Interesting.....
Chimara felt her heart shatter as Luma's desperate pleas echoed in the still, summer air. "Please, Chimara, don't go. Stay here with me, with my family. We can make this work."
His voice was laced with a raw vulnerability that tugged at her very soul. But she had to be strong, for both their sakes. Clasping his calloused hands in her own, she forced herself to meet his gaze, tears brimming in her eyes.
"I... I can't, Luma. Not this time." The words were like shards of glass, cutting through the delicate fabric of their love. "After Mama and Papa's passing, I have to go. I can't keep depending on your family's kindness. It wouldn't be right."
Luma's brow furrowed, his expression a mix of anguish and stubborn resolve. "But I love you, Chimara. We're meant to be together. This isn't the end, I know it."
She squeezed his hands, willing him to understand. "Perhaps we are my love but right now, I need to find my own way, to stand on my own two feet. I can't let this be borne out of pity or obligation."
A lone tear escaped, cascading down her cheek. "I'll always cherish the time we had. But you have to let me go, Luma. For both our sakes."
His grip tightened, as if he could will her to stay through sheer force of will. "I can't, Chimara. I won't." His voice cracked, betraying the depth of his emotions.
Chimara leaned in, pressing a trembling kiss to his lips, committing the taste and feel of him to memory. "Goodbye, my love." With that, she turned and walked away, each step feeling like a knife to her heart.
Luma watched her go, his world crumbling around him but deep within, a spark of hope flickered. This was not the end. Fate had brought them together once before, and he knew, with every fiber of his being, that it would do so again.
