On Saturday 15th February, YISCO's department of Monitoring and Evaluation conducted a Vulnerability Capacity Assessment (VCA) at GVH Somanje- Makata in Ndirande, Blantyre with the presence of the Village Development Committee (VDC).

The VCA activity with the community's representatives was marked to establish major problems affecting the village.

After identifying the root problem, the VDC hailed YISCO for its budding Climate Change Adaptation Awareness Project (CCAAP) which they believe will address a number of critical things in their areas.

Speaking after the meeting, the chairman of Somanje- Makata VDC applauded the organisation for standing up to give back to the community and further pleaded with YISCO to sustain their projects.

In his remarks regarding the activity, YISCO Executive Director, Wellington Khola gave credits to GVH Somanje- Makata for permitting operations of the organisation in the area.

According to the M&E Officer, Amos Manyesa who facilitated the activity, the training went as planned and that the community volunteers are ready to bring the change in their prospective villages.

"We trained them in various disciplines, ranging from climate change to waste management so that they understand the project we are currently implementing in Ndirande Township. We believe that, our community based volunteers will play a great role in transforming villages as they pose as a bridge that connects YISCO to the people," he said.

The newly trained volunteers were also highlighted on why it is important to take part in voluntary works.
