When My Daughter Made an Unexpected Connection: A Lesson in Early Learning and AI ๐
When I started learning Machine Learning, my daughter was just two years old. Watching her learn to speak, I became fascinated by the sources of the words she used. I was, in a way, watching the dataset of my own model grow. ๐๐ถ
One day, when she was around three or four, we sat down to watch Anaconda 3. We missed the introduction, so my niece filled us in on the plot. The next morning, as I was leaving for work, my daughter asked me a question that took me by surprise:
โAmma, do you have an anaconda in your office?โ ๐
I smiled and replied, โLots of them.โ ๐
โWhose anaconda is it? Are you going to feed it?โ ๐ค
Her questions made me pause. How had she made this connection?
After some thought, I remembered my nieceโs words: โThey are doing research with anacondas. She is a doctor and is taking care of the anacondas.โ ๐ฉบ๐ฌ
She also knew that I am a doctor, doing research in a lab. She had connected three features: research, doctor, and lady.
It struck me that sometimes, even at an early stage, our mindsโand our language modelsโwork in similar ways, making intuitive connections from seemingly unrelated pieces of information. ๐ก๐ค
Itโs a reminder to be mindful of the data we consume and the connections we make, whether in AI or life. ๐
