Museum of Local Lore
• • •
The Fergana regional museum of local lore is one of Uzbekistan's oldest museums. The agricultural and industrial exhibition that took place in 1894 in the city of New Margelan, now Fergan, was the impetus for the establishment of this museum. Originally, four rooms on the top floor of the governor's house were designated for the museum. The museum's exposition at the time consisted of a portion of a collection from an exhibition as well as objects donated to the museum by various individuals. However, in its first two years of operation, the museum had amassed approximately 1200 objects and books by 1897.

Bukhara has been found situated along the famous Silk Road trade centre and it is known as one of the most complete medieval cities in Central Asia. The holiest city consists of monuments including the famous tomb of Ismail Samani which is a masterpiece in the 10th century, on top of large numbers of Madrassah in the 17th century.

The city lies on the Shakhrud Canal in the delta of the Zeravshan River, at the centre of Bukhara oasis and the city owed its prosperity to the rich oasis, before Arab conquered Bukhara. However, the great economic growth came to an end when the city fell into the hands of Genghis Khan in 1220 and later to Timur Tamerlane in 1370.
