booti - A majestic and elusive all curing divine herb in epic .

: It is the well-known fact that most of the plants species exist in nature possess medicinal properties. Sanjeevani booti is one among such plants species, which is known for its majestic effects from ancient time. Sanjeevani (a group of herbs) is the most elusive in Indian mythology whose existence and identity are still controversial. According to Hindu mythology, Sanjeevani booti has potential of reviving a person and returning him to consciousness. In Valmiki Ramayana, it is mentioned in Yudhakandprakaran that when Lakshman got injured and fell unconscious, the Royal physician Susena asked Hanuman to step Dronagiri hills and bring four plants i.e. Mritasanjeevani, for reviving a life, Vishalyakarani, for removing arrows, Sandhanakarani, for restoring damaged skin and Suvarnyakarani for restoring skin colour. Just after smelling the revitalizing medicinal herb, Lakshmana gained consciousness. This is a majestic herb which has capability of resurrecting life. Recent research claims Saussurea gossypiphora and Pleurospermum candollei as Mritasanjeevani. Several plants those have been considered as affirmable candidates for the sanjeevani plants are including Selaginella bryopteris, Dendrobium plicatile, Cressa cretica and Rhodiola rosea. Since ages, people have been talking about the magical effects of these plants. Truly, Sanjeevani are the herbs of great importance to the society as a whole, and these should be studied thoroughly.

Ayurvedic approaches used in prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

: Ayurveda has a diverse point of view to prevent and treat diabetes which is appare ently not associated with the insight of modern science. The ancient literature of Ayurveda described diabetes as Madhumeha (sugar related disease) and suggested a number of remedies to cure it. Although in the ancient literature, the mechanism of diabetes is not well-understood but, as far as treatment is concerned, the suggested way of treatment is undoubtedly effective which is confirmed by numerous researches worldwide. Interestingly, Ayurveda mainly focuses on balanced diet, improved lifestyle with routine Yoga practice. However, the use of medication in the form of herbal preparation is considered with least priority, given on the basis of Prakriti (genotype) of the patient. In the present work, we thoroughly reviewed Ayurvedic concepts for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus using ancient Ayurvedic texts as well as the literature available in the most accepted scientific search engines i.e. PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. In addition to the use of herbal therapy, this review also describes the use of Panchakarma and Yoga for the management of type-2 diabetes and post-diabetic complication like retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy.

Disinformation of Ayurvedic medicines may harm their progress and popularity - Should not it be stopped?

: Recently, Times of India has published a report title with “Poison in Ayurvedic dr rugs” which was based on the few selected examples of Ayurvedic treatments as well as the views from some allopathic practitioners. These instances claimed the higher level of mercury and lead in the Ayurvedic preparations than that of a permissible limit of these metals which are harmful to human beings. In this report, Dr Ghani Mansuri, a retired principal of Akhandanand Ayurvedic College says that an Ayurvedic drug that has any deviation from prescribed Rasashastra process contains traces of heavy metals. These are mainly Bhasmas (ashes) which are traditionally prepared by purification of the metal by multiple cooling and heating cycles, almost 100 times, and by the addition of specific herbs. In modern time, the poor quality control leads to the improper purification, contamination and adulteration with heavy metals at the stage of preparation.

A clinical trial to establish the relationship between behavioural patterns and health status.

: In the present time, bad lifestyle is a major cause of metabolic and heart-related d disorders including stroke, obesity and diabetes. The present work aimed to establish the relationship between behavioural patterns and health status in human. A randomized clinical trial was conducted in Borella in which 50 patients were selected for the present study. All the patients were registered in the OPD of the Ayurvedic hospital, Borella. A questionnaire was used to collect information about the habits and health-related issues. The results suggested that there was no significant relationship of bad habits including ci******es smoking, alcohol consumption and the day time sleeping with the body mass index (BMI). The study concluded that the intake of sweets and oily foods was positively related to increased BMI.

a "new" old medicine? - The challenges of its medical use in the XXI century.

: Cannabis sativa L. is an ancient plant, that has been used during centuries as rop pe, cloth, paper, oil and birdfeed and also a well-known psychoactive drug included in the lists of UN 1961 Convention and the following documents related. Likewise, it has remarkable pharmacological properties recognized by tradition that now object of scientific research. This plant produces a unique series of secondary metabolites called cannabinoids which exhibit a typical C21 terpenophenolic skeleton, responsible for its pharmacological profile. These cannabinoids interact with the endogenous endocannabinoid system, involved in the regulation of a variety of physiological and cognitive processes including fertility, pregnancy, during pre- and postnatal development, appetite, pain-sensation, mood and memory. Some of these pharmacological activities are so novel and interesting that justify the scientific research in these areas which is performing now. This process is expensive and takes a lot of time, and in the meantime, millions of people use cannabis herb, for medical treatments based in traditional use. Taking into consideration this fact, there are some countries have approved the medical use of cannabis, creating specific regulations. Also, the Expert Committee on Drug Dependencies, of the World Health Organization (WHO) held in June 2018 a report about the medical use of cannabis. This report recommends that a critical review of the scientific literature on the cannabis plant and its resin, extracts or tinctures should be performed and that Cannabidiol (CBD) should not be included in the lists of prohibited substances.

Spectral studies and pharmacological relevance of isolated from aristata roots.

: Berberis aristata DC., commonly known as Indian barberry or Daruharidra, belongs t to the Berberidaceae family. The plant root is well-known Ayurvedic medicine for diabetes, eye problems, skin disorders, and urinary tract diseases. The plant contains a variety of alkaloids including berberine, oxyberberine, berbamine, aromoline, karachine, palmatine, oxycanthine and taxilamine. The plant is reported to have hypoglycemic, antimicrobial, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, anticancer and antiplatelet activities in different experimental models. In the present study, berberine was isolated in the form of its chloride salt from the roots of B. aristata. The molecule was characterised by a detailed spectral analysis including two-dimensional NMR studies. The molecule was also reviewed for its pharmacological relevance together with the possible mode of action.

