A former CARICOM Ambassador to Haiti says it will take a concerted effort by the international community to resolve the crises that continue to destabilize Haiti. Mr. Earl Huntley applauds efforts by CARICOM to find diplomatic solutions to the situation in the country. The CARICOM Eminent Persons Group recently made an in-person visit to Haiti as a follow-up to previous virtual meetings with the Presidential Council, the Prime Minister and various Haitian sector leaders.

Prime Minister, Philip J Pierre, and his Cabinet Of Ministers gave eleven million E.C dollars to the Millennium Heights Medical Complex on Friday. The funds were presented after the MHMC Board met with the government to discuss the financial needs of the medical complex.

Disgruntled customers gathered outside Nathanial’s Bookstore near Central Bakery in Castries after not being able to purchase school books. They say that they were given a date to return to purchase the school books but were met with closed doors and what they allege is bad attitudes from staff. However, the business owners assert this is simply not the case.

The Iyanola Council for the Advancement of Rastafari is renewing its calls for the payment of reparations to descendants of slavery. The call coincides with the observance of International Day for Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition.
The Day is intended to remind the world of the tragedy of the slave trade its causes, and consequences. Proponents of reparations believe it will restore descendants of slaves to the economic position they would have had they not been subjected to slavery

The St Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association says planned layoffs by some of its members are part of regular exercise by hotels to facilitate renovations of properties. The organization has made it clear that the planned layoffs are in no way connected to recent rumors of planned layoffs in protest to government’s implementation of the new minimum wage in October.

Candidates who sat the May/June 2024 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) tests are now able to access their preliminary results in digital format. The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) launched the Electronic Preliminary Slip (e-Preslip) at the Official Release of Results Ceremony in the Commonwealth of Dominica this past Tuesday.

The Saint Lucia Auto Sound Club has come out to clear the air, after a report by a media house reportedly painted its members in a negative light and as a major source of noise pollution. The footage used was is reportedly from an event authorized by the police and not a random sound clash activity. The association claims that its members are law abiding and least likely to cause noise pollution especially in residential areas.

MSR Media Head Philippe Martinez has made more damning allegations, this time involving Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre. In a special interview with DBS's Lissa Joseph, Martinez claimed that the Prime Minister attempted to settle the involvement of the Saint Lucian defendants in the US RICO lawsuit filed by Martinez. Following these claims, the opposition UWP is urging the Prime Minister to be more transparent with the public about the Citizenship by Investment Program (CIP) and the allegations by Martinez.
