Berlin, Germany – August 2024 – Noise à Noise proudly presents (re)generations, the groundbreaking new album by multimedia artist and experimental musician Chem XP. This work explores the nature of complexity and growth through a unique sonic exploration.

(re)generations serves as a sonic archetype for growth, employing a “Birkinian-Bodleyan” definition of complexity, where musical elements and patterns are intricately woven to explore the boundaries of sound. The album features six iterations of a single composition, evolving from basic forms to increasingly complex structures. This evolution reflects a journey from simplicity to intricate complexity, offering listeners an immersive experience in the interplay between order and chaos.


Ice_Eyes: Athens-based artists Anastasios Tatsis and Spiros Alfa, known as Ice_Eyes, craft unique electronic music with dynamic sound motifs and deep bass drops. Their innovative sounds have featured on labels like Seagrave and Genot Centre, and they host a bimonthly show on Threads Radio.


Ehsan Saboohi: An Iranian composer and theorist renowned for his Post-Orientalism approach, blending microtonal sounds with altered structures. Saboohi’s work includes solo piano pieces and orchestral arrangements, reflecting his exploration of new musical languages.


011668: An interdisciplinary American artist exploring spirituality and mythology in the digital age, blending elements of dance, film noir, and tokusatsu.

(re)generations explores the evolution of sound through six variations of a single composition, moving from simple forms to complex structures. This album also features a special study of a modified Vito Leblanc alto saxophone, connecting past memories with Chem XP’s current work.

(re)generations is a sonic journey exploring growth and evolution. Using a “Birkinian-Bodleyan” view on complexity, it delves into:
“Complexity in terms of the quantity, arrangement, and variety of musical elements”
(Guy Birkin/Sun Hammer “Complexification,” 2015).

Incorporating visual elements*, increase*, and time*, the album presents six versions of one piece, evolving from simple forms (seed, s***m, spore) to complex structures (plant, animal, fungus). This work also features a unique study of a modified Vito Leblanc alto saxophone (circa 1980), once owned by Chem XP’s late father, Clem Washington. The artist repurposed the saxophone, connecting past memories with his current project.

So this week on Lost and Found Sounds is the episode, thwarted by Studio 2 in the midst of renovation, planned for a couple of weeks ago featuring The Corrupting Sea on Histamine Tapes, SM Milligan on Impulsive Habitat , Skipism on Æscape Sounds, Influencing Machines on Peacock Window Recordings, Reza Ahmadian, and Hanna Mesgari, Ali Balighi, Ehsan Saboohi and Kian Hossein all on Noise a Noise, and I will squeeze in something from the enormous and varied repertoire the aural navigator Michael Coffey has left us to pore over and enjoy following his heart-wrenching departure for eternal sonic exploration on Wednesday 15th of May, ahead of a more thorough tribute in a future episode.

Idin Samimi Mofakham (b. 1982, Tehran) is an Iranian composer and performer deeply influenced by the traditional and regional music of his homeland. Since 2015, he has been forging his unique musical language, drawing inspiration from non-Western tuning systems, just intonation, and psychoacoustics. In 2023, he earned his PhD from the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, focusing on medieval Iranian tuning systems and their contemporary applications in composition. Since 2013, Idin has served as the co-founder and artistic manager of the Spectro Centre for New Music. From 2015 to 2019, he held the position of board member and senior curator at the Tehran Contemporary Music Festival, Iran’s sole international event dedicated to contemporary and experimental music. Together with his wife, composer Martyna Kosecka, he co-founded the experimental band Spectro Duo. Their repertoire encompasses drone, noise, beat phenomena, glitch, field-recording transformations, microtonality, and oriental modalities. Idin’s compositions have been showcased or recorded by renowned ensembles worldwide, including Klangforum Wien, S.E.M, Hermes Ensemble, Omnibus Ensemble, Moto Perpetuo, AuditivVokal Dresden, Momenta Quartet, IAMA Trio, Ostravská Banda, Stockholm Saxophone Quartet, Xelmya Trio, Oslo Sinfonietta, and in Iran, prominently by Nivak Ensemble and Nilper Orchestra.

Ali Radman (1973, Tehran) has over two decades of teaching experience at the University of Tehran, Sooreh University, and IAU, Shiraz Branch. In 2012, Radman received the 1st Medal of Arts and was recognized as the top researcher of the University for four consecutive years.
