Scottie Scheffler won the Masters for a second time after a commanding performance at Augusta National demonstrated why he was the red-hot pre-tournament favourite. , who led overnight by a shot, hit a four-under 68 in Sunday's final round to finish four clear on 11 under. Sweden's Ludvig Aberg shot 69 to finish runner-up on his major debut. England's Tommy Fleetwood (69) ended joint fourth with American pair Collin Morikawa (74) and Max Homa (73). Fleetwood put together an impressive round to make a late charge up the leaderboard and record his best finish at the Masters.

But the day belonged to Scheffler. The 27-year-old Texan showed rare emotion on the 18th green as he received the acclaim of the Augusta patrons after wrapping up his second Masters victory in three years. There had been a possibility the 2022 champion might not even play the final round. Scheffler's wife Meredith is due to give birth to their first child and the American Ryder Cup star said on Saturday he was prepared to leave Augusta mid-round if she went into labour on Sunday.

American trio Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa share the lead while Tiger Woods made a record 24th consecutive halfway cut at the Masters.

Homa's 71 was one of only eight under par rounds on a blustery day two at Augusta as he improved to six under.

Round one leader DeChambeau shot a 73, while Scheffler scrambled a 72.

England's Tommy Fleetwood and Danny Willett are five back at one under, but Rory McIlroy's challenge faded with a 77 that leaves him at four over.

Willett had been four under on the 18th tee but a wayward drive and taking two shots to get out of a greenside bunker led to a triple-bogey seven.

Defending champion Jon Rahm conceded he had been "fighting all day" as he signed for a 76 and squeezed into the weekend on five over, one shot inside the cut mark.

Augusta National Golf Club revealed plans for significant enhancements to the Augusta Municipal Golf Course and on-site facilities. The project, set to begin in January 2025, involves renowned course architects Tom Fazio and Beau Welling and aims to provide affordable access to golf while nurturing future leaders in the sport.

The Augusta Municipal Golf Course, affectionately known as "The Patch," will undergo a transformation to offer improved amenities and playing experiences. Community input sessions will play a vital role in shaping the project, with the goal of opening the renovated course by April 2026. The initiative aligns with Augusta National's commitment to promoting golf accessibility and supporting programs like The First Tee.

Additionally, Augusta National will enhance on-site facilities for Masters competitors in two phases. The first phase includes the construction of underground parking, set to be operational for the 2025 Masters. The second phase, scheduled for completion in 2026, will introduce a state-of-the-art facility catering to the needs of players, their families, and support teams.

These developments signify Augusta National's dedication to enriching the golfing experience for players and the local community alike. Further details regarding the on-site facilities will be unveiled at the 2025 Masters tournament.

Keita Nakajima won his first DP World Tour title in emphatic style as a closing 73 handed him a four-shot wire-to-wire win at the Hero Indian Open. The Japanese entered the final round with a four-shot advantage and that was extended to nine he turned in 33 and threatened to blow the rest of the field away at DLF Golf & Country Club.

He could not quite maintain that incredible pace on the back nine but his 17 under par total gave him a comfortable victory over home favourite Veer Ahlawat, Swede Sebastian Söderberg and American Johannes Veerman.

The win in just his 11th start moves Nakajima to 13th in the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex and to the top of the Asian Swing standings.

Nakajima becomes the fifth Japanese winner in DP World Tour history and his victory, the seventh by a Japanese player, comes as part of a remarkable purple patch for his nation on Tour.

The Indian duo impressed on home soil, posting five under par rounds of 67, one shot clear of 11 others, including last week’s Delhi Challenge winner John Parry.

Mane mixed two birdies with one bogey on the front nine before adding four more birdies, including three in a row from the 15th, to set the pace from the morning starters.

The 33-year-old, who currently sits 17th on this season’s TATA STEEL PGTI (Professional Golf Tour of India) Rankings, says accuracy off the tee was key to his strong start to the week.

“I kept the ball in play where it lies well, and I hit a lot of greens,” he said. “There are 108 hazards around here and in the 18 holes if you don’t hit any of them, you’re doing something right.

“The three birdies in a row at the end of my round was nice. The course does lend itself to that on those three holes, but it’s just good to make it count.

“I also made some good momentum saves and a few nice birdies. I was out of position on a couple of holes, but I made birdie on one and managed to make par on the other.”

Ahlawat carded three birdies and one eagle to go bogey-free and join countryman Mane at the top of the leaderboard late on day one.

The 27-year-old finished sixth at Royal Calcutta in the SSP Chawrasia Invitational presented by TAKE Sports last year, and thinks course knowledge gave him an advantage on day one.

“Because I’ve played here over the last few years, I know where to miss, and where you can attack certain flags,” he said. “A few of the flags are tricky and the different grains on the greens are tough too, which can make it difficult to read putts.

“I hit 17 greens in regulation, holed a few good putts, and just missed one short putt, but apart from that my round was very smooth. I had a really solid striking day.

Scottie Scheffler fought through a neck injury and a record five-shot deficit in the final round to secure victory at the Players Championship. The world number one, who received treatment for his neck during round two, delivered a remarkable eight-under 64 to clinch the coveted title in the 50th edition of the PGA Tour's flagship tournament. Scheffler's triumphant performance saw him become the first man ever to successfully defend the Players Championship title. His total score of 20 under par proved just enough to claim victory by a single shot over a trio of fellow Americans: Brian Harman, Wyndham Clark, and Xander Schauffele. Despite leading for much of the final round, Schauffele's hopes were dashed as his 60-foot putt narrowly missed its mark, resulting in a final round of 70. Meanwhile, US Open champion Clark faced a similar fate, with his 17-foot putt agonizingly horseshoeing around the hole, leaving him to settle for a 69.

13/03/2024

Hitaashee Bakshi played a sensational front nine at the DLF Golf and Country Club as she carded 8-under 64 on the first day of the sixth Leg of the 2024 Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour.

Hitaashee, who has had a steady season so far and leads the Hero Order of Merit, opened sedately with two pars, and then landed two eagles and four other birdies in the next seven holes for a front nine of 8-under 28. She had another birdie on the 13th and a bogey on the 17th, her only blemish of the day, to finish at 64, equalling the ladies course record.

Hitaashee, who in her five previous starts has won once and been second or tied second on three other occasions, is eight shots clear of the second placed Vani Kapoor and last week’s winner, Amandeep Drall, who shot 72 each.

Gaurika Bishnoi, who was runner-up last week in the fifth leg, was fourth with a round of 73, while the Queen Sirikit bound amateur Zara Anand showed her promise with a 74 that put her at fifth.

Hitaashee, who after a comeback from injuries topped the Thailand LPGA Q-School, showed great form. She picked an eagle on Par-5 fourth and another eagle on Par-4 sixth, where she holed her second shot. Her birdies came on third, fifth, eighth and ninth. On the back nine, she birdied the 13th, and her lone bogey came on the challenging 17th.

Vani had four birdies and four bogeys in her first 13 holes and parred the rest, while Amandeep parred the first 11 holes and birdied the Par-3 12th and gave that shot back on Par-4 17th. Gaurika had three birdies against four bogeys.

Zara Anand had a rough start and was 3-over after the first six holes, but three birdies and a bogey between the eighth and 12th steadied her. She finished with two more bogeys against one birdie.

Astha Madan (75) was sixth, while five players, Ananya Datar, Karishma Govind, Jasmine Shekar, Jahaanvie Walia and another Queen Sirikit player amateur Vidhatri Urs were all tied seventh at 76 each.

Amateur Heena Kang, also part of the Indian team going for Queen Sirikit with Zara and Vidhatri, shot 77 to be T-12.
