THE IMPORTANCE OF PROTECTING SEA TURTLES.

As I strolled along the beautiful Laboma Beach resort, I was struck by a thought-provoking signpost campaigning against the killing of sea turtles. It got me wondering - why are sea turtles so crucial to our ecosystem?

ECOLOGICAL IMPACT

Sea turtles play a vital role in maintaining the health of our oceans. They:

- Maintain seaweed beds and sea grasses, which support countless marine species
- Transport nutrients from ocean depths to coastal ecosystems, enriching soil and promoting plant growth
- Contribute to beach formation and stability, protecting coastlines from erosion

IMPLICATIONS ON HUMAN LIVES

The loss of sea turtles can have far-reaching consequences for humans:

- Decreased fisheries: Sea turtles prey on jellyfish and other marine animals that can harm fish populations
- Reduced coastal protection: Without turtles, beaches become more vulnerable to erosion and storm damage
- Economic impacts: Sea turtle tourism can generate significant revenue for coastal communities

WHY MUST WE PROTECT THEM?
