The Zionist shekel, or simply shekel, was the currency of the Zionist Organization, which was introduced by David Wolffsohn in preparation for the Second Zionist Congress in 1898. The currency was symbolic and was converted into the value of the local currency upon each transaction. The name's origin is from the ancient Jewish currency - the "shekel."

The Zionist shekel was used from the inception of the institutionalized Zionist movement under the leadership of Theodor Herzl until the establishment of the state to denote the annual membership fee. A "shekel holder" was someone who bought the Zionist shekel and, provided they were over 18 years old, purchased the right to elect delegates to the Zionist Congress for a year. Those over 24 years old also had the right to run independently. The number of delegates each country could send to the Congress was determined by the number of shekels sold in that country. Naturally, in years when elections to the Zionist Congress were not held, shekel sales declined. Although the shekel was a symbolic currency, each shekel was issued with a bill as proof of tax payment, featuring images expressing the essence of the Zionist idea, sometimes even a copy of the ancient Israelite-Jewish coin, the shekel.

The Zionist shekel expressed the free will of every Jew to participate in determining the fate of the people of Israel, unlike the custom of the Jewish community in the diaspora, where most decisions were made by community leaders: scholars, civil servants, or the seven good people of the city. The percentage of shekel buyers could gauge the position of the Zionist movement among the diaspora. Revenues from the sale of Zionist shekels amounted to significant sums, which allowed the Zionist Organization to continue functioning and finance its administrative expenses.

PESACH SAMEACH!!

Tefillin, also known as phylactery, is an important ritual item for performing daily and holiday prayers in Judaism. It is called a repository for the reason that it contains a small piece of parchment on which the four commandments of the Most High are written (Deut. 6:6-8; 11:18-19; Exod. 13:8-9; 14-16). All four are taken from the Torah. They talk about how the Lord delivered His people from slavery in Egypt: “And let this be for you to sign on your hand and for a memorial before your eyes, that the law of the Lord may be in your mouth, for with a mighty hand the Lord brought you out of Egypt.”

The Almighty commanded His people to pass on this knowledge from generation to generation and teach their children this way.

Four hundred years passed before the Lord’s promise to our father Abraham was fulfilled that from him would come a nation in which all the families of the earth would be blessed.

For Israel, the holiday of Passover is a celebration of the birth of the people and faith, the Passover sacrifice, the blood of the lamb on the doorposts, the crossing of the sea and the conclusion of the covenant with the Lord at Mount Sinai. This is a type of the conversion and new birth of every believer when he makes a profession of faith and is washed (baptized) in water.

Let us therefore purify the old leaven, that we may be a new lump, since we are unleavened, for our Passover, the Messiah, was sacrificed for us. (1 Cor. 5:7)
His blood is on our doorposts and with His sacrifice we go on our journey.

🌟 Introducing my latest print, "AFIKOMAN," just in time for the holiday of PASSOVER! 🌟

Traditionally at the Pesach Seder, we break the middle of the three matzot. Simultaneously, we eat one part and hide ("bury") the second, wrapping it in cloth. Then comes the fun part— the children embark on a search throughout the house to find it! 🕵️‍♂️ Once discovered, there's jubilation all around, gifts for the little ones, and we all come together to enjoy this piece of matzo. 🥖💫

Let's celebrate the joyous traditions of Passover with "AFIKOMAN"! 🎉🌾

In connection with the holiday of Purim, people are interested in how Purim is now revealed in the situation in Gaza!

If we are talking about the events described in the book of Esther, then, as you remember, the king issued two orders: 1st (at the suggestion of Haman) to exterminate all the Jews of the empire and a day was set for this action. 2nd letter - permission for Jews to defend themselves, i.e. resist the pogrom.

The situation in Gaza today can be seen as parallel to what it was 2.5 thousand years ago. Our neighbors seek to destroy us (this is written in the Hamas and PLO charter), Iran has repeatedly declared its intention to destroy Israel and cleanse the land from the river to the sea of Jews. Israel is defending itself. This is a normal reaction of a healthy body to resist the ra**st.

