Before we begin... In the Entertainment Business, India and the world has a lot in common as well as differences. In India, the music that is popular and rich is the music that is used by the Film Industry, namely 'Bollywood'. However, the non‐Bollywood music or the independent music industry is not that popular or appreciated enough among the huge population of this country.
On the other hand, when you look at any international entertainment industries such as 'Hollywood', the case is simply the opposite. There, the independent music industry is, in fact, the Music Industry and quite fairly, that is how it is supposed to be. This is a major point where India differs from the world. However, India is looked upon by the world as a 'sleeping giant' of the entertainment business(especially Music) but in India, which is known to have the largest consumer market in the world, the business status of the Indie Music industry is quite discouraging not only for the professional artists but also for the new aspiring artists.
Problems based on Live Music Ban, copyrights, music licensing, royalties, late payments, mediocrity, etc are the daily issues in the industry today. Apart from those, false examples are set, artists generally have to pay a huge amount of money to the so-called 'Music Labels' of this country in order to get their products promoted and distributed, which on the other hand has a very less guarantee of being effective as the labels have the least interest in getting the products sold once they get the money from the artists.
Also, the opportunities to perform in the biggest concerts or to tour abroad or live the 'artist's dream' are generally given to the artists linked with the film industries, whereas the Non‐Film industry artists hardly get a chance to live their lives in a glamorous way as they have to focus more on their survival. In order to survive, artists generally make ways to work in certain film projects but that, in the long run, keeps them away from what they really want to do in life using their originality. They lose time, lose focus, they lose their originality and they lose their art and get discouraged in the process as there is hardly anyone who might invest in their art or guide them in the best ways possible.
