The synopsis goes as such:
Lenin evokes diverse feelings. There have been numerous accounts of the icon’s social and political philosophy. Some say he was a dictator, while some say there has been no one in the history of human civilisation who was as democratic as Lenin. Both interpretations of the revolutionary icon’s personality and politics have been sources of great debates and polemics within the Global Left. It is time again to reanalyse those interpretations, especially with the rise of mass movements in countries such as India. Since 2014, India has been gripped by a wave of mass movements. Students, Women, Minorities and recently, the Farmers, have been the major participants in these movements. The political implications of these movements, however, are yet to be seen. Sceptics argue that the political implications will only be visible when the real working-class steps up. In times such as these, Lenin becomes an extremely important figure, not only because of his role in 1917 but also because of the tactics he employed. The contemporary analysis has to go beyond the traditional questions and instead focus on newer ones:
Can there be a new interpretation of Lenin distinct from the conventional ones?
Can Lenin’s ideas be used in a dialectical manner in the contemporary world?
Can there be a new social philosophy of Leninism itself?
These are some of the questions that the book tries to grapple with. Distinct from idol worshipping hagiographies, and written in an easy polemical fashion, this book is a critique of both mainstream Leninist politics and undialectical anti-Leninist analyses. Suddhabrata Deb Roy

The State Its Origin and Function
By: William Paul

One of the first important Marxian conceptualizations of the state, William Paul’s The State: Its origin and Functions, was published in the same year as Lenin’s State and Revolution. The aim, in author’s own words, “was to show that a certain influential section of the Labour Movement has been using the term ‘State’ without clearly realising exactly what the State is, and the function it plays in social evolution.” The chapters were based on a series of lectures delivered by the writer to the Birmingham and Derby Social Science Classes, organized by the Social Labor Party in its role as an “Educational Force”. The idea was to study state structures of the past to extract insights into the functioning of the state that the working class was faced with in the present.

“Care Work” And The Commons

The volume emphatically argues the need to embark in a journey of transformation built on the power of the commons when neither the state nor the market can guarantee our survival. This journey implies a “commoning” transforming our subjectivities. As the commons develop within a field of power relations, the character and social space of their autonomy are necessarily negotiated with capital. But negotiation can only occur on the basis of the commons’ constituted power, which is the power of reproducing with dignity and freedom the life and bodies of all involved in a process of reproduction.
The volume weaves together analyses and stories that force us to look at the power of the commons power from the perspective of the labour required to reproduce human beings as well as labour power: child-care, housework, s*x work and elder care, both in the form of waged and unwaged labour. It not only examines how the neoliberal restructuring of the global economy has reshaped the organization of this work transforming “our bodies and desires” and reconfiguring “our homes, our families and social relations” but it also highlights the struggles that domestic-care workers are making in response to the new conditions of reproductive labour. It argues that these forms of commoning are vital for not only overcoming the crisis of reproduction we face but also to begin to mold a new society and reconstitute the common/s. # # # # "Care Work And The commons.

Reading Capital Politically by Harry Clever

From introduction: ‘In this book I re-examine Karl Marx’s analysis of value through a detailed study of Chapter One of Volume I of Capital. The object of this study is to bring out the political usefulness of the analysis of value by situating the abstract concepts of Chapter One within Marx’s overall analysis of the class struggles of capitalist society. I intend to return to what I believe was Marx’s original purpose: he wrote Capital to put a weapon in the hands of workers. In it he presented a detailed analysis of the fundamental dynamics of the struggles between the capitalist and the working classes. By reading Capital as a political document, workers could study in depth the various ways in which the capitalist class sought to dominate them as well as the methods they themselves used to struggle against that domination.
