African media foundation emerged as a result of working in the media where we found a huge gap in the line of communication between poor and marginalized communities, organizations, individuals and groups and the media. Many of those in marginalized and poor communities are doing great things but are unable to get the necessary media exposure to highlight their issues, culture organizations, bus
inesses and other important events. It is this gap that we at Young African Media Foundation intend to bridge by teaching such groups, communities and individuals how to use the various forms of the media to effectively champion the causes and issues that are important to them. We aim to do this via media training programmes, advocacy work, seminars and workshops, research, through educational and information programs and other means such as working with community radio to make sure that their developed programs to give their communities access to media empowerment. When individuals or groups such as young girls and boys have the opportunity to be heard it spreads information and ideas for those who might not otherwise have access to hear a different perspective or understand another experience. When people are given the opportunity to be heard it helps them to see change is possible not only in themselves but in the world around them. The African Media Foundation is a highly mixed group of experienced and youth media practitioners who believe that all people must be given the opportunity to tell their own story. In addition to our training programmes we do advocacy work, services and workshops research, educational and informational programmes, Drama, community radio, to help organization get their message and information out to the public.
