GOV. KEFAS ORDER PAYMENTS OF ONE BILLION NAIRA GRATITUDE TO PENSIONERS IN THE STATE

Taraba state governor has spent one billion naira to pay gratitude in the state.

Governor of Taraba state, Dr Agbu Kefas, has approved the sum of one billion naira for the payment of gratuity backlog.

The last time any payments were made was in 2011.

Governor Kefas, while signing the approval, directed the ministry of finance to ensure immediate payments of the overdue entitlements. He regretted the delays and said his government would not abandon workers who had served their fatherland diligently.

Apart from the initial one billion naira, the governor also approved that a sum of 200 million be set aside each month to offset the backlog and continue the payments.

This was made known by the Special Adviser Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello.

It would be recalled that Dr Agbu Kefas, during the campaign, promised to offset pensions and gratuity in spite of the huge backlog. The governor noted that it is unrighteous to deny workers who have slaved over the years their entitlements. He noted that his government will continue to service and make prompt payments of salaries, pension payments, and gratuities.

Assuring pensioners of Governor Kefas goodwill, the Permanent Secretary, Pensions, Mrs Rose Garba Ajiya, said the gesture will effectively end many years of anguish and frustration of aged pensioners. She said herself and her team are well prepared to begin payments as all records are available and accurately kept.

DON'T CURSE NIGERIA. CHANGE BAD LEADERS IN NEXT ELECTION ...TINUBU URGES NIGERIANS

President Bola Tinubu has charged religious leaders against condemning Nigeria during their sermons.

He spoke on Thursday, March 28, during Ramadan with traditional rulers and religious leaders at the State House in Abuja.

Tinubu said if a leader is bad, he should be voted out in the next election.

"The love of the nation is in your hands. Pray for our country. Educate our children. The sermons we preach to the members of our churches and mosques are important.

"Do not condemn your own nation. As a Yoruba man and as our fathers will say, ‘no matter how slippery the bottom of your child is, you must leave the beads there.’

"Leave the beads there. This is your country; do not condemn it in sermons, do not abuse the nation. Leadership is meant for changes.

”Yes, this leader is bad, fine. Wait until the next election to change him, but do not condemn your country. Do not curse Nigeria. This is a beautiful land."

PRESIDENT TINUBU TO NEWSPAPERS; I’ll
APOLOGIZE LATER

On 29th of March every year marks the birthday of Bola Ahmed Tinubu the current Nigeria president. In the past, the day had always been celebrated in elaborate and flamboyant way, With series of lectures and colloquium across the country.

Since 2021the eventful day has been celebrated in low key and the former Leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC asking for prayers for the country rather than pumping champagne. His reasons ranging from, honoring of the victims of Kaduna train attack in 2022 and on his 71st birthday as President - elect, he also opted for prayers for the country instead.

In all of this low key celebration, the media community had not been hit this much as the President recently announced cancellation for elaborate birthday including placement of advertorials on all media platforms. He advised that such money, rather giving to orphanages or old people’s homes.

This was made known by Special Adviser to President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga the statement read in apart, President Tinubu explained further today why he cancelled any elaborate birthday for himself on 29 March. He restated that such ceremony will be out of tune with the national mood. Besides, he didn’t want government agencies to use public money to place congratulatory adverts for him. He restated that he would rather want well wishers give the money to orphanages or old people’s homes. He acknowledged that newspapers who were expecting to make money may have been hurt. “I know they will be angry with me. But I will apologize to them later”, he said.

PRESIDENT TINUBU TO REVIEW LIST OF AMBASSADORIAL NOMINEES

Months after receiving the names of some ambassadorial nominees, President Bola Tinubu has yet to draw up a consolidated list of diplomats who will serve as Nigeria’s envoys to various countries and multilateral organisations.

This is as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has since collated and forwarded the names of prospective diplomats to the President for consideration.

“We have collated everything on our part and forwarded it to Mr. President,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, confirmed to our correspondent before Monday’s Federal Executive Council meeting.

According to the Punch, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, confirmed to our correspondent that such nominations must pass through a thorough process before a final list is released.

Onanuga debunked a list making the rounds, describing it as “fake news.”

“There is no official list as of today. There is a list in circulation. That is fake news. The foreign affairs list will still go through certain processes before it is released.

“Don’t forget that the ambassadorial list has two components. There are career ambassadors and political ambassadors. So, whichever one they submitted, it will still go through a long process.”

In November 2023, a senior official in the ministry said “Names of new ambassadors are being compiled.”

Although it was not clear if the nominees were political or career diplomats, feelers indicate that they primarily comprise the latter.

It is believed that while career diplomats are determined by their career progression, as recommended by the foreign service, political diplomats are often appointees of the President.

PDP knocks Otti over repeal of governors, deputies pension law

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia chapter, has tackled Governor Alex Otti for repealing the governors and deputies pension law.

According to the party, Otti has resorted to populism to draw undeserved attention to himself.

In a statement by the Vice Chairman/acting State Publicity Secretary (PDP), Abraham Amah, said it was wrong for Governor Otti to have said that he repealed a law he never obeyed since he assumed office as Governor.

