The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, is dead.

Sources said the governor died on Wednesday at 67.

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state said arrangements were being concluded to swear in his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The state government has yet to speak on the matter.

Efforts to get confirmation from the Alagbaka Government House proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Richard Olabode, did not take his calls nor respond to text messages sent to his phone by one of our correspondents.

Also, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, did not take her calls when PUNCH Online contacted her on the matter.

The PUNCH had on December 13, 2023, reported that Akeredolu is returning to Germany for further treatment.

The governor’s spokesperson, Richard Olatunde, in a statement, said Akeredolu would transmit a letter to the state House of Assembly handing over power to his deputy, Lucy Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor.

Akeredolu who was said to be suffering from cancer, had been going to Germany to treat the ailment during which he handed over to Aiyedatiwa in an acting capacity.

NIGERIA STREET RAPPER OLADIPS IS DEAD

The last video made by rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji, aka Oladips, pleading to be taken to a medical facility before his untimely demise has surfaced.

In the video shared on his Instagram story Tuesday, Oladips, addressing his manager, identified as Rasheed, questioned why he was left alone in the house despite several warnings to his team not to.

"Rasheed, where you con dey since now? I don call your number now."

Responding, Rahseed said he had gone to get the meds Oladips asked him for.

Not long after this, the Lalakukulala crooner requested to be immediately taken to a hospital.

"Come dey carry me go hospital abeg, come dey carry me go," Oladips said.

This is days after the rapper took to his Twitter account asking fans to pray for him as he did not feel well.

He had tweeted, " I don't mean to scare nobody but dipsciples, please pray for me, I don't feel good."

Mr Ibu’s leg amputated after seven surgeries

One of the legs of actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has been amputated.

This was disclosed in a post on his Instagram account on Monday, November 6.

It was stated that the actor underwent seven successful surgeries, but one of his legs had to be amputated to keep him alive and aid his recovery process.

The post reads: "We want to appreciate everyone that has come through for our dad, saying we are grateful is an understatement and only the good Lord can thank you all enough for every help you've rendered.

"As of 1 pm, noon today, Daddy has gone through 7 successful surgeries but to keep him alive and increase his chancesof recovery one of his legs had to be amputated. This development has been hard on us all but we've had to accept it as Daddy's new reality to keep him alive.

"Please we are still soliciting support from well-meaning Nigerians at this stage Daddy is still one very delicate one and he needs all the help he can get.

"Thank you, everyone, the Okafor family is grateful and we don't take you for granted. In due time, Daddy will personally acknowledge everyone who supported him during this period as soon as he’s stable!"

Drama as Nigerian gospel artiste arrives stage in coffin

Nigerian gospel artiste, Samuel Onoja has caused a stir online after arriving on stage to reportedly preach about ”Death to self”.

Photos of the Onoja’s entry have since gone viral on social media with diverse reactions trailing them.

Captioning the photos from the event on his page on Friday, Onoja wrote, “Thank you Jalingo City !!! So much overwhelmed by the testimonies we received after this Experience.

“We return all glory to God for the impact, transformed lives and many others. Welcome Once again to Funeral Service — Death of Self (Die Daily).”

While some appreciated the concept to convey his thought, others disapproved of it.

No Gatherings Near Lekki Toll Gate for Anniversary, Police Warn

The Lagos State Police Command has said it will not tolerate any form of gathering at the tollgate in the Lekki area of the state.

This announcement comes as several civil society organisations prepare for a peaceful march to commemorate the third anniversary of the events that transpired on October 20, 2020, during the protests in Lekki, Lagos.

Addressing this matter, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, stressed that no gathering or convergence of any kind would be permitted in the vicinity of the tollgate.

Hundeyin, who made this known through his official X handle (formerly Twitter), further assured that the police would be present in full force to ensure the safety of all participants in the peaceful procession, provided they do not disrupt traffic.

He wrote, “Buses at/by Oriental Hotel suggests stopping/waiting of buses and gathering of passengers. For the avoidance of doubt, no gathering/convergence whatsoever would be allowed anywhere around the toll gate.

“However, men of would be fully on ground to ensure security for all persons participating in the peaceful walk as long as they are not obstructing traffic.”

Recall that the protests were a public outcry against police brutality, extrajudicial killings, extortion, and abuse of power, particularly by the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad. The peaceful protests led to the federal government of Nigeria dissolving SARS.

In Oyo State, Governor, Seyi Makinde has equally kick-started the distribution of palliatives to poor households in the 33 local government areas of the state.

