Delighted to announce Liam ó Maonlaí as our next delegate at Your Roots Are Showing.

Born in Dublin in 1964, Liam first learnt song and his native language from his Galway mother and Cork Father. He embraced the music and culture of the punk movement in the seventies while at the same time he continued to broaden his knowledge and capability in the traditional Irish music world . His great influences come from the Gaeltacht of Connemara and of Corca Dhuibhne in west Kerry . In 1985 his band ‘ Hothouse Flowers' came into being . They toured for the best part of ten years, gleaning inspiration from soul, blues, and roots music .
He continues to work with Hothouse Flowers but also gives a great deal of energy and attention to the rich tapestry of culture around the world .

He has played all over the world and continues to create and compose music with many collaborators. “There is a work that continues to call me . I am still searching “.

Tom Besford runs English Folk Expo (EFEx), which supports the English folk, roots and acoustic music sector. EFEx delivers showcases, live events, artist mentoring, industry training, audience development and more.

Amongst other things, EFEx runs Manchester Folk Festival, hosts online learning platforms and produces the Official Folk Albums Chart Show. Tom is a member of the first European Music Business Task Force, part of the Greater Manchester Music Commission, and is on the Steering Group of Manchester Music City.
