FIVE (5) POINTS TO NOTE AS THE GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE FLAGGED OFF THE 2024 LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE WEEK

_By Obinna J. Nwankwo_

¶~ *Anambra has been Minimum Wage compliant*✅
Although Mr Governor in a show of empathy, increased the take home of every civil servant in the State since the time of Covid 19, the state abinito had been very compliant with the expired Minimum Wage Act.

Read Section 3 and Section 3 Subsection 2 of the expired Minimum Wage Act below with emphasis on Subsection 2:

"_3.—(1) Every employer shall pay a national minimum wage of not less than N30,000.00 per month to every worker under his establishment, exceptas otherwise provided under this Act._"

"*(2) The National Minimum Wage shall be the minimum total amount of money an employer of labour is required to pay the lowest paid worker or employee monthly in his establishment.*"

By the above section, any wage payment of 30 thousand naira and above is minimum wage compliant. Not being enough to take care of workers' bills is a different issue.

So do not mind any mischief maker(s) who is/are paid to deceive the unsuspecting public. What the workers are saying is that they need an increment all over the country according to the strength and other circumstances prevailing in each state.

¶~Anambra State Government have already set up a Minimum Wage Committee which includes representatives from Nigerian Labour Congress-NLC, Trade Union Congress-TUC, Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees-NULGE, etc. They are already waiting for the passage of Minimum Wage Bill into law. This tripartite committee shall expedite actions immediately the act is passed by the Assembly.
_Governor Soludo is a very proactive leader; and as always, "him no go ever carry last"._

¶~ A lot of Governors get booed out of the venues in this kind of gathering, *It happened in Anambra on August 9th 2011.*
Any Governor who dares to attend will never attempt to turn away from a strict and measured Flagg off to a _free-for-all *Interactive Session*_ unless he/she runs an open and very transparent administration.
_It can only be Soludo._

¶~ Even when the prevailing circumstances in the country are making people accidentally hostile. At a time that transferred aggression and mood swing is understandable throughout the country. It was observed that Anambra Civil Servants find a way to be happy with Nwa Mgbafor.
Who knows if it is because he has employed by far, more than any State, any parastatal, any agency, organization, and possibly any employer beyond Africa in the Civil Service since 2022 and he pays promptly?

Who knows if it is because of the clearance of over 14 billion backlog of gratuities of the local government system?

Or, maybe the unrelenting effort in clearing the backlog of other civil Servants' gratuities which should possibly be the turn of 2020 retirees. Remember, he was sworn in in March 2022.

Or that anyone who retires in his tenure does not wait for his/her gratuities and pensions in heaven. They receive it here on earth, immediately💁🏽. Who knows?
Remember that he awarded them, the civil and public servants, 12 thousand naira non taxable pay for 4 months.

It could also be because civil servants now enjoy good road infrastructures all around the state. Or that pipe borne water has returned to the state, I don't really know🤦🏽‍♂️

¶~ Governor Soludo is the first Governor in Nigeria to make any kind of increment on the salary of civil servants anywhere in Nigeria since the current economic challenge.

AND HE DOES ALL THESE WITHOUT BORROWING A DIME ANYWHERE.

It was a wonderful event✅

SOLUTION YOUTH MOVEMENT IS HERE WITH A NEW NARRATIVE

The previous week ended on a cheerful note for us with the Q1 report on fiscal transparency published by BudgIT which placed us as the number one (1) State in Nigeria on Fiscal transparency. I am happy that some of the foundational steps we are taking to build a fiscally responsible and strong State is paying off.

For me, public office must be discharged with a great deal of responsibility to earn public trust. I have continued to insist that Ndi Anambra are my Employers and every kobo of their money entrusted to me must be accounted for. This is why we are opening up our books to the public and deploying technology to increase transparency.

Happy New Week.

Anambra will continue to win!

On today’s International Widow’s Day celebration, it’s important to reflect on our actions towards women whose partners are no more. Our function as humanity is called to serious question in a world where widows are constantly fighting for their basic rights and human dignity. A society that subjects widows to demeaning and indignifying conditions is no better than the one at war with its very conscience.

We stand strongly on those basic realities as we insist that every widow in Anambra State must not be treated with disdain or contempt. Our idea of inclusive governance means that everyone - widows, too - is as important as what we want to achieve as one, progressive people. To all the widows out there, raise your heads high always, don’t give up, stay strong and visible. We’re here for you today and always ❤.

The Director General, Anambra state Project Management and Monitoring Office, Hon Obumneme Akunyili explains the reason for the recent Palliative Work on intracity roads in the state.

Reacting to an online publication aimed at demarketing the good intentions of the move, The DG, PMMO wrote;

"This is an unfair assessment. Several attempts to patch these roads have been sabotaged by Mother Nature. Any attempt to patch with Asphalt will be washed away by the rain. The concrete is a palliative measure till the rainy season abets. The Governor is deeply moved, and will do whatever it takes to make sure these roads are done in an orderly and cost saving fashion."
