A fatal accident occurred on Wednesday in the Katakhal-Salchapra area when an Ultra bus and an Alto car collided head-on. Kumar Gaurav Dev, a 37-year-old GRS worker from Panchgram, lost his life on the spot, leaving the local community in mourning.

The dyke at Tukurgram in Salchapra, Cachar has been breached on July 3, 2024. The water from the Barak River is rushing into the vast area, with a potential of flooding Salchapra, Srikona and adjoining areas in matter of hours. The entire region is now submerged, creating a situation of panic among the thousands of residents. As a result of this significant dyke breach, several houses have been inundated. Consequently, people from the affected areas have left their homes and moved to safer locations. The riverside residents blame this breach on the negligence of the Water Resources Department.
