Bringing back my festive tradition! Christmas Sambo Sunday! I’m starting with a Christmas Sambo Pizza as it turns out, .pizza made with turkey meatballs, stuffing, Brie, cranberry, and pine needle aioli. I cannot emphasize enough that this pizza is worth the drive to Kildare! The dough is perfectly baked and the flavors are just so festively perfect. I cannot think of a better way to start December!
Trying out the ice creams available in the supermarket. They seem to be doing a lot of marketing because I could swear this wasn’t new but I’m hearing all about it. Anyway, the Oreos get soft in the ice cream, but that actually really helps in this case. It adds some texture that enhances the overall feel with some softness to go with the ice.

Gold from .co in theee parts. 1️⃣ Bam Bam Baklava ice cream sambo, 2️⃣ Thai Thai Real Smooth and 3️⃣ Breakfast in Paris. My wife and I split all of the sambos. All great in their own way. The baklava was gorgeous with just the right amount of honey and pistachio. The Thai - which was made with tea flavored ice cream along with lemon ripple - reminded me of Arnold Palmers (a mixture of American lemonade and ice tea). However the most fun was the Breakfast in Paris - with espresso ice cream in between a pressed croissant. All spectacular.
My legend of a nephew modeling the soft serve ice cream aboard the ! The machines were broken on my last in January so I didn’t skip my chance. I think I’ve gotten too used to Irish ice cream at this point! The American kind is so much sweeter than back in Ireland. Irish soft serve is very dairy focused with a lot of cream and fat. This is much more vanilla and sugar focused. Both have their place, but I feel like the Irish 99 has it for me.
When sailing to Alaska, you get the Baked Alaska. Layers of gelato with a topping of toasted Meringue, it’s a lovely combination of flavors.
Dark chocolate mousse from - nice texture and paired nicely with the berries. Not a bad way to cap off a Sunday roast.
Orange zest and buttermilk frosting cinnamon bun from . The frosting and flavor was spectacular and it was a bun where the each layer was equally tasty (not just that inner most ring). The pastry itself was a little on the dryer side, but generally not a dealbreaker. A lovely way to start a sunny morning!

A wonderful birthday weekend comes to an end!! Thanks for all the well wishes and especially thanks to my wonderful wife who (along with making my life wonderful every day) made this cookie cake with a peanut butter frosting 🧁!
Vegan raspberry swirl bar from left me pretty happy. The texture was smooth as I’d expect from the supermarket - vegan or dairy. The flavor was fairly good with the raspberry naturally being the most dominant. I’m not sure if this was because of the dairy free nature, but I found the chocolate shell to break off easier than most Magnum bars. It’s a small thing since most bars do crumble; this just seemed to be a bit messier than normal. Overall, it’s a great substitute for a dairy ice cream. 7.5/10
Seeing that is in Tallinn Estonia 🇪🇪 reminded me of one of the best pastries I’ve ever had, the Kringle! It is basically heaven in pastry form - with a cinnamon roll-ish pastry topped with caramel, almonds, and raisins. Extremely gooey and so spectacular. This is a pic from my trip there almost 5 years ago, and I didn’t write down the shop name. Still salivating.
dairy free chocolate and toasted almond ice cream. Like many of Nobo’s ice creams, it’s based with coconut milk, so there’s a natural coconuttiness 🥥 which some folks will love and others might not. Generally it was tasty enough with some cookies on the side but was middle of the road on its own. 7/10
Trying out a double Starchaser bar. Popcorn 🍿 chocolate 🍫 and caramel 🧡 mix together really well. It basically tastes like caramel corn. I’m pretty happy. 8/10
dairy free (but not vegan) ice cream sambo. It’s made with coconut-based ice cream topped with pretty nice brownies. Note they have honey in it. I brought them home finding quite a lot of icy crystals. Still, a nice taste. I’ve had better vegan sambos and better ice creams from Nobo. 7/10
My friend brought some chocolate butterscotch bark from India 🇮🇳! Amazing crunch and just the right balance between the sweet chocolate and salty brittle. Using all of my willpower to not eat the whole bag in one sitting.
