Haryana's Yuvraj Singh has played some lovely shots against Odisha at the DRIEMS Cricket Ground in Cuttack. Odisha got an early breakthrough in the form of Ankit Kumar when pacer Suryakanta Pradhan dismissing him caught by veteran wicket-keeper Sujit Lenka. Yuvraj has ensured the swing of Tarini Sa and Prayas Singh are negated well, with minimal feet movement, but he has found Pradhan a little difficult to negotiate.

Odisha have been bulldozed in the last two games, so, expecting anything better would be like living in a fool's paradise.

Hamilton Masakadza's blazing bat, with able support from fellow Zimbabwean Solomon Mire (28) and New Zealander Ross Taylor (29), helped the India Capitals inflict a seven-wicket defeat on the Manipal Tigers in the 10th game of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) on Thursday.

Masakadza's explosive knock of 68 not out off 39 balls (seven fours and four sixes) was crucial as the Capitals chased down a 162-run target with 16 balls to spare. That innings from the 39-year-old overshadowed the effort of Jesse Ryder and Mohammad Kaif from the rival team earlier in the match.

Ryder and Kaif played like they never went away from competitive cricket as they shared a 126-run partnership to help the Tigers post 161/5. While the left-handed Ryder made 76 off 56 balls with five fours and an equal number of sixes, Kaif's contribution of 67 off 48 balls was no less important. Kaif hit nine boundaries and a six.

The win at the Barabati Stadium took Gautam Gambhir's India Capitals to the sole top position in the League standings with 7 points, while Harbhajan Singh's Tigers kept languishing at the bottom of the table with just 3 points.

It was Gambhir who won the toss and elected to bowl first. Ryder opened the Tigers' innings along with Tatenda Taibu. The New Zealander looked comfortable during his stay at the crease, but the same could not be said about the former Zimbabwe captain.

Former Australia speedster Mitchell Johnson ended Taibu's stay at the crease in the first ball of the fifth over. That was when Kaif joined Ryder in the middle.

The next 13-odd overs saw the Capitals try their best, but the pair of Ryder and Kaif remained unconquered.

The Tigers did not get too many runs in the Powerplay Overs — 46/1 — and thereafter Ryder and Kaif concentrated on building their confidence at the crease. They did not get too many big shots, but perhaps that was their ploy — to preserve their wickets before launching the offensive in the last few overs.

Till the 15th over, it seemed as if the Capitals bowlers had done a fine job by keeping a tight leash on the Tigers, who could make only 117/1after 15 overs of play.

But Ryder and Kaif upped the scoring rate a bit in the last five overs, before both of them were dismissed in the 19th over bowled by Englishman Liam Plunkett.

However, the Tigers failed to make use of the final over of their innings, scoring just 4 runs and losing two wickets to medium pacer Rajat Bhatia.

From Cuttack. the action now moves to the Barkatullah Stadium in Jodhpur, where the Gujarat Giants will take on the Bhilwara Kings on Friday.

Gujarat Giants had stalwarts Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle in their batting arsenal, yet Bhilwara Kings outshone them with a royal batting display in the 9th game of Legends League Cricket (LLC) at the Barabati Stadium on Tuesday.

A collective effort with the bat saw the Kings tear apart the Giants' bowling attack to post 222/4. Then their bowlers backed up the batters' effort by keeping a tight leash on the Giants' powerful batting line-up. The Giants were all out for 165 to give the Kings a 57-run victory.

With this win, the Kings, who lost narrowly to Manipal Tigers on Monday, now have five points, the same as the Giants and India Capitals.

The tough chase never took off for the Giants as they kept losing key wickets. The in-form Kevin O'Brien was out in the second over, which saw captain Sehwag join 'Universe Boss' Gayle at the crease. Playing his first game of the League, Gayle could not really unleash his monstrous hits and was out for 15.

Sehwag started to find his form and hit three fours and a six but was out for 27 off 20 balls. Thereafter, none of the Giants' batters managed to get a foothold in the middle. Yashpal Singh, coming in at No.9, finished with a flourish, making 57 of 29 balls, but that was not enough for his team.

Former India speedster S. Sreesanth turned the clock back, picking up 3/36, while off-break bowler Jesal Karia (2/22) and Caribbean pacer Fidel Edwards (2/30) too were successful with the ball.

Earlier, Giants' skipper Sehwag won the toss and opted to field, but thereafter almost nothing went in his team's favour as fours and sixes rained from the Kings' bats.

Kings' openers William Porterfield and Morne van Wyk went on the offensive from the word go as they plundered a mind-blowing 76 without loss from the six Powerplay overs. Nothing seemed to work for the Giants bowlers as the Kings raced to 100 in the ninth over.

Irishman Porterfield was the first to get out, but only after he had played a whirlwind knock of 64 off 33 balls with 10 boundaries and two sixes. South African Van Wyk (50 off 28 balls) was out soon after. Then, Kings captain Irfan Pathan, who promoted himself up the order, clobbered three sixes and a four to make a 23-ball 34.

Following Irfan's dismissal, brother Yusuf Pathan took over, smashing the first two balls he faced for two huge maximums. Karia too played an important knock of 43 off 29 balls. The Kings took 24 runs from the last over of their innings.

