Screen-The Lantern House in Tirrur, India designed by
This house is considered an entity whose external facade is assigned the duty of ‘screening’ of the built from the unbuilt. This is done to place the volume in the most subtle way by not being in stark contrast with the context. This ‘screen’/ envelope of the house is lined with a layer of landscape in the inner periphery acting as a filtering member for the light and noise from the outside, also enabling a play of light inside during the day. Moreover, fresh and humid air from the surroundings is brought in, filtered, and spread to different corners of the house.
The facade metaphorically represents a ‘lantern’ where the external envelope shields and glorifies the beauty of the inner core - the light or the function; literally being witnessed during the night. he design follows a clean, straightforward elevation where windows and doors are wrapped inside without revealing their identity, producing a monolithic form.

//Characterized by their mud-plastered, bamboo-framed, cylindrical traditional forms, the Bhunga houses of this desert region represent a way of life deeply rooted in the local culture. Their adaption to the climate and time-tested structural stability make them well-suited for this earthquake-prone desert region, with its sandstorms and cyclonic winds. Governed by the Venturi effect and Bernoulli’s principle of pressure differences, Bhungas allows for an easy flow of cool breezes within and divert strong winds around their curvilinear walls, preventing structural destabilization.
Regional Science Centre at Bhuj designed by
The goal is to ‘Bring Science to People’s Doorstep,’ creating top-notch facilities that educate, entertain, and integrate modernity with cultural heritage, embodying the state’s forward-looking approach to science, education, and community engagement. The Regional Science Centre in Bhuj city, in the Kutch region of Gujarat state, is situated to the north of a hillock known locally as Bhujiyo Dungar. The North-South axis acts as a pedestrian path and connects with the East-West axis, along which all the galleries are located. The design philosophy draws inspiration from the immediate context of Smriti Van, a memorial to the devastating 2001 earthquake, thus creating a meeting point of science, culture, and social interface.
Built on platforms and placed close together, the residual spaces act as shaded spaces for circulation and community engagement. Inspired by this traditional architecture, the exhibition galleries of the Centre are designed as cylindrical envelopes.

Pitri Chhaya an apartment in Songadh, Gujarat, India designed by
“It was not so easy to turn a tiny apartment having compact and small rooms in a this much spacious apartment. Biggest challenge was its floor height and deep beams. But we turned limitations into opportunities. We used deep beams to play different levels in ceiling design. We used such color that low floor height started giving feelings of togetherness and designed in such a fashion that 150 sq.ft. sized small living space turned in to 270 sq.ft. A living room is a place to showcase your creativity and aesthetics by experimenting with color palettes, layers of texture and patterns, along with an array of furniture layouts. Find your comfort with this large seating C-shape sectional whether you are working from home, watching TV, or reading your favorite book Featuring ultra-soft corduroy upholstery, medium firm large seating ,large square arm, this gorgeous masterpiece will be the focal point of your living room.“ says principal designer Naishadh Pancholi

//A monolithic pink concrete mosque finds its location at the edge of an existing waterbody amidst a fast-growing industrial area on the outskirts of Dhaka City.
Zebun Nessa Mosque In Ashulia, Bangladesh designed by .official
The mosque is designed as a Permeable Pavilion that establishes a deeper connection between water and land, which serves as both a spiritual and breathing space within an industrial compound. The owner of the industry wanted to build a mosque for the workers to commemorate the memory of his late mother in the hope of inducing softness within the harsh industrial area. This narrative inspires the architect to design the mosque as a spiritual-social space, enhancing mutual care and trust between the owner and the workers.
The mosque incorporates elements that allow for filtered natural light and ventilation, creating a “breathing pavilion”. The mosque features a simple yet effective design, with a monolithic mass situated on a high plinth, reminiscent of the vernacular house forms built on ‘Bhiti’ (mound) in the deltaic landform of Bangladesh. The plan of the mosque evolves from simple geometric shapes, with a square surrounding a circular volume, to create four enclosed gardens that serve as light courts on each side. The outer square volume melts into subtle curves in the east and west directions to interact with the site forces. The northeast hanging corner of the curve wall defines the main entry, facing the existing node of the two main internal roads of the industrial compound. The thick concrete walls are perforated with small rectangular voids. Filtered light seeping through the voids resembles hanging lanterns of old mosques.

Casa Borbon In Batangas, Philippines designed by
“We believe that a house is a sculpture that we live in - that we shape our homes, which in turn shapes us - our activities, ideas, our way of life. We always strive to not just create art but rather envision the project’s natural environment as the canvas in which we work - where our client’s ideas are our materials, and our philosophy as a firm the guiding hand in which we trace and mold the sculpture that one day they might call home. This is how we worked with Casa Borbon, revealing in the environment the invisible sculpture that is nature’s masterpiece.“ says the architects.
The Casa was built on a sloped lot that had several existing trees and other vegetation. The programming of the project was then oriented towards maximizing these existing site features to the advantage of the structure. Through meticulous planning and synthesis, the project masterfully frames the environment with the placement of its windows - providing scenic views in strategic directions, accommodating natural light, and the projection of soft yet ambient shadows that dance gracefully across the room, creating a tranquil atmosphere that invites a sense of calm and serenity.

//Intended as an oasis, the house is built on the family’s ancestral land in the heart of the Konkan belt to allow them to withdraw to their roots in the countryside.
Maison Rouge in Murud, India designed by .architecture.mumbai
Maison Rouge is a vacation home located in a small hamlet on the west coast of India, abutting the Arabian Sea.
The house has been imagined as a collection of architectural and spatial moments connected through a variety of open and semi-open passages. The layout spreads across the site to accommodate the existing site trees, blurring boundaries between the building and its surroundings. The house block splits to create a covered veranda that visually connects the lawn to the paar (seating) under the chickoo tree while allowing the cool sea breeze to circulate through the site. The intention to create intimate spaces for each member of the family was the cornerstone in the planning of the house, which boasts 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a double-height living space, verandas, terraces, a kitchen with an outdoor dining area, a gym, and staff quarters.
Maison Rouge takes its name from the red Laterite stone used in its construction, which is indigenous to the region. From its inception, the project was emotionally tied to the land it sits on today.