“Since the news made its debut, all the former governors, through their spokespersons, have come out to disclaim having received any pension from the state governor since he assumed office. So, it beats our understanding why a governor, who has not paid pension to his predecessors, would quickly rush to repeal the law, if not to massage his little ego and portray himself as a patron Saint when he is not.”

The release said Abia PDP had reasons to believe that Otti was using his office to pursue personal vendetta against the former governors, as shown in this singular act, which the party said has not added any value to the Abia treasury.

“Let us assume that the said pension law and some of its letters are outrageous as it is being portrayed in the public to buy cheap popularity, there is no evidence that the money saved from the non-payment of pension to former governors has been used to offset the pension arrears of Abia pensioners, because many civil servants are still being owed.

“So, what is the whole hullabaloo about the repeal of the pension law if not to shore up a popularity which many Abians have come to see as empty and an enterprise on the pages of newspapers and social media.”

The party regretted that it has become a penchant for the governor to go “into overdrive in his quest for vendetta and this has been displayed in reckless ways that do not even add any political value to his person.”

‘I’ll defeat political harlots’ – Wike boasts in Rivers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said he will continue to defeat political harlots in Rivers State.

Wike spoke in Port Harcourt during a special Thanksgiving organised by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, to mark his birthday and his new position in the National Assembly.

Wike recalled that Chinda would have been his successor in 2023 because he was one of the best but he came under pressure.

According to Wike: “Pressure came on me at a time when we wanted someone who would succeed me. One of the very best I would have presented would have been Kingsley Chinda, not those Ikwerre people who were running around saying they wanted to be governor, that they could not serve a master and boy.

“But they are waiting on the road now to serve the boy. No real Ikwerre man says that and goes back. Chinda had told you not to bother yourself. In Ikwerre tradition, when you start beating the drum of wrestling, it is not at that time that the real wrestlers will come out.

“The real wrestlers will come in later, towards the end. Leave all these people who cannot stand ordinary hunger. Leave these political harlots; I will continue to defeat them. What you know, you know.”

WHAT THE RENEWED HOPE INFRASTRUCTURE FUND MEANS

Nigeria needs $35 billion yearly, up till 2040, to cover its infrastructure expenditure.

President Muhammadu Buhari, realising that the government could not meet this huge cost, established the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF), with National Sovereign Wealth Authority, playing a vital role.

The PIDF helped in the realisation of critical projects, such as the Second Niger Bridge and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

But the PIDF faced funding constraints, delays in project ex*****on, leading to rising costs of materials, bureaucratic and institutional challenges.

Enter the RHIDF

These challenges are what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF) seeks to overcome.

It was unanimously approved on Monday 25 March by the Federal Executive Council.

As conceived, it is a game-changing, innovative and transformative Fund that will drive economic growth in road, rail construction, agriculture, aviation, education, health, energy and technology.

It will provide the elixir for critical national projects that will accelerate infrastructure and economic development in all parts of the country.

With eyes on raising N20 Trillion, about $14 billion take-off capital, the Fund will support projects that will promote growth, "enhance local value-addition through backward, forward and parallel linkages."

Employment opportunities also will be created and exports promoted.

For instance, a core focus of the Fund will be to enhance agricultural value chain to boost food security.

By fortifying agricultural infrastructure, the Fund will ensure that post-harvest losses are reduced and food supply chains strengthened.

Among the projects being targeted are major road networks, such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway, Sokoto-Badagry Expressway, Lagos-Kano and Eastern Rail Lines. Ports and aviation facilities will be modernized.

NLC FORMED LABOUR PARTY TO PROMOTE INTERESTS OF WORKERS, PENSIONERS — AYUBA WABBA

A former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba said the Labour Party was formed to promote the interests of the Nigerian workers and pensioners.

Wabba stated this in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

According to him, the Labour Party was formed by the NLC as a platform for members of the union to exercise and defend their rights.

This was contrary to claims by the embattled LP Chairman, Julius Abure, that the party is not answerable to the Congress.

Wabba said, “First and foremost, the Labour Party was formed by the NLC, in the realisation of a clear objective in the Constitution of the NLC.

“Under Article 3 and Item 1, the major objective of the NLC is to promote, defend and advance the economic, political, and social rights and well-being of Nigerian workers and pensioners.

“We own the Labour Party; it was formed under the leadership of Pascal Bafyau, as Party for Social Democracy. Under Adams, organs decided to change the name to the Labour Party, and the first Chairman was S.O.Z Ejiofor who later handed over to Dan Anyanwu.

“So, the essence of forming the party is to make sure that workers, pensioners, farmers, can be able to have a platform to exercise their rights, which is enshrined in Section 40 of the Constitution.

“The party was formed by NLC, and registered by NLC. It’s like you built a house, you got a C-of-O, then you rented the apartment, so you must have an interest in how the property is managed.”

Recall that on Wednesday, members of the NLC stormed the party’s national secretariat, to protest the LP’s national convention planned for the end of the month.

The protesting NLC members also demanded the sacking of Abure as the party’s Chairman.
