So when you feel discouraged, supplicate Jehovah for his support. He will help you to deal with your imperfections, weaknesses, or illness. He will help you to keep a balanced view of assignments of service. And he will help you to have a positive view of your ministry.

A good family head knows that one of the most difficult things he must do is make wise decisions for his family, and he takes that responsibility seriously. He tries to avoid making decisions that are arbitrary or that are based purely on emotion. Instead, he allows Jehovah to train him. Prov. 2:6, 7. That way, he will think of benefiting others, not himself. Phil. 2:4

DENNIS CHRISTENSEN RELEASED FROM PRISON
May 24, 2022 Kursk Region; Oryol Region
On May 24, 2022, Dennis Christensen was released from prison. For his faith, he spent a total of 5 years behind bars.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CASE

Dennis Christensen, a Dane, lived in the city of Orel, married to a Russian, worked as a carpenter, a believer… On a May day in 2017, riot police, led by FSB officers, invaded the worship building of Jehovah's Witnesses. The believer is handcuffed and accused of organizing the activities of a religious organization banned by the court. The accusation is based on the testimony of a secret witness (theologian Oleg Kurdyumov from a local university), who, using special equipment issued by the FSB, kept hidden audio and video recordings of conversations with Christensen about faith, after which he gave the recordings to investigators. There are no extremist statements or victims in the case. In 2019, the court sentenced Christensen to 6 years in prison. After spending more than half of his term in the colony of the city of Lgov, Christensen asked to mitigate the remaining punishment for him. The court granted it, but the very next day the prosecutor's office appealed the decision, and the prison administration threw the believer into a punishment cell on trumped-up charges. The believer developed illnesses that prevented him from working in prison production. On May 24, 2022, Christensen was released after serving his sentence.

(narrated in a refugee center in Poland) 🤝.
Several sisters in the war zone could not decide to evacuate for a long time. And finally, they agreed to leave with the other sisters on our brother's bus, having hastily packed their things. On the way, they saw the horrors of war and realized that they did not understand the whole horror of what was happening at all. So, they drove up to the Russian checkpoint and a very drunk military man entered their bus and began to search things.

And in the first bag that came to hand, he took out a poster on which the daily text with the name of Jehovah was written in large letters. The military man took out this poster, sat down and began to read this poster loudly... And after that he began to cry.... 😭 He said that his wife and children are also Jehovah's Witnesses and added "but here I killed too many innocent people "Your God Jehovah will not forgive me! But I will do at least one good deed. I will save you!" He told them to give his last name at the next checkpoint.

Having gone to the next checkpoint, they even saw the corpses of people along the way ... There was a huge queue at the next checkpoint, the military carefully inspected things and could even shoot suspicious people ... Brother, the bus driver, approached the military man and called the name of the military man at the previous checkpoint. And they were let through right away... Later, when they had already left for the safe zone, they began to find out on the bus whose bag it was and why someone took this poster. And one sister admitted that it was she who taught the children to write, and together they rewrote the daily text in capital letters.... And in a hurry, she accidentally took this poster.... Which probably saved their lives.... 👏

UKRAINE AND POLAND

“Stay Focused on Your Relationship With Jehovah”

Special Program Strengthens Brothers in Ukraine and Poland

On April 26, 2022, Brother Mark Sanderson, a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses, arrived in Poland to spiritually encourage the brothers and sisters affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

All congregations in Poland and Ukraine were invited to a special program held on April 30, 2022. In Poland, Ukrainian refugees and those involved in the disaster relief work were among those invited to view the program in person at the Assembly Hall in Warsaw. Including those connected via videoconferencing, an estimated audience of over 250,000 in Poland and Ukraine attended the program.

“Brothers and sisters all over the world are thinking about you and praying on your behalf,” Brother Sanderson said. “At world headquarters, prayers are offered every day for the brothers in Russia and Ukraine, including prayers said at Governing Body meetings.” He assured the audience that “difficulties do not mean loss of Jehovah’s blessing. He sees you, loves you, and is especially close to those in distress.”