Ya cheeky little monkey! A quick find. Good for the price, though it takes a little more thawing than other ice creams in my freezer. It has chocolate and caramel bits. Nice texture. Overall a good to keep around the house. 7/10
Celebrating my wife’s birthday with her favorite kind of cake: a shopping mall quality cookie cake! Thin enough that you don’t have to bake for long, it’s soft and so delicious. Let’s be real though: I have zero skill when it comes to frosting. However these cakes are my calling. Love you Kate!
An at home dessert to be excited about: dark chocolate gelato on top of brownies made with a mix. Warm and cold. Lovely so.
Ferrero Rocher hot chocolate from during a visit this weekend. Loads of hazelnut flavor in this cream hot choc. I had been wanting to visit for a while now. They have such a huge menu of hot chocolate varieties. I might have to try the Mexican hot chocolate later! For now though, we were pleasantly surprised to actually find a hazelnut at the bottom, since they actually put in a whole Ferrero Rocher! A lovely cuppa
When it comes to the discount supermarket brand ice creams, is usually my recommendation. They’re consistently fine flavored with an adequate texture. I’ve given up on ice creams from another certain German chain (rhymes with Pidl) which have certain artificial taste. The Aldi cookie dough is loaded with chunks. 7/10
Mint chocolate chip from at home. Great texture. Fairly strong mint flavors but not overpowering. Generally a nice treat to keep in the freezer. 8/10
Ice cream at sea! We just started a 7 day Caribbean 🛳️ - enjoying a chocolate ice cream sundae with dinner. Loads of toppings help compensate for the ice cream itself, which had a lot of ice crystals. 6/10 There are at least two other ice cream spots on the shop plus the options I find on shore. Can’t wait to explore!
A beer that elicits the feelings of ice cream: ’s Purple Fluff Gelato. The beer from Poland is sweetened with bananas, juneberries, marshmallow, and vanilla in fun and funky sour.
Next level cookie from at the . Soft chocolate chip stuffed to the max and dipped in chocolate. Just enough restiveness. I’m still dreaming of it.
rarely disappoints with their hot chocolates. This gingerbread hot choc is no exception. Just the perfect amount of spicy biscuity flavor. But not overwhelming. My wife got the peppermint one, but she preferred the Gingerbread instead. 8.5/10
Dairy free white chocolate honeycomb ice cream from . There’s a little bit of texture and crunch from the white chocolate and honeycomb bits. Flavor was balanced. Not the most in-your-face of Leamhain’s flavors, but a nice scoop either way 8/10
Rarely am I this disappointed with a ice cream. This one was just so plain. Their Baked Alaska is essentially vanilla ice cream with a few white chocolate bits. Just get a fun B&J if you’re gonna buy one. 5/10
A night out with friends. Pints. The World Cup ⚽️. And of course, delicious chicken and milkshakes. inside is a match made in heaven. We got a five piece meal with a Caramel shake. The shake has tons of flavor and a pretty good consistency. Pairs well with delicius fried foods.
Getting to test out the cookies and cream dairy free Sambo from - it’s one of their best sandwiches. The ice cream has a great texture and flavor. Meanwhile the chocolate biscuits were fluffy and tasty. There was a little saltiness that enhances all of the other flavors.
A great way to start the day: a morning bun from in Kimmage. The new bakery has loads of goodies to try including some amazing cruffins. Will definitely be back!
