Concerns Rise Over Statements and Leaked Chat Screenshots in Liberia's Election Season

As Liberia gears up for the upcoming elections, a statement made by former Vice President and current political leader of the Unity Party, Joseph Boakai, has sparked significant concerns and ignited discussions about the nation's peace and stability.

During one of his campaign rallies in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, Boakai made a statement that some have interpreted as a veiled threat, suggesting the potential for unrest should he not emerge victorious in the election. His words have raised eyebrows and generated a sense of unease across the country.

The gravity of Boakai's statement has been magnified by the emergence of leaked chat screenshots allegedly from top Unity Party executives. These screenshots purportedly reveal discussions about the acquisition of weaponry intended for use during the election period.

These developments have prompted serious concerns among the Liberian populace, leading to questions about the implications of such statements and the authenticity of the leaked chat conversations. In a time when the nation should be focused on peaceful and democratic elections, these unsettling incidents have added an air of uncertainty to the political landscape.

As Liberia approaches this critical juncture, it becomes imperative for all stakeholders, including political leaders, to prioritize the peace, stability, and democratic values of the nation. The allegations and statements made must be thoroughly investigated and addressed to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.

The coming days and weeks will likely see increased scrutiny and dialogue surrounding these issues as the nation navigates its path towards the elections. The hopes of many are pinned on a peaceful and democratic outcome, and it is essential for all to work collectively to uphold Liberia's democratic principles.

Ministry of Health Warns Against Eating of a Dead Whale Floating On the Beach in Duazon, Margibi County

MOH-September 22,2023: The Ministry of Health is warning against the harvesting and eating of a giant whale floating along the Beach in the Palm Bush community, Duazon, adjacent the Silver Beach.
In a statement issued in Monrovia, the Ministry of Health called on the general public to stop the eating of the dead whale, or any dead animals, without knowing the cause of death.

Feeding on a dead fish or animal without knowing the cause of death could be extremely harmful to the population involved. These are ways in which diseases are spread from one person to another, and could lead to an epidemic.

The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National Public Health Institute of Liberia has dispatched a team of surveillance officers to conduct an investigation, to establish the cause of death of the whale.

Consuming dead whale meat and blubber can cause botulism – which causes serious symptoms like vomiting, difficulty swallowing, partial facial paralysis, and more,in humans.
Additionally, marine mammal meat may contain high levels of heavy metals and toxins.

The Government of Liberia reassures the public of its determination to keep the public safe through its active surveillance system, amidst global emerging disease outbreaks.
