President Boakai Concludes a Highly Successful Visit to Seoul, South Korea, As He Returns Home with Exciting News

June 8, 2024

His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., is happy to return to Liberia after an extraordinarily successful weeklong visit to Seoul, South Korea.

The President was invited to the Republic of Korea by the Korean leader, President Yoon Suk Yeol, to attend the inaugural edition of the Korea-Africa Summit held from June 4-5, 2024.

The Summit brought together Heads of State from Africa, high-level business leaders, the President and members of Korean Government, and many others.

Upon President Boakai’s arrival in Korea after more than thirty hours of travel, he participated in a business summit on Liberia and later engaged in a reception hosted by the Korean Leader. Following these events, the Liberian leader addressed the plenary of the Korea-Africa Summit and held bilateral meetings with his counterparts and several business meetings.

The President also participated in a business and investment forum with Korean investors and delivered an inspiring address on food and mineral security.

On Thursday, June 6, the President engaged with the Liberian Community, reassuring them of his unwavering interest and commitment to rebuilding the country they would be proud to call home.

The Liberian leader concluded his visit with another impactful Business Forum that resulted in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding focused on agriculture, infrastructure, energy, water, etc.

The President expressed profound gratitude to his counterpart, President Yeol and members of the Korean government, and the business community for the exceptional support they provided his team during the weeklong visit. He looks forward to continued engagement and follow-ups.

President Boakai and his delegation will return to Liberia today, Saturday, June 8, 2024.

The University of Liberia to Suspend Classes For Inter-College Sports Tournament

Monrovia, Liberia, June 5, 2024 | The Administration of the University of Liberia (UL) informs all students, members of faculty, staff, and the public that classes will be suspended on all UL campuses from Thursday, June 6, 2024, to Friday, June 7, 2024.

The suspension of classes is intended for a two-day Inter-College Sports Tournament and the grand opening of the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) Lounge. The suspension of classes only applies to the Undergraduate Colleges, including the David A. Straz-Sinje Technical and Vocational College.

All deans, chairpersons, and students of the University of Liberia are encouraged to form part of the Inter-College Sports Tournament and show support for their various colleges.

The Inter-College Sports Tournament is scheduled for the 6th and 7th of June 2024, at the Fendall Campus of the University of Liberia in Louisiana. Sporting activities are expected to kick off at 9:00 AM daily. Games include Football, Basketball, Kickball, Volleyball and a showcase performances of some intellectual sports.

The University of Liberia is also inviting everyone to the grand opening of ULFA Lounge on Friday, June 7. 2024, on Capitol Hill Campus at 12:00 noon.

The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) is pleased to announce that the Authority will award scholarships to six female students to attend the Regional Maritime University in Accra, Ghana for BSc. Degree study in the following disciplines:
1.Marine Engineering (M E)
2.Marine Electrical Engineering (M E E)
3.Nautical Science (N S)
4.Port and Shipping Administration (P S A)

Interested individuals MUST meet the following requirements:

a)Not more than 25 years of age
b)Have an average of 85% or above in (Math, Physics, Chemistry and Geography)
c)WAEC/WASSCE Certificate with Division I and II or an aggregate average below 24

Liberia Returnees From The Budumbura Refugee Camp Busted With Drugs - Col. Kromah Dispatches Agents To Ghana

Amidst the force repatriation of Liberians who once lived on the Bundumbura refugee camp in Ghana, caution is being made to alert them of possible arrest and prosecution for bringing drugs to Liberia as some were arrested bringing huge quantities of drugs during the course of the week.

Capped with intelligence, (LDEA) agent were put in to action following the entry of the buses on the Liberian soil enroute from Ghana apprehending several suspects who will be forwarded to court for prosecution following the in house pre- trial investigation.

Col. Kromah addressing journalists in Monrovia, reechoed his determination in arresting and prosecuting would be Liberians and foreigners alike culpable of both national and trans- national drugs trade in Liberia. At such, he vowed to leave no stone unturned in articulating and implementing the vision of President Joseph N. Boakai in mitigating drugs use and proliferation in Liberia.

As a result of the alarming information and embarrassment to the local and International partners, it has been agreed to have some LDEA agents covertly infused among the repatriating refugees as a first phase mechanism in stoping would be carriers even before entry into Liberia. This should serve as cautionary note that those coming back to Liberia with the evil intent of fermenting trouble through drugs are poised to be arrested and prosecuted with a long jail time since the present drugs law is not billable. If one is convicted, he or she could spend up to fifteen years in jail.

Meanwhile, Col. Kromah left the country yesterday to attend an anti- money laundering conference in Daker, Senegal, where strategic actors and stakeholders will gauge the ways forward in curbing the issue of money laundering, that is often used in the commission of crimes, especially, drugs and terriorism.
