarily designed to appreciate those who have magnetized forex into the state by virtue of their activities whether by humming of soothing tunes, raising of physical masterpieces, cooking of enchanting cuisines, stitching of head-turning outfits, scholarly contribution to native language modification and so on.

Yes! On the 25th of May, the FACE OF TOURISM, AKWA IBOM 2024 will tee off in Uyo where at least, 37 girls from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT will walk down our runway for the most prized possession in the pageantry subsector.

OUR COLOURS THE LOGO

We are done kitting and that has glided us to our logo. Green talks about fertile arable land marbling our country and Akwa Ibom which is our choice destination of the 2024th edition of the contest shines brightest with her orange colours that symbolizes the vitality and vigour of Akwa Ibom people which are mirrored in our undauntedness in executing any task including making our state the destination Glory of Nigeria's tourism.

Again, just like the face of the unknown soldier in our cenotaph, the face of the unnamed woman in our logo bears testimony of the fact that we don't know who will win this edition and the subsequent ones that will follow as we tour the country and the world ultimately. Or could it be that you're clairvoyant and you know who will win the most coveted prize in pageantry in this continent's sub-region? And could it be you? Then, go ahead and put your name on that unknown face!

THIS EDITION

We are kitting up and the first thing we are putting up as our bandage of honour is our destination of choice.

From the hills and valleys of Ibiono to the monkeys shuttling the shrubs and the thickets of Itu to the springs of the blue rivers in Ukanafun down to the fine silicon-linings of the enduring Ibeno beach, back to the flourishing landscapes of Uyo, and the beautiful raffia palms competing with the high rises of Ikot Ekpene as seen atop the hanging bridge of Abak and its adjoining skylines: Akwa Ibom didn't occur to us as a second thought for bringing all the beautiful faces and brains of women across the country's scenery to camp here at Ibom Icon Hotels and Golf Resort in the woods of Uruan in preparation for the one walk-way that will spring them to prominence and stardom through their display of brilliance, and more at the biggest stage of its kind in the country.

2024 GETS UNDERWAY

My year teed off at the international worship centre where I shared fellowship with thousands of worshippers who came out in their swine to be part of history in the newly completed edifice.

2023 is obviously gone but I think the world should work intelligently to forestall a third world war before the curtains fall on time.

For Akwa Ibom, there's so much poverty in the land and I look forward to us praying less and sincerely making genuine efforts to create real time jobs to lift many people out of the poverty line.

The employment processes are not transparent in anyway whether in public or private sector and this narrative must be countered and nipped in the bud before it escalates like cancerous cells and bury us in war before I turn 33!
