PDP candidate from Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency Waheed Para has been booked for violating Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by holding a road show without prior permission in south Kashmir’s Pulwama last month, officials said on Thursday.

The Srinagar constituency went to polls on May 13, registering about 38 per cent voter turnout which was the second highest in the past three decades. Para is among 24 candidates in the fray from the seat.

The officials said the FIR was lodged against Para on May 8 under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code at Pulwama police station on the complaint lodged by nodal officer, MCC and additional deputy commissioner, Pulwama.

The PDP leader is accused of holding a road show in the areas of Beighpora, Padgampora, Larkipora, Wankanpora, Goripora, Dangerpora, Jangalnad, Batapora, Dhawatoo, Khandaypora and Panzgam in Pulwama on April 27, without any permission from the authorities concerned.

Quoting a report of senior superintendent of police, the complainant said the vehicle-bound rally of Para from PDP office to circular road via Rajpora Chowk, Murran and Peaks crossing was in violation of the MCC.

The candidate violated the MCC despite requests from Pulwama police station SHO (station house officer) and duty magistrate, thereby jeopardizing his security and the security of other persons, the complainant said, adding the delayed response of the PDP district president over the violation was not satisfactory.

Para was also served a notice by the J&K election department earlier this month, objecting to his statement asking youngsters to consider the general elections as a “referendum”.

However, the PDP leader defended his remark, in his response on May 10, and said his statement that the “ensuing election is no less than a referendum” only points towards the importance of the polls.(PTI)

Amit Shah to visit Srinagar tomorrow evening

“Will stay for night, to meet several delegations on Friday”

Srinagar, May 15: Amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Srinagar on Thursday evening, officials sources said here on Wednesday.

Top official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Shah will arrive in Srinagar tomorrow evening and will stay for a night.
He said that the next day Shah is scheduled to meet various delegations including civil society members and BJP Karyakartas.

Shah’s visit to Srinagar comes amid the Lok Sabha polls being held across the country, however, the BJP has not fielded any candidate for 3 seats in the Kashmir Valley.

Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency went to polls in the 4th phase on May 13, recording a voter turnout of over 38 percent - the highest since 1996 in the Lok Sabha elections.

Baramulla and Anantnag-Rajouri seats will go to polls on May 20 and May 25 respectively in the 7-phase Lok Sabha polls. Results will be declared on June 04.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur also confirmed to KNO that Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Srinagar tomorrow to meet several delegations—(KNO)

Lawyer Files Case Against Influencer, Apni Party Member Mudasir Bhat for Using ‘Foul Language’ on Social Media

Srinagar 15 May (CNS): To seek an action under law, a lawyer has filed a case against social media influencer and member of the J&K Apni Party Mudasir Bashir Bhat alias Mudasir Aziz before the court of Judicial Magistrate Pampore for alleged use of foul language by accused on social media platform, “categorising as an offence under section 294 of the IPC”.

Reliable sources told the news agency CNS that a complainant, Advocate Fayaz Ahmad Lone, a resident of Pampore, has filed a case against the accused Mudasir Bashir Bhat, who recently joined the J&K Apni Party and mentioned in the complaint that the latter has “uttered obscene words on social media thus creating causing annoyance to the general public.”

“The act on the part of the accused is categorised as offence in terms of section 294 IPC as the words uttered by the accused during online conversation caused annoyance to general public/users in general and to the complainant in particular,” submitted the complainant before the court of Judicial Magistrate Pampore in a written form according to sources.

The complainant further appealed to the Court for investigation into the matter so that the accused can be dealt with under the provisions of law, they added.
