🔥📍 Annual Keretapi Sarong event wins Best Asean Cultural Preservation Effort 2025 award.

• Keretapi Sarong is an annual event held on Malaysia Day, where thousands of participants wearing sarong and traditional attires gather at a secret location usually disclosed only on the day itself.

• On the day of the event, participants gather at selected train stations and take part in singalongs or other fun activities along the journey to the secret location. In 2024, the event drew a record 25,250 participants.

• Keretapi Sarong director and Locco co-founder Shamsul Bahrin said the recognition reflects Malaysians' collective spirit and love for cultural heritage.

• “Preserving culture is not just about remembering the past but ensuring that future generations inherit a legacy they can take pride in,” Shamsul said.

📍 Severe fly infestation at Kampung Ladang Batu in Selangor has been disrupting daily lives of residents for the past three years.

• For three years, approximately 500 residents of Kampung Ladang Batu, Tanjong Sepat in Selangor have been enduring thousands of flies invading their homes, disrupting daily activities like eating, sleeping, and even performing prayers.

• Residents allege the problem originates from a nearby poultry farm and have reported the issue to authorities, but no significant action has been taken to resolve the problem.

• Residents have resorted to using 10–15 A4-sized fly traps daily, which cost RM10 each, and plastic bottles cut in half with tomato sauce as traps.

• The flies are suspected to cause illnesses like food poisoning, while local businesses suffer as customers are deterred by the overwhelming presence of flies.

• “We feel embarrassed to invite family, relatives, and friends over for Raya, let alone host an open house because the house is filled with flies,” said one resident.

📍 The KK Mart outlet in Universiti Malaya was splashed with red paint amidst the chicken ham sandwich controversy.

• The Universiti Malaya Association of New Youth (Umany) has urged the varsity's administration to probe the incident and called for the installation of more surveillance cameras and more patrols.

• The UM KK Mart outlet was recently embroiled in a controversy over the sale of chicken ham sandwiches, which allegedly misused halal logos. The chain has since suspended all business dealing with the sandwich supplier.

• “While it remains unclear whether this act of vandalism is related to that controversy, if anyone wishes to protest against KK Mart, such extreme actions are not an appropriate means of expression," Umany president Lim Jing Jet said.