//this house brings to life the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi - a 15th century Japanese concept that celebrates the beauty of imperfection and impermanence.
Wabi Sabi at Adarsh palm retreat condos, Bangalore, India designed by .arora.n.interiors
It’s designed to create a harmonious symphony between minimalism and warmth, enhancing the feeling of naturalness, rawness, simplicity and the beauty of imperfection.
Wabi-sabi’s design archetypes are organic, raw and sustainable materials.
To be true to its essence, we upcycled fallen trees and branches to make the design more sustainable. Broken branches were repurposed to create door handles. A discarded piece of wood from a felled tree trunk, was turned into wall art to adorn the ground floor balcony. Dried flowers and branches that would have ended up in the scrap, were salvaged and used as ikebana – the Japanese art of arranging flowers.
“I believe that Good Interior design, is not just about designing beautiful spaces. It’s about creating an immersive space that transports people to another world. And that starts by creating a strong design narrative, weaving a story in the entire design scheme.” says Neha Arora N principal designer of .arora.n.interiors

KN House in Ahmedabad, India designed by
“Working on the blank canvas is always an exhilarating experience, however, confining in accords to the existing is always a challenge. Carving the aesthetics resonating with the family’s integrity and personality is never an easy task.

The house is finished in colors of beige and grey, marble finish wall panels, oak wood furniture and also wall cladding create a minimal environment. The contrast in the palette appears with a touch of shades in the form of greens to highlight the subtle nature of other spaces. The living room is detailed with light visuals of colors cascading the essence of openness and yet confined space. The flow of natural light and ventilation brings in freshness and cultivates the experience of joy while entering the home. The division of space provides a connection but also provides privacy to the dining area creating a screen. The marble table top with some light accent chairs enhances the space and brings in the joy of vastness to the area.” says principal architect Kathan

Fortune Farm Store In Pirojpur, India destiny .lab
“While ideating for this lineage jeweler’s enterprise, we decided to do away with design dictums that have long reigned this typology. The traditional ‘across-the-counter’ (read: stark and transactional) modus operandi was turned on its head, and how! The result: a store that concocts a sensory, riveting, and curiosity-fuelled journey.” says the designers.
Rich with caresses of rusty terracotta and moody charcoal, Luire scripts a narrative steeped in theatrics that celebrates dualism: delicate and brilliant diamonds finding a home within the fiery Martian milieu. The two worlds couldn’t be further apart, yet in the same breath, any closer.

//This particular house, owned by a family of former farmers now residing overseas, serves as a temporary abode during their visits. Standing for over 150 years, the wooden structure with shared walls features an “Otla” leading to aligned doors, culminating in an open court that ventilates utilities.
Apdu ‘Gaam nu Ghar’ Residence In Vemar, India designed by .in
The house, with changing levels and a pitched roof, represents a composite of materials and adaptations for improved living conditions and occupational needs.
The old house’s timber is repurposed in the new construction, with beams reused in the split gable roof structure. Shared walls are redesigned to accommodate the new roof, retaining the outer block’s originality with finishing updates. Wood from old openings is transformed into new doors and windows, preserving the main door and jaali in their original state. The transformed ‘Gaam nu Ghar’ stands amidst a dynamic struggle with identity and associations. Originally conceived as a restoration project, the structurally deteriorated old house was deconstructed and rebuilt due to safety concerns. The scale of the new house is optimized for occasional visits, featuring a split gable roof that encompasses all spaces. The project carefully balances the preservation of heritage with functional and safety considerations, embodying a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity in the evolving narrative of Vemar village.

//a holiday house for a couple in the province of Mondoukou, about a hundred kilometers from Abidjan. It is surrounded by vast palm trees and with close access to the Gulf of Guinea’s beach. The house has a central tropical rock garden; all the walls are made of earth and limestone, and traditional workers near Assinie, Ivory Coast craft a central bamboo roof.
Villa Mondoukou In Cote D’Ivoire in West Africa; designed by Remy Aznar and William Tailly.
The walls are finished with more; the varying shades of earth and lime serve as the only ornamentation of the house. Local artisans skillfully crafted low-cost materials such as earth, lime, and bamboo to construct this house.
Everything else is a play of levels in the spatial sequences of the house: You enter through a raised slab between two walls, and then you access the living room, still supported by this slab. This living room provides access to the patio with a bamboo roof, creating a skylight.

//Architecture can be, in a sense, analogous to a Tree (banyan tree, bodhi tree) with its branches and leaves that intertwine and spread out, forming various layers for use; It can also be metaphorically meant spatial levels offering miscellaneous chambers at different heights in a Cave, as regards prehistoric men being accommodated.
Ngói Space In Vietnam, designed by
Ngói space is created from the perspective of merging these 2 primitive shelters (the Tree & the Cave), giving reminiscences of a big Roof such as the roof of a communal house or that of a Rong house – an open community space which has been existing for a long time.
In making a Roof, Tile presents a natural option since it is a material familiar to most Vietnamese people, yet used unusually (as walls, curtains) in an extraordinary space to produce a special different effect (regarding appearance, sense of space, and micro-climate quality). The Ngói space functions Cafés (lower space + on the rooftop), Seminar and Exhibition rooms (on the middle floor) to offer a fresh destination, an inspiring common Roof.
