They say you never really know someone until you marry them, and that’s especially true in this case. A man in Indonesia discovered that his ‘wife’ of 12 days was actually a man attempting to scam him and his family. The 26-year-old man, identified as ‘AK,’ met Adinda Kanza, also 26, on social media in 2023. They dated for a year, during which AK was led to believe that Adinda was a devout Muslim, which is why her face was always covered. He also believed Adinda was an orphan, having no family to attend their wedding.

The pair married, and only then did AK and his family begin to get suspicious. The marriage was never consummated, with Adinda citing menstruation and ‘Not tonight darling, I’ve got a headache.’ She also wore her niqab at all times, even when at home with her husband.

AK began investigating, eventually meeting Adinda’s ‘dead’ parents, who informed him that his wife was actually their son. (As if meeting the in-laws isn’t awkward enough.) Further investigation revealed that ‘Adinda’ had been dressing as a woman since 2020, and that he intended to steal his new family’s assets. He was arrested and taken into police custody on fraud charges. He faces up to four years in prison if convicted, not to mention an acrimonious divorce.
