Wine, Cheese & Tapas at Bacchus Wine Bar 🍷 🧀

Congrats to Bacchae Wine Bar who just completed one year here in Merida.

Owner Enoch, from Puebla but lived in Chicago for 30 years, opened here in Merida after retiring from the restaurants business from the US. He’s a sommelier and worked in some of the top restaurants in Chicago. His dream was always to come back to Mexico and start his own wine bar and now he has done that!

He has wine from around the world; however is particularly proud of the Mexican wine selection. At Bacchus you get a lovely experience where Enoch greets you and gives you two wines to taste and bread with a creamy garlic sauce. He explains to origen and intricacies of the wine and then you get the menu and choose what you’d like.

Off the food menu they gave charcuterie boards with imported cheese from Italy, The Netherlands and Mexico as well as fruit, dried meats and different accompanying sauces such as habanero honey and an apple cinnamon purée. They also offer tapas and different pasta dishes. It’s Mediterranean inspired.

We live Bacchus it’s a chill and super friendly vibe. Great service and the wines and cheeses are perfect.

Cuerno de Toro Gastropub

One of Merida’s great microbreweries Cuerno de Toro has a gastropub in Colonia México and we stopped by the other day to taste their newest beer on tap and try their awesome cuisine.

The place is super cool with a pub vibe. We tried the sampler of brews that included:
🍺 Mr. Fahrenheit Berrie Pale Ale
🍺 Bombay IPA
🍺 Tormento Stout
🍺 Ta**us Peanut Stout

All were very flavorful and full bodied, my favorite was the IPA

PROVOLONE SIKIL HUMMUS (⭐️Favorite!)
Smoked provolone cheese bites from the ranch with Valladolid sausage, accompanied by a fusion of traditional sikil pak and Arabic hummus.
Topped with sun-dried tomatoes, olive oil, a mix of sprouts, and tortilla salt.

PATAGONIAN BRUSCHETTAS (3 pcs)
Slices of sourdough bread topped with roasted garlic purée, ember-roasted vegetables, and Argentine chorizo cracklings.
Topped with homemade chimichurri.

TRILOGY OF POLCANES
Three pieces of nixtamalized dough filled with:
Oven-roasted suckling pig
Adobo-marinated pork belly
Pork belly in recado negro

SHORT RIB with Melted Cheese
200 grams of grilled Angus short rib covered with melted cheese and Spanish sausages.
Served with yuca purée and ranch salad.

🌳 June 14th - July 14th: Help Merida Plant More Trees! 🌳

Mérida is in dire need of more trees and vegetation, especially with temperatures reaching over 45 degrees Celsius. Join the 2024 Forest Crusade, now in its 11th edition, and help us plant 8,500 trees this year! Since 2014, we've planted 107,253 trees, and we're aiming for 150,000 by 2024.

🗓️ When to Participate?
From June 14th to July 14th on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The official launch is on June 14th at the South Sports Unit "Henry Martín."

🌱 Why Participate?
Having more greenery in the city is not only great for our physical and mental health but also benefits the environment by cleaning the air and combating climate change.

🌿 Get Involved!
We expect around 4,000 participants this summer with 18 planting events scheduled. At each event, 450 trees will be planted. You can be a part of this wonderful initiative!

As violence spread through the country and civil war erupted, Kayongo and his family became refugees in Kenya.