Brother Sanderson continued: “Stay focused on your relationship with Jehovah. Our goal is not just to survive, but we want to come out of these difficulties with stronger faith and feeling closer to Jehovah. That is what Jehovah is teaching us.”

Serhiy, an elder in Odessa, Ukraine, said: “Over the past few weeks, the feeling of anxiety, loss, and uncertainty has practically taken away my sleep. However, [the special program] bolstered my conviction that Jehovah cares not only about his people as a whole but also about us as individuals.”

Tatiana, a refugee sister from Kyiv, Ukraine, related: “Today, I’ve really felt how close Jehovah is to me. Jehovah hugs me and fills me with his love. Wherever we are, Jehovah is always with us.”

We dearly love our brothers and sisters, and we are confident that the special program reinforced in them Jehovah’s “loyal love” for his people.—Psalm 136:1.

Brotherly Love Prevails Amid Ongoing Crisis in Ukraine

Sadly, more of our dear brothers and sisters have lost their lives as a result of the ongoing warfare in Ukraine. A total of 28 of Jehovah’s Witnesses have died.

As reported in international news, towns near Kyiv experienced especially heavy fighting during the first weeks of the war. Of the approximately 4,900 publishers who lived in this region, more than 3,500 of them have now fled to safer areas.

The following experiences demonstrate how our brothers in these areas are maintaining unshakable faith in the face of extraordinary trials.

Oleksandr, an elder from the town of Makariv, fled to a safer area in central Ukraine. However, out of concern for four publishers in his field service group who could not be contacted, he returned to the war zone to find them. He related: “I understood that to Jehovah, his worshippers are most valuable. . . . When I arrived at the yard of one of the publishers, I saw that it had been hit by bombs. The door to the cellar of the house was closed, and nobody responded to my calls. This scared me.” Oleksandr broke through the door to the cellar and found a group of people staring back at him. He had found the publishers, as well as their non-Witness neighbors sheltering with them.

One of the publishers in the cellar, Yaroslav, explained that they had sheltered in the cellar for eight days. He recounted: “We had only some biscuits and a glass of water a day per person. But we read the Bible and our publications, prayed, and encouraged one another. When I heard Oleksandr call my name, I thought soldiers had come to take me away. I thought I was going to die. . . . [Instead,] he rescued all of us. We are thankful to Jehovah for such a loving spiritual family, with people who pray for us and even risk their lives to rescue us.”

Pylyp and another brother decided to bring food to those who stayed in the town of Borodianka. On March 17, while driving to the town, soldiers commandeered Pylyp’s car and took the food. Then the soldiers arrested both brothers, handcuffed and blindfolded them, and brought them to a small room in a basement with seven other men. Two days later, they were moved to a cell where the guards physically assaulted them during the night. Pylyp said: “I was not sure if I would survive. I prayed to remain loyal.”

During one beating, Pylyp started praying aloud for the elderly sisters who were without food, for the safety of his family, and he thanked Jehovah for his years of happy service to Him. The guard returned him to his cell, where he continued praying for the soldiers to understand that the brothers were not dangerous. Both brothers began witnessing to the guards. For two days, they preached to every shift of guards. Additionally, one of the imprisoned men showed interest in the Bible’s message. He thanked the brothers. On March 27, the brothers and the man who showed interest were freed.

Svitlana, a single sister from Bucha, could not escape the war zone for two weeks. She related: “As never before, I understand the importance of the peace Jehovah gives. Having the peace of God does not imply that we always know what to do. But when we do not see a way out of a situation, we fully rely on Jehovah.”

While traveling to a safer area of Ukraine, Svitlana witnessed to a woman and her nephew. They all arrived at a safer area and were greeted by a Witness family. The Witness family accommodated Svitlana as well as the woman and her nephew for the night. The next day, the woman asked to attend a congregation meeting and requested a Bible and our literature. Svitlana continues to keep in contact with her.

As of April 12, 2022, the following totals have been reported from Ukraine. These statistics are based on confirmed reports from the local brothers. However, the actual numbers may be higher, since it is difficult to maintain communication with all regions of the country.
