The Andhra Pradesh police and the Special Enforcement Bureau laid over 62,000 illicit liquor bottles on a road, and got them razed to pulp on Saturday. These bottles were seized in the last two years in connection with over 822 cases registered in the state. After destroying the liquor bottles, the police issued a certificate for each case. This will be used as documentary evidence in the court trial to follow. Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanthi Rana said, "As per the AP Excise Act 1968, subsequently amended in 2020, liquor brought from other states without paying duty fees and also duty-paid liquor, more than three bottles is not allowed."

In West Bengal's Durgapur people are getting intoxicated from drinking condom-washed waters.

Consumers are soaking different flavoured condoms

in water for an hour and then drinking that water.

Few consumers are college students

A chemistry teacher from Durgapur said, "condoms are nothing but elastomers, it is natural rubber. It is like synthetic rubber-like material which is polymer. If you keep this in hot water for an hour, it may undergo hydrolysis. After hydrolysis, the alcoholic compound will be formed, and that alcoholic compound can work as alcohol."

Students living in rental places are prohibited to drink alcohol at home. So they have come up with this alternative which is relatively cheaper than alcohol.

Condoms are also sold without prescription. This has increased the sales of condoms in Durgapur.

The teacher added, that they may be poisonous, they may cause cancer and that is why they should be avoided. People do not know the side effects, but one may suffer from them in the future.

Tapan Kumar Deka of Assam, an IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the new Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Deka will take over from Arvind Kumar, who will retire on June 30 next.

Deka's tenure as Director will be of two years from the date of assuming charge.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated Deka and said: "Your illustrious career will continue to inspire youth of Assam."

Sir M Visvesvaraya Railway Terminal is the India's first centrally
AC station.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Sir M Visvesvaraya Railway Terminal, which boasts airport-like facilities, in Bengaluru.

The terminal has been named after Bharat Ratna recipient Sir M Visvesvaraya and modelled after the Kempegowda airport.

The terminal can cater to 50,000 people daily;

The station has seven platforms, three pit lines, and eight stabling lines to operate 50 trains a day. There are six ticket counters, one dedicated to persons with disabilities;

- The station has spacious parking that can also accommodate 50 autorickshaws and 20 cabs and a specialised zone for buses;

- The terminal has a VIP lounge, a waiting hall, and a digital real-time passenger information system. It also boasts a food court and has lifts, ramps, and stairways that connect to the subway, and a foot overbridge;

- Many posters with QR codes have been put up across the station to access sign language videos explaining its infrastructure. It also has multiple charging points at every level.

Baba Ramdev says, 'Yoga is spiritual, not religious'.Guru Baba Ramdev performed yoga at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar.

Ramdev began Yoga at 5 am where more than 10,000 of his followers performed various Yoga asanas till 8 am. They were briefed about various health benefits and cures of various illnesses by performing particular Yoga asanas. The event was streamed live on various platforms for Yoga followers across the globe. "The nation is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and we should aim to keep our body free of any illness. And for this one should do four-five Yoga asanas every day," Ramdev said. He added that Yoga is for everyone and urged people not to associate it with any religion or political party.

Flood, landslides claim 71 lives so far in Assam, 33 districts affected.

The state of Assam has been facing floods and landslides for eight days starting from June 13.

As per CWC (Central Water Commission) bulletin, rivers namely Kopili (at Kampur, Nagaon) is flowing above High Flood Level; the Brahmaputra (at Neamatighat, Jorhat, at Tezpur, Sonitpur, at Guwahati, Kamrup, at Goalpara, Goalpara, at Dhubri, Dhubri, Subansiri (Badatighat, Lakhimpur); Kopili (at Dharamtul, Nagaon; Puthimati (at NH Road Crossing, Kamrup); Pagladia (at NT Road Crossing, Nalbari); Manas (at NH Road Crossing, Barpeta); Beki ( at Road Bridge, Barpeta) is flowing above the danger level. Barak (at BP Ghat, Karimganj, at AP Ghat, Cachar, at Matizuri, Hailakanndi) and Kushiyara (at Karimganj) are flowing above the danger level.

Violent protests over the Union Government's 'Agnipath scheme' for recruitment in armed forces has now spread in several states across India, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Telagana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal.

