“To deal with the bright magenta tint of everything in front of the green screen, the Netflix researchers employed a “machine learning colorization technique” which is trained on additional footage of the foreground subject filmed under traditional white lighting so the AI model knows how everything is supposed to look and how to remove the tint, after the fact.

Besides potentially being faster with more accurate results, the new technique has another big advantage: it doesn’t limit what the on-screen talent can wear. In the test footage, a performer is seen wearing a green dress and holding a green glass bottle and neither disappear when the green backdrop is replaced.”

Magenta Green Screen is a new approach to visual effects that takes advantage of digital cameras' peculiar blind spots.

According to the development team, “it was critical to make the Hyperdolly suitable for use on uneven surfaces such as imperfect asphalt, paving stones, etc., therefore the Hyperdolly is equipped with large wheels, a powerful motor, and braking function during stop between shots, so dolly system can shoot hyperlapses even while moving upwards”. Going completely off-road though is still better suited for proper off-road remote-control cars (but this requires quite a bit of skill to control).

The Hyperdolly can be used with a camera mounted directly to the unit or with a tripod. The Hyperdolly supports a wide variety of tripods and the brackets are equipped with rubber inserts to secure the tripod to the dolly, there are also holes for spikes.

The Hyperdolly is said to have a smooth running, speed that ranges from 0.9 – 9 cm/s and it can carry gear up to 11 kg/24 lb. It can be used in timelpase/hyperlapse mode with most existing cameras and uses a Sony NP-F battery for power, and it will come in a large hard case for travel.

Hyperdolly is currently raising money on Indiegogo, going for $1260 with availability slated for early 2023.

What is new in LRTimelapse 6?

"The biggest one of all is the option to edit photos and sequences without Lightroom at all. There is a new panel that allows you to edit your RAW sequences from within LRTimelapse. This still uses the Adobe RAW engine in the backend, but it’s very cool to be able to do this.

Another big one is the fact that you can render from within LRTimelapse without needing Lightroom!

This is huge! It uses JPEGs as intermediary files which might introduce banding in your sky as you can see here, so for the highest possible quality, you’ll still want to go with the normal workflows however this is a really, really big development as it can now work as a standalone application for timelapse editing.

If you want to quickly render a sequence for example you can now use just LRTimelapse without having to open Lightroom as well.

You can now modify and store your export presets! You don’t have to edit them on every export anymore which will save you some time."

Vinten has introduced the new FHR-155E Weatherproof Heavy-Payload Robotic Pan and Tilt Head. It has been designed to support full-size broadcast cameras and lenses as remote-controlled robotic devices for use in outdoor locations.

It has been designed to military specification for use in desert conditions, the IP65 rated FHR-155E is insulated against extreme temperatures with an operating range of 4°C to 50°C, It also features a remote-controlled wiper with an optional jet wash. The weatherproof camera enclosure is pressurized to prevent any dust from being drawn into the enclosure and is available with an optional Cooler Module that is independently regulated by an internal thermostatic control to maintain a constant optimum operating temperature.

With IP network connectivity, camera operators can create smooth pan-and-tilt movements remotely using the familiar Vinten HD-VRC control system used in studio robotics. The FHR-155E features a pan range of 359° and a tilt range of ±30° (±179° with extended cradle arm) and is designed to be near-silent when in motion.
