NOMINEES FOR THE FIRST TRACE AWARDS THAT WILL TAKE PLACE IN BK ARENA IN KIGALI, RWANDA, ON 21st OCTOBER 2023.
Tiwa Savage has been nominated for three awards ahead of the inaugural Trace Awards in Kigali, Rwanda, on 21 October. The live event and global TV spectacular will celebrate the creativity, talent and influence of African and Afro-inspired music and culture. It will be broadcast live to some 500 million people in 190 countries. The awards will celebrate genres such as Afrobeats, dancehall, hip hop, mbalax, amapiano, zouk, kizomba, genge, coupé décalé, bongo flava, soukous, gospel, rap, rai, kompa, R&B and rumba.

Speaking about the awards, Trace chairman and co-founder Olivier Laouchez said: “The Trace Awards’ nominations salute achievement and excellence from more than 150 performers, producers, DJs, writers, composers, directors, established artists and rising stars, and their management and labels. We congratulate all the nominees, most of whom will attend and perform in Kigali on 21 October. It will be an unmissable experience for lovers of African and Afro-inspired music.” Competing in 22 award categories are platinum-selling artists from more than 30 countries in Africa, South America, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean and Europe. The winners’ trophy was designed by acclaimed Congolese sculptor and designer Dora Prevost.

Leading the nominees are West African artists, particularly Nigerian musicians, who underscore the global popularity of Afrobeats with more than 40 nominations in total – including multiple nods for Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Davido, WizKid, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Fireboy DML and Rema. The contribution of female artists is recognised in multiple categories including Best Female Artist, where Cape Verde’s Soraia Ramos is competing against Ivory Coast’s Josey, Senegal’s Viviane Chidid, Kenya’s Nadia Mukami and the double Nigerian threat of Tiwa Savage and Arya Starr. Apart from musicians on the continent, the diverse music of the African diasporas is represented by acclaimed nominees from France, Brazil, the UK, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean, including Stormzy (UK), Aya Nakamura (France), Leo Santana (Brazil) and Shenseea (Jamaica), among others.

Born in the Netherlands into a mixed Dutch and Nigerian family, Troost-Ekong was eligible for both the Netherlands and Nigeria in international football. He made his debut for Nigeria in 2015 and has since earned more than 60 caps.
In 2023/24 transfer market, the Nigerian/Netherlands football star Troost-Ekong was mentioned by the Greek sports news site, supporting Panathinaikos coach to make a decision on the center back and the two sides have agreed to the basic terms. Troost-Ekong's name featured on news headlines in the last few days regarding his negotiations with the Greek club. The player allegedly gathered information regarding life in Athens and the city's South side and both sides concluded their negotiations on 4 July and his contract in Panathinaikos will last till 2026.

EJIKEME JOY MMESOMA CONFESSED TO ANAMBRA STATE COMMITTEE OF INQUIRY OF MANIPULATING HER JAMB REAULT.
The governor of Anambra state, Prof Charles Soludo had set up Anambra state committee of enquiry to investigate UTME result of miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma and they found her guilty and indicted her, saying the result was fake.

Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma confesses to have manipulated her JAMB result. The panel said it conducted interviews with relevant parties, including Mmesoma, JAMB officials and other individual(s) involved in the process as well as the principal of Anglican Girls Secondary School.

According to the panel, Mmesoma had sent a request to JAMB with a different registration number showing a UTME result of an aggregate score of 362, with Eng: 98, Phy: 89, Bio: 94, and Che: 81 which differed substantially from the standard JAMB format where she got an appropriate rebuttal stating her real score of 249.

Don Brymo, whose real name is Brymo Uchegbu, one of the most prolific Nollywood actors, born on 24th November 1966 was few hours ago reported dead. He was said to have died on Wednesday night.

According to Mr Ofoegbu, his colleague who posted a message of tribute on the demise of Don Brymo, wrote: “Plan for tomorrow but live for today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

“I wrote those lines on my WhatsApp status yesterday evening. My man, my 5 & 6, Don Brymo Uchegbu, passed in his sleep.

SEN GODSWILL OBOT AKPABIO SWORN IN AS THE NEW SENATE PRESIDENT.
Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio has been sworn in as President of Senate of the 10th National Assembly after defeating Sen. Abdulaziz Yari. He was a Former Senate Minority Leader, and was nominated by Sen. Ali Ndume and supported by Sen. Ishaku Abbo. He got 63 votes to edge out Yari who, polled 46 votes.

The voting at the red chamber in Abuja started at exactly 08:45am on Tuesday and the voting process ended at about 09:15am.

Meanwhile, Sen. Dave Umahi nominated Senator Barau as Deputy Senate President, and the clerk of the Red Chamber after seeking for further nominations, declared Barau as Deputy Senate President unopposed. He was thereafter sworn in as the 10th National Assembly Deputy Senate President.