The eighth match of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) on Monday saw a nail-biting finish as Harbhajan Singh's Manipal Tigers edged out Irfan Pathan's Bhilwara Kings by just 3 runs to register their first win of the League.

After a superlative opening partnership between Tatenda Taibu and Jesse Ryder helped the Tigers post 175/8 in 20 overs, the Kings, powered by brothers Irfan and Yusuf Pathan, almost pulled off a thrilling chase at the Barabati Stadium.

The Kings needed 9 runs from the last over to win, but former Sri Lanka speedster Dilhara Fernando conceded only 5, besides also taking two wickets. Fernando finished with 4/31 from his four overs as the Kings ended on 172/9.

The Kings did not get the blistering start that the Tigers had. While Taibu and Ryder had plundered 63 without loss in their Powerplay overs, the Kings managed only 43/1.

The pair of Tanmay Srivastava (26) and Yusuf brought out a few big hits in the middle overs, but the former got out in the 15th over. That saw Irfan join brother Yusuf at the crease.

The Pathan brothers shared a 41-run stand in quick time before Irfan was out on the penultimate ball of the 18th over. But Yusuf carried on. But after he was out off the last ball of the 19th over for a 42 off 21 balls, the Kings' chase lost steam.

Earlier, the decision to put the Tigers in to bat first backfired on Kings' captain Irfan as the rival openers swung into action with big hits from the very beginning. A copybook six over Irfan's head from Taibu showed that his skills with the bat remain as it were during his playing days.

Former Zimbabwe captain Taibu was more fluent, scoring 54 off 30 balls with five fours and four sixes. New Zealander Ryder too was at his aggressive best as he slammed 47 off 35 balls, with six boundaries and two sixes.

The opening pair shared a 109-run partnership before Irfan was bailed out by Yusuf. Bowling his part-time spin, Yusuf (2/25) removed both Ryder and Taibu in the 11th over of the innings.

The dual strike pushed the Tigers on the backfoot somewhat and their run rate dropped. Corey Anderson (24) and Mohammad Kaif (32) tried their best to force the pace of the innings, but did not quite succeed.

The Tigers' hopes of having a couple of big overs at the death were hit hard when Caribbean speedster Best (3/20) scalped three wickets in the 19th over.

However, in the end, it was proved that the Tigers had indeed scored enough to claim victory.

After losing their last match against India Capitals, Gujarat Giants will be looking to make amends and a strong comeback in the Legends League Cricket (LLC) when they take on Bhilwara Kings at the Barabati Stadium on Tuesday.

Gujarat Giants will be hugely relying on Tillakaratne Dilshan to do the job for them. In his heydays, Dilshan was known for his aggressive batting style, technique and timing. All that mastery was on show on Sunday when he hit an unbeaten 75 off 59 balls against India Capitals.

The former Sri Lanka stalwart, who captained the Giants in place of Virender Sehwag, treated and thrilled the fans with beautiful shots all around the park, giving the bowlers no respite. Eventually, though, his terrific knock went in vain.

Dilshan, though, will hope to continue in the same form on Tuesday. But it won’t be easy.

Bhilwara Kings have several match-winners like Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan and S Sreesanth who will also be eager to win and climb to the top of the standings. Former India all-rounder Yusuf, especially, has been in brilliant form with both bat and ball.

Bhilwara Kings will also rely on former West Indies pacer Fidel Edwards. The 40-year-old speedster has been troubling batters by bowling fast and quick and will be looking to scalp Dilshan’s wicket early in the innings.

However, Gujarat Giants will hope that big-hitters like Kevin O’Brien, Lendl Simmons and Thisara Perera also come to the party. Giants, who have been banking on their star spinner duo Graeme Swann and Ajantha Mendis, will also look at bowlers like Mitchell McClenaghan and Joginder Sharma to provide them with early breakthroughs.

The stage is all set for the Cuttack leg of the ongoing Legends League Cricket (LLC) to get underway on Monday when the Irfan Pathan-captained Bhilwara Kings take on Harbhajan Singh-led Manipal Tigers in a crucial contest at the Barabati Stadium.

With Cuttack set to host the final, the teams will be excited to get a feel of the venue. It will also be a good opportunity for the crowd in Cuttack to see their favourite superstars in action.

The match will be important for both sides after their respective games in New Delhi were washed out. It will also be a chance for Manipal Tigers to exact revenge on their opponents after they lost their first leg encounter narrowly.

Manipal Tigers though are presently languishing at the bottom of the table. Their coach John Buchanan said that the team is well prepared to give their best. “It was unfortunate that a couple of matches were washed out in Delhi. We are now all set to give our best in the games in Cuttack,” Buchanan said on match-eve.

The match will feature legends like Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan and S Sreesanth of Bhilwara Kings and champion players such as Harbhajan Singh, Mohammad Kaif and Muttiah Muralitharan of Manipal Tigers.

Bhilwara Kings coach Lalchand Rajput said that he is looking forward to the tie. “Hopefully, the rain will not affect matches in Cuttack. We are looking forward to a good contest,” Rajput said after arriving in Cuttack on Sunday.