The protests entered the third day in Bihar on Friday (June 17) with agitators disrupting rail and road traffic and setting the Bhagalpur-New Delhi Vikramshila Express and Jammu Tawi-Guwahati Express trains on fire. The house of Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Renu Devi was also attacked by the protestors.

Several organisations have given a 72-hour ultimatum to the Central Government to withdraw the Agnipath scheme or else they will intensify the agitation and call for Bharat Bandh.

In Telangana, one person died and over 15 persons were reportedly injured after railway police open-fired at Agnipath protesters at Secunderabad Railway Station on Friday.

Reportedly, before firing at the protesters, the railway police had not only used lathi-charge to disperse the mob but also warned them of opening fire.

After a gap of two years, the annual Ambubachi Mela will be held from June 22-26, 2022 at Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati.

The main door of Kamakhya temple will be closed at 8:15 pm on June 22 for the pilgrims and will reopen on June 26.

On Thursday (June 16), Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah had a discussion with the concerned officials of all department.

The minister also took stock of the temporary camps being set up for the pilgrims and said the following:

1. This year, inauguration ceremony or cultural programmes will not be held as precaution against
COVID-19.

2. Temporary camps are being set up for accommodation of more than 30,000 pilgrims at Old Jail campus, Kamakhya Station, Boripara field and Old Maligaon Station.

3. Pilgrims will have to reach the Shaktipeeth on foot.

4. Special ferry buses will be arranged for divyangjans, senior citizens and pilgrims with special needs.

5. This year, no special preference will be given to VIPs.

6. No private vehicles will be allowed to climb the hill. except for essential services.

7. Special car passes will not be provided this year.

8. There will be special arrangements for cleanliness, sanitisation, lighting and religious music throughout the Kamakhya hills.

Assam Reports 21 New COVID-19 Cases, 11 From Kamrup Metro

has reported 21 new cases in the last 24 hours. This was updated in the daily bulletin released by the National Health Mission, Assam on June 15.

Of the 21 cases, 11 were reported from Kamrup Metro, 7 from Kamrup Rural, 2 from Bongaigaon and 1 from Nagaon.

Currently, 54 cases are active in the State.

Cherrapunji in Meghalaya recorded a high scale of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

The region witnessed a massive scale of 811.6 mm rainfall, which is the highest since 1995.

The Indian Meteorological Department stated that the region witnessed such a high scale since 16th June 1995.

The East Khasi hills gauged 1563.3 mm of rainfall on 16th June 1995.

Over 1,000 Monkeypox Cases Reported From 29 Countries.

Over 1,000 cases have been reported from 29 countries in the world where the disease is not endemic. However, no deaths have been reported in these countries so far.

The World Health Organization has urged the affected countries to identify all cases and contacts to control the outbreak and prevent onward spread. This was stated by WHO Chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Wednesday.

India has set up its first Liquid Mirror Telescope (LMT) in Uttarakhand to observe supernovae, space debris, asteroids and other celestial objects, the Government said on June 2. It is the country's first and Asia's largest liquid-mirror telescope.

The telescope consists of a 4-metre-diameter rotating mirror made up of a thin film of liquid mercury to collect and focus light. It is located at an altitude of 2450 metres at the Devasthal Observatory campus of Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), in Nainital as reported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday (June 2) said that Rohit Shetty has donated Rs 51 lakh to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to help in flood relief activities.

The Government of Assam, placed Barbie Hazarika, an ACS Assistant Commissioner of Kamrup Metro under suspension after the state government received complaints from the Act East Policy Affairs Department and the ASEAN and Singapore delegations.

The complaint was lodged in regard to her 'rude and inappropriate behaviour.'

As per reports from the state government, "report has been received from the Act East Policy Affairs Department that the Singapore delegation has raised a serious complaint regarding her rude and her inappropriate behaviour and the ASEAN delegation has also expressed their displeasure over her behaviour which has brought which has brought bad name to the state and country as well.."

Popular Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, who had joined the Congress before the Punjab elections, has been shot dead today.

Moose Wala had contested the Assembly polls on a Congress ticket from Mansa. He was defeated by AAP’s Dr Vijay Singla with a margin of 63,323 votes. Hailing from Moosa, a village in Mansa district, Moose Wala had joined the Congress amid much fanfare in November last year. With Congress granting him ticket from Mansa Assembly constituency, then sitting Mansa MLA, Nazar Singh Manshahia, had revolted against the party saying that he would oppose the candidature of the controversial singer.