**Food for thought: the Arabs committed the first pogrom in Palestine in Hebron in 1929. (under the British Mandate). Then they massacred the entire Jewish community. Only a few were saved. And the British forced them to leave Hebron (in Hebron, the land where our forefathers were buried was bought from the local prince by Abraham).
The State of Israel was restored according to a UN decision in 1948. Since then we have been at war with the Arabs. The Arabs, just like the Ukrainians, make a human shield out of their civilian population and fire at Israel from hospitals, schools, kindergartens and mosques specifically so that return fire will kill as many civilians as possible and, preferably, more children, this works very well in propaganda .

There's nothing new under the sun.

Clara Zetkin and Rosa Luxenburg once decided that the joyful holiday of Purim deserved, for the sake of the heroic calling of Queen Esther, to organize a holiday for all women who accept the calling from the Almighty. Happy March 8th to you!

🎨🖌️ As the creator of this unique and meaningful print, I'm thrilled to share the inspiration and thought behind it. 🎭✨

For me, Table Runner isn't just a canvas—it's a medium through which I can convey a story, evoke emotions, and spark contemplation. 💬 When crafting the design for our Purim-themed Table Runner, I wanted to capture the essence of the holiday in a way that was both whimsical and thought-provoking. 🎉📜

Drawing inspiration from the characters in the Book of Esther, I embraced the tradition of Purimspiel, infusing the design with a touch of grotesque humor typical of the holiday's spirit. 🤣🎭 Each character is depicted with playful exaggeration, inviting viewers to look closely, decipher the symbolism, and engage with the narrative. 🖌️🔍

But beyond the surface level, I aimed to imbue the design with deeper meaning. 💡 As a celebration of divine salvation and triumph over adversity, Purim holds profound significance in Jewish tradition. 🌟 Through the Table Runner, I wanted to convey this message of joy, resilience, and communal celebration, making it an integral part of the festive experience. 🍽️🎉

So, as you gather around your holiday table adorned with our Purim Spiel Table Runner, know that it's more than just decor—it's a piece of art infused with tradition, symbolism, and the spirit of Purim. 🎨🕊️ May it inspire moments of laughter, reflection, and connection with your loved ones as you celebrate this joyous occasion. 🥳🎈 Chag Purim Sameach! 🎭✨

📜🌟 Unveiling the Story of Purim: A Tapestry of Triumph and Tradition 🎭🕎

As the radiant glow of Purim begins to envelop us, it's only fitting to delve into the heart of this celebration—the timeless narrative encapsulated in the Book of Esther, known as the Megillah. This sacred text serves as the foundation of Purim, weaving a tale of intrigue, courage, and the ultimate triumph of good over evil.

The Megillah: Esther's Timeless Tale: Purim finds its roots in the Book of Esther, a gripping narrative that unfolds in the ancient Persian Empire. The Megillah recounts the story of Queen Esther, a Jewish woman who, through courage and cleverness, thwarts the sinister plans of Haman, the royal vizier, to annihilate the Jewish people. Esther's bravery and the miraculous turn of events form the backbone of Purim's celebration.

A Conflict of Morality and Destiny: At the heart of the Megillah lies a conflict that transcends time—a battle between morality and destiny. Esther, a seemingly ordinary woman, is thrust into a position of great influence and responsibility. The conflict revolves around her choice to reveal her identity as a Jew, risking everything to save her people. It's a story of moral conviction, resilience, and the belief that even the smallest individual can shape destiny.

Key Characters: Esther, Mordecai, and Haman: Esther, the eponymous heroine, embodies strength, grace, and unwavering faith. Mordecai, her cousin and guardian, plays a pivotal role in uncovering Haman's treacherous plot. Haman, the antagonist driven by hatred and ambition, represents the forces that threaten the survival of the Jewish people.

Celebrating the Miraculous Turn of Events: Purim is not merely a historical commemoration; it's a celebration of the miraculous turn of events detailed in the Megillah. The festive customs, from wearing costumes to the joyous Purim feast, mirror the jubilation felt by the Jewish community when the plot against them was foiled.

Tradition Continues: The Megillah's enduring message resonates through generations, reminding us of the importance of courage, faith, and the triumph of justice. As we celebrate Purim, we reenact the events of the Megillah, ensuring that the story remains alive in our hearts and minds.

This Purim, let us not only revel in the festive atmosphere but also reflect on the profound narrative that gives this celebration its depth and significance. 📖🎉