This is In line with the measures put up by his administration under the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER), to mitigate the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy in the Oyo State.

The governor, who kicked off the distribution of the food relief packages at the Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III Mini Stadium, Oyo State on Thursday, said 200,000 households would benefit from the food relief support.

Governor Makinde added that the government took its time to plan SAfER, which according to him is more than just a palliative.

He equally appreciated the residents of the Oyo zone for standing by him during the March 18 governorship election, noting that the high margin of victory he recorded in the same was quite commendable.

As the governor kicked off the event in Oyo, the deputy governor of the state, Barrister Bayo Lawal; the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo and the Chief of Staff to the governor, also kick-started the distribution of the food relief packages in Saki, Iseyin and Ogbomoso. respectively.

For the Ibadan Less City, the Deputy Speaker, Hon Abiodun Fadeyi, kicked off the distribution of the food packages, while the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, and his counterpart in the Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives Ministry, Honourable Ademola Ojo, kicked off the scheme for Ibadan Main City and Ibarapa zone, respectively.

According to Governor Makinde, the food relief packages are meant for the poorest of the poor in order to mitigate the effect of the economic hardship on them, stating that each package contained a bag of 10kg rice, 5kg bag of beans, 5kg bag of yam flour and 1kg bottle of vegetable oil.

Taiwo Akinkunmi, born on 10 May, 1936, was the designer of the Nigerian national flag. Akinkunmi who hails from Owu in Abeokuta, Ogun state attended Baptist Day Secondary School, Ibadan for his Primary education and Ibadan Grammar School, Ibadan for his Secondary education. He took up an appointment as a Civil Servant at Secretariat Ibadan. After some years of service, he travelled overseas to study Agricultural Engineering at Norway Technical College.

In 1958, during his stay abroad, Akinkunmi stumbled on an advertisement in a national daily calling for submission of designs for the Nigerian national flag in view of the imminent Independence from British governance. He immediately began work on his own entry which was eventually selected as best among the roughly 2000 entries submitted. The original design of the flag featured a white band flanked by two green ones; a red sun with streaming rays was located on the white band. The sun was eventually done away with by the overseeing committee to produce the present design.

Akinkunmi’s design was selected because of its ingenuity and profundity (the green bands represent the forests and abundant natural wealth of the country, while the white band represents peace). The flag was officially hoisted on Independence Day (October 1, 1960) instead of the British Union Jack.

Akinkunmi was awarded 100 pounds by the government when his design was selected. He has also been honoured with the MON (Member of the Order of the Niger) Award by President Goodluck Jonathan. To mark his 77th birthday, a Christian organization called G-Next did a home makeover in his Ibadan residence. The project which lasted from 8th to 10th of May 2013 was managed by Practivate.

During the ember months, Nigerians are spiritually on edge.

The Ember fever. This is the period in the year when Nigerians are on edge.
The ember months are September, October (it really shouldn’t be), November and December. Within these three months, a fever grips most Nigerians. Why?

It’s the last quarter of the year, a period when Nigerians are ‘spiritually sensitive’. After slugging through the year, it is the goal of many that they see the end of the year.

This shouldn’t be any reason to be jittery but you have to understand that Nigeria is a very religious country and by extension a spiritual one.

It is believed that towards the end of the year, evil forces, demons and principalities of the dark world work overtime to ensure people don’t see the end of a year and beginning of a new one.

Everyone in Nigeria knows that during the Ember months that there is a significant increase in road accidents. It is believed that evil spirits are the reason for this.

Yearly, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) embarks on an Ember months campaign to educate people on the habits of good driving as well dispelling the notion that demons cause road accidents.

This is a logical program reduce road accidents during the ember months but sometimes logic doesn’t trump superstition and beliefs.

Try telling the average fervent Pentecostal Nigerian Christian that demons don’t come out en masse to suck the blood of the children of God.

Nursing graduate killed, womb removed after night outing in Ibadan.

A nursing graduate of Lead City University, who was on Tuesday inducted into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Boluwatife Omoniyi, was gruesomely killed by yet- to- be identified assailants.

Her body was discovered without a womb after a night outing in Ibadan.
Omoniyi was found dead and evacuated by the Police in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

It was gathered that she had gone to celebrate her recent induction into the nursing profession at a nightclub on Tuesday night before she died.

A source said Omoniyi had bade farewell to her mother who travelled from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to join in her celebration.

She was said to have left her mother, who came from Port Harcourt, to celebrate with her at home before heading for the club.