- An ideal drug delivery for nose-to-brain targeting.

Abstract : Nanoemulsions are well-liked drug delivery system in the pharmaceutical world. The ese are clear, thermodynamically stable and isotropic liquid-in-liquid dispersion with an average size range of 20 to 200 nm. They are having elevated surface area, strong stability, optically clear appearance, acceptable rheology and good drug loading capacity because of their characteristic droplet size. The methods used for the preparation of nanoemulsions include bubble bursting method, micro-fluidization, phase inversion temperature, emulsion inversion point, ultrasonication and spontaneous emulsification high-pressure homogenization etc. In the present paper, the advantages, methods of preparation and applications of nanoemulsions are critically reviewed.

Formulation and evaluation of -loaded bio-flexi film for brain specificity via oro-trans soft palatal route.

: The purpose of the present study was to formulate and evaluate venlafaxine loaded bio-flexi film for effective treatment of depression. For the preparation of bio-flexi film biomaterial was isolated from fruits of Luffa acutangula (L.) Roxb. (Cucurbitaceae) by an economic method. The biomaterial recovered from the concentrate was subjected for various physicochemical properties like color, solubility, color changing point and chemical test. Bio-flexi films were prepared by modified solvent evaporation method in different batches with variable drug/biomaterial ratio. Prepared batches were subjected for various evaluation studies like thickness, folding endurance, in vitro and in vivo drug release. Bio-flexi films were capable of releasing the drug in a slow sustained manner. From the present investigation, it may be concluded that biomaterial isolated from fruits of L. acutangula used in the preparation of bio-flexi film exhibit promising inbuilt mucoadhesivity for delivering venlafaxine at a controlled rate. So it can serve as a powerful natural mucoadhesant. It may significantly improve the ability to cross blood-brain barrier and serve as an effective tool to treat Depression disease.

– A comprehensive review of their synthesis and diverse biological importance.

: Triazine is a heterocyclic aromatic ring structure, with three isomers distinguish hed by positions of their nitrogen atoms. 1,2,3-triazine derivatives like tubercidin, toyocamycin, sangivamycin, 2-azaadenosine and 2-aza-2-desamino-5,8-dideazafolic acid are the important active moieties in pharmaceutical field while 6-azacytosine, 6-azauracil, azaribine, tirapazamine, dihydromethyl furalazine, vardenafil, apazone, lamotrigine, ceftriaxone, pymetrozine, fervenulin (planomycin), reumycin and toxoflavin (panthothricin) are 1,2,4-triazine moieties used in clinical practices. The triazine ring structure is also found in naturally occurring antibiotics like fervenulin, reumycin and toxoflavin. 1,3,5-Triazine isomer or s-triazine is an oldest known organic compound, broadly used as a lead structure in ammeline, aceto-guanide, acetoguanamine, cyanuric acid and melamine. Some s-triazine containing drugs are hexamethylmelamine (altretamine), 2-amino-4-morpholino-s-triazine, hydroxymethyl-pentamethyl melamine, triethylenemelamine (tretamine), dioxadet, irsogladine, cycloguanil, almitrine, S9788 and DW1865. Triazines have a high significance in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry with wide-spectrum of pharmacological activities so useful for design and formation of novel drugs. Some triazine analogues are recently screened in clinical trials which may lead to potent type drugs with no side effects as presently available pharmacological agents. This review outlines the biological importance and synthesis of various types of triazine derivatives from various heterocyclic and drugs containing triazine moiety.

: The current research work aimed to formulate and evaluate the aripiprazole bionano ogel using Cinnamomum verum J.Presl Syn. C. zeylanicum (Lauraceae) as bio-retardant and bio-stabilizer for transcranial delivery. Aripiprazole, a partial dopamine agonist is an antipsychotic drug used in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and irritability associated with autism. The biopolymer from C. verum was isolated by addition of an optimised quantity of acetone and used as bio-retardant and bio-stabilizer to prepare aripiprazole-loaded bionanogels. The initially aripiprazole nanoparticles were prepared by addition of dextrose and dextran as a nanosized agent and various proportion of bio-polymer C. verum as bio-retardant (0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8% and 1%) and guargum (1.5% and 2%) followed by optimised cycles of sonication. The nanoparticles were incorporated uniformly into the gel under magnetic stirrer mode which was prepared by sodium alginate (100 mg), PVA (100 mg) and HPMC (100 mg) and prepared bionanogel was found as the best formulation based on comparison of mentioned parameters i.e. pH, texture, spreadability, % entrapment efficacy, preliminary determination of nano size distribution and in-vitro drug release study. FC3 (1:0.8) containing a retardant showed uniform spreadability, smooth texture and T50% of 51 h and T80% of 72 h, respectively. These formulations can be used for transcranial drug delivery to target the molecule to the brain through the layers of skin, meninges, trigeminal nerves, emissary veins, cranial bones and sutures.

: Cancer is the second largest disease throughout the world with an increasing mortality over the past few years. This is mainly because of highly heterogeneous in nature and a few effective therapeutic strategies for the treatment. This also represents challenges amongst healthcare professionals and governments. Although a significant advance has been made in cancer treatment, the morbidity and mortality are still enormous. The possibility of detecting cancer at early stages, before it spreads to distant tissues, has been a matter of great interest amongst physicians and scientists because early diagnosis is a key factor for the successful treatment of cancer. To achieve this, we still need of a potential biomarker with significant diagnostic accuracy for cancer.