These were solidly good! White Fig and Strawberry sorbettos, both vegan from in Lisbon. The fig seeds give a nice little extra bit of texture. Thanks to my stunt double Pietro who modeled these delicious scoops! 9/10
I had to check out what the cluck was going on at the Colonel’s. To be honest I hen no idea made milkshakes, but while flying home, I was in the mooood. Creamy with oreo bits when I was peckish. Not to ruffle feathers, it was fine but nothing special. Though, for an airport lunch, I was surprised it didn’t beak the bank. 7/10
A s’mores milkshake from in Monaghan town. They used a Biscoff sauce to give the biscuit flavor combined with marshmallows. It’s not exactly a s’more but it was a tasty shake either way. 9/10
Another supermarket find: Oh My Banoffee Pie. You’ll be shocked to learn that Banoffee is not as common of a flavor in the United States as it is here in Ireland. Caramel, chocolate, and of course banana make this a truly fun treat. 8/10
My buddy Mikkel was not ok with the fact that I got a milkshake from and he didn’t. I tried to explain that I’m an adult, have a job, and can by a milkshake whenever I want, but he disagreed. In the end, we just agreed to disagree. This PB&J Shake is one of the best in Ireland. 11/10
Irish Cream ice cream and a chocolate brownie from as part of a dinner/show with - the ice cream was very nice with a good texture. There was a hint of alcohol though not super boozy. The brownie was a little dry. It improved when mixed with the ice cream. 7.5/10

Ask any American living in Ireland what they miss from home, 9 in 10 will say Mexican food. That’s why I was so thrilled that @elgritomexicantaqueria opened in Rathmines. After probably eating too spicy of peppers and salsa 🥵 I cooled down with deep fried ice cream! It can out piping with an super frozen ice cream ball in the middle which slowly melted into a gooey delicious mess. Ok. This is too cool to not share. @donningtonbrewery in Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds of England makes beers for a lot of pubs, but at the brewery, they have a little honesty box. Take note of what you take and pay with the honor system. Luckily their beers are actually pretty sound, full of flavor. Oh and they have peacocks strutting nearby. #aspiringbeerinfluencer
The future is here! @firfarm is a must visit in the Cotswolds of England 🏴 with their innovative milk and ice cream vending machines between the villages of Lowe Swell and Upper Slaughter! Move over Amazon, at this automated shop, all you have to do is scan a debit or credit card, take your item, and it knows to charge you accordingly. The technology is great but the farm fresh ice cream is even better! One last chance to take a visiting friend for Ice cream! On Ryan’s last day in Ireland, we stopped at @sunbeargelato for a couple scoops. He was happy with the Oreo. Meanwhile I went with the banoffee. Mine was loaded with banana and toffee flavor which softened the gelato a bit. At the supermarket we saw that a few @benandjerrys ice creams were on sale. I hadn’t had Caramel Brownie Party before. Generally the cream has a nice consistency with loads of caramel. I was able to set up a second ice cream visit with my friends from America 🇺🇸 and Singapore 🇸🇬! A late night stop in @scoopparlour is always a good choice. Definitely one of the more reasonable priced shops in town. I got the special Mandarin Orange sorbetto 🍊. #Dairyfree and #glutenfree, this is a good option for many with dietary restrictions. The consistency was a bit softer than ice cream, but that’s understandable given it is sorbetto which can melt a bit quicker. No bother! Had friends from America 🇺🇸 and Singapore 🇸🇬 visiting Dublin this week. The first thing they asked me is if I was going to take them to get ice cream. Of course I obliged, with a visit to @murphysicecream. They may have gone overboard trying all the flavors. The chocolate whisky, Dingle Sea Salt, and Brown Bread ice creams were definitely a hit. Where else should I take them? . A few people messaged me commenting about Murphy’s prices. €6 for some smaller scoops is definitely more expensive than we were used to in Ireland a few years ago, but compared to spots in California and elsewhere in the US, it’s a steal (where a scoop might be more than $10 not including additional tax and tips). I’m empathetic to businesses that had to raise prices given that all of their ingredients and overhead like rent are much more expensive. What a spectacular meal and dessert from the @granodublin pop-up at the #HouseofPeroni event in the Central Plaza. The pasta was out of this world and then we got a little sweet treat at the end: a deconstructed cannoli with the ricotta cheese mixed with dark pastry, chocolate, pistachios, and caramel sauce. The fancier the ice cream, the more people expect it to look pretty from the side. But packaging does not always lead to the best product. @lidlireland is selling a Deluxe Strawberry Cheesecake “flavoured” Crumble “iced dessert”. There’s a layer of a strawberry sorbet followed by a cheesecake layer with the strawberry jam, and then a biscuit bottom. However when one is eating some ice cream alone (no judgement!) they don’t usually scoop from top to bottom like a farmer drilling a well. After some struggle scooping, I did quarry my slice of the concoction. This was better than most Lidl scoops with less ice crystals than usual. An amazing experience in Italy! The family took a dinner cooking class so we got involved in everything from pasta cutting to my favorite: Tiramisu making! This was super easy to put together and a great option for small dinner parties. An egg yolk and big spoonful of sugar per person combined with marscapone cheese whipped and whisked layered over ladies fingers soaked in espresso. Then toppled with cocoa powder. We had to let the custard rest in the refrigerator for an hour but otherwise it was a quick concoction! Gianduja hot chocolate from @lartduchocolat_ie in Maynooth. We walked by while visiting friends before but never went in. The drink was perfectly nutty.