Reacting to the news of her death, the club, where she reportedly went, Copacapana denied that the incident happened within their premises, adding that their management would not take responsibility for incident that occurred outside their viccinity.

In a press statement ,the management, said: “It saddens our heart to hear about the tragic event that happened to some customers after leaving our facility.

“However, as a nightclub, we cannot take responsibility for incidents that occur outside our premises, although, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

Our nightclub prioritises the safety of all our patrons…’’

Our venue is equipped with top-notch security systems, making it one of the most protected facilities in the city of Ibadan.’’

An oil rig identified as Depthwize Majestic has collapsed in Sapele, Delta State.

According to reports, the incident happened on Tuesday, August 15. It is reported that about 96 people were on board when the tragic incident happened.

As at the time of compiling this report, more than three persons have been confirmed dead.

PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS 400-LEVEL ECONOMIC STUDENT TO PRESIDENTIAL ADVISORY COMMITEE

President Bola Tinubu has appointed a 400-level student of the department of economics, University of Ibadan in person of Orire Agbaje as member of the presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms.

According to special assistant to the president on social, the inauguration took place yesterday at that presidential villa in Abuja.

"Tinubu met miss Orire Agbaje, a 400 level economics student of the University of Ibadan who is the president of the Nigeria universities tax club and member of the just inaugurated presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms" he tweeted.

Soldier arrested for allegedly killing her senior colleague at a checkpoint in Adamawa

A female soldier, Lance Corporal Nkiru Okokwo, has been arrested for allegedly killing her senior colleague, Captain Bitrus Sini, in Yola, Adamawa State.

It was gathered that Nkiru was enforcing a curfew imposed by the state government when she accidentally shot and k Sini on Monday night, August 7.

SaharaReporters reports that Nkiru sh%t Sini who intervened in an altercation between her and civilians at a checkpoint in Yola.

According to reports, Nkiru had ordered all motorists returning home during the curfew to turn back, but they explained that they were workers on essential duty.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri last week imposed the curfew after hoodl¥ms broke into a government warehouse and looted several items, including palliatives meant to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy.

The soldier was said to be adamant despite the explanation.

“Some people stopped at the checkpoint and explained themselves as workers on essential duties, but the female soldier insisted they must turn back.

A captain came forward to intervene. Unfortunately, she had already c%cked her rifle, so she just fir£d and k him accidentally,” an eyewitness told newsmen.

It was learnt that the army officer was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, where he was confirmed d£ad, while the female soldier was arrested and whisked away by soldiers who arrived at the scene.

The Nigeria Police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has consoled with comedian AY Makun after raging fire gutted his Lekki mansion on Sunday.

Although AY is yet to speak on the incident, the comic actor and producer took to his Instagram page on Monday to indicate he and his family are safe.

The movie star also implied that his wife and children are currently in the United States.

AY, who appeared to be currently in Alberta, Canada, said he could not wait to join them.

“Family and God. That is what’s important. Everything else comes and goes. Can’t wait to join you guys in the US in a few days,” he wrote.

Adejobi via his social media on Monday wished AY well in a post on Instagram.

“I sympathise with my brother, AY Comedian, on the fire incident that gutted his house. It’s quite unfortunate. It’s well with you, bro, ile oba tojo, ewa lo maa busi. May the Lord be with you,” he wrote.

US DIPLOMAT VISIT NIGER TO MEET COUP LEADERS, PUSH FOR BAZOUM'S RELEASE

A senior united States diplomat has visited Niger state to push coup authorities to restore democratic rule after their overthrow of President Mohamed Bazoum last month.

Victoria Nuland, the US's acting deputy secretary of state said on Monday and that she held 'frank & different' talk with military leader Moussa salaou barmou and three of his colonels in Niger's capital, Niamey
All her effort to meet with Bazum and Abdourahmane Tchiani, the self-proclaimed head of the military government were aborted.

She said in a telephone interview with reporters that they are quite firm in their view of how they want to proceed and it does not conform with the constitution of Niger. She said "it was difficult today and I will be straight up about that".

Niger started in late july, 2023 when Bazoum was seized by members of the presidential guard, before national institutiond were shutdown and protesters from both side took to the streets. The head of the guard, Abdourahmane Tchiani, has been named as the new leader, Military Leader.

They also closed the country's airolacd until further notice, mentioning the threat if military intervention from their neighbours. It comes after the ECONOMIC COMMUNITY OF WEST AFRICA STATES demaned President Mohamed Bazoum be releases and bring back to power.
